An Analysis of the Relationship Between Equity and Composite Index in Bursa Malaysia
2020
This paper examines the relationship between sectoral equity and composite index in Bursa Malaysia. The relationship between equity returns and composite index is investigated using correlation-based on Ordinary Least Square (OLS) and signal decomposition techniques based on wavelet analysis. The paper uses daily data from 1999 to 2019. The OLS result indicated that majority of sectoral equity have a higher correlation with the composite index except in tin and mining sector. The wavelet analysis indicates a majority of sectors are strongly co-move. For all indices, there are lead/lag relationships between the indices except for industrial, plantation, tin mining and trade, and services. The findings have important implications for helping individual and institutional investors to understand the co-movement of equity sectors and then formulate policy measures that encourage better portfolio diversification.
Performance of Kuala Lumpur Composite Index Stock Market
MALAYSIAN JOURNAL OF COMPUTING
Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) Bursa Malaysia Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) is made up of over 30 large companies listed on the Bursa Malaysia Main Market. All FTSE Bursa Malaysia data are calculated and disseminated every 15 seconds in real-time. It is believed that the volatility of the stock market has a negative impact on real economic recovery. This paper aims to describe the underlying structure and the phenomenon of the sequence of observations in the series. The information obtained, can determine the performance of time series model to fit the data series from January 2002 until December 2018. Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) and Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) models have been shown to provide the correct trend of volatility. The objectives of this paper are to determine the overall trend of the KLCI stock return and to investigate the performance of Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GA...
Performance of Syariah and Composite Indices: Evidence From Bursa Malaysia
Asian Academy of Management Journal of …, 2008
Islamic stock market index such as KLSI selects stocks according to Islamic laws, and thus has a more stringent screening process than its conventional counterpart, KLCI. Our results, however, provide no evidence of significant statistical differences in riskadjusted returns between Islamic and conventional stock market indices during [1999][2000][2001][2002][2003][2004][2005]. We also employ the causality and Johansen cointegration tests to examine their short-and long-run relationships. Besides a significant short-run presence of bidirectional causality, the long-term equilibrium indicates that both indices move in tandem. This suggests that the movement in KLCI gives a good indication as to where KLSI will move in the short-run and long-run. Therefore, prediction of one based on the other is constructive.

Is Stock Price Indices Interdependence? Evidence from the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange
papers.ssrn.com
This paper discusses some of the issues related to the construction and interpretation of stock price indices most widely used in the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange: the Composite index, the EMAS index, the Second Board index and the Industrial index. Each of the indices represents a benchmark portfolio for a different segment of the stock market. The study also compares the movements of the indices over the period between 1995 through 2000. The results show that the indices are highly integrated in all cases. There is no obvious indication of large size market capitalisation of indices particularly the Composite index leads other indices. The results suggest each index contain similar information content regardless of their size.

The Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange Composite Index ( Klse CI ) and Economic Forces
2016
An economic climate is a major factor in determining the primary trend of a stock market. The stock market, on the other hand, is often regarded as a reliable barometer of a country’s financial market or economy. In this study, a multi-regression model is used to empirically examine the impact of M1, M2, M3 money supply, inflation rate, oil price, interest rate, gold price, industrial gross production index (IP), the Dow Jones Stock Exchange Index and consumer price index (CPI) on the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange Composite Index (KLSE CI). The s study uses monthly time-series data from May 2004 until April 2015. The empirical findings using Linear Regression, Stepwise method, Pearson Correlation Matrices and Scatter Plots indicate that coefficient of inflation, money supply M1, interest rate, oil price changes and the Dow Jones Index are significant, meanwhile, IP, M2, M3, gold price and CPI are insignificant. This study also indicates that IP, inflation rate, and interest have a neg...
This paper presents the dynamics of Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) where the data were observed daily from January 2008 to October 2012. The data are presented in candle forms, as often used in online trading software. Statistical analysis on the average and the variance is applied on every month candle representations. The average and the standard deviation may vary on each candle, meaning that they depend on time. The average that depends on time indicates a trend of the dynamics. On the other hand, the average and the standard deviation yield the so-called probability density function (pdf) which depends on time called temporal-pdf (t-pdf). The trend and the probability of the dynamics of JCI are implicitly represented in the t-pdf. The t-pdf of the dynamics of JCI is the main concern of this paper. Understanding the t-pdf will help investors deal with the dynamics of JCI.
