The 2013 and 2014 announcements by major car manufacturers that they would wind down all their remaining Australian automotive operations by 2016/2017 preempted the March 2014 release of the Productivity Commission's final report into motor vehicle manufacturing. The Commission suggested that government subsidies had only delayed car plant closures and reiterated its longstanding opposition to industry policy and redistributive regional adjustment programmes by government. Industrialists, employer associations, state governments and trade unions have, however, questioned the Commission's forecasts for both economic spillover effects and social impacts in regions affected by automotive plant closures. In addition to challenging several underlying assumptions used to calculate the Productivity Commission's forecasts, this article argues that insufficient attention has been paid to the quality of future work. It extends insights from previous studies of industrial decline by proposing a new research agenda based on the idea of 'social spillovers'.
Competition Gaps of Tomatoes' Industries in Cameron
Currently, the price range of tomatoes is a great loss to the producers or tomato growers in Malaysia. Meanwhile, in terms of the purchasing power of consumers, Malaysia is one of the more prosperous in the countries in Asia with a GDP per capita of about US $ 10,876 in 2016. In reducing the width of the tomato price range, it needs of industrial competition analysis or market tomatoes in Cameron Highland pertinent for the issue. The aim of this study was to identify the tomato industry competition in Cameron Highland, Malaysia, and it was conducted in three (3) stages: a) in this stage, carried out literature studies and searches related and related information to the players, organization, customer, and supplier market tomatoes, b) the collection of data and information according to the research objectives, and c) conduct focus group discussions with the topic a tomato industry competition and tabulation of data. Results of the study found that the tomato industry competition is quite significant in Cameron Highland. The threat of substitute product's tomatoes from other regions or import is very dominant. Nearly 60 percent of tomatoes from Thailand supplied to Malaysia. The indicators, tomatoes are very easily available in the entire super market and traditional market in the peninsula Malaysia. Meanwhile, the State Thailand is a threat from new entrants who have high accessibility of land, which is between Bukit Kayu Hitam (Malaysia) and Sadao (Thailand). On the other hand, distributors have greater bargaining power in determining the market price because he is dealing with a large number of intermediaries to be selected. Industry competition structure above causes the position of farmers locked in power distributor or intermediary is dominant. Meanwhile, developments in information technology become an opportunity for farmers to get information about the price of tomatoes at the farmers directly in connection to the supermarket or to the market. Indirectly, the role of intermediaries can be reduced. Thus, the price of tomatoes is not manipulated by them. In addition, farmers can plan for the future market production.
Strategic Vehicles Import Supply Chain: a paradigm shift in Australian Automotive Industry

This study aims to formulate a buffer stock-adjusted make-to-stock (MTS) parts forecasting heuristic, which has the potential to ease the tight dispatch lead time issue facing first tier suppliers in vehicles import supply chain. The research is motivated by an issue of just-in-time (JIT) parts dispatch to auto companies partly due to inadequate lead time given to the first tier suppliers. Compiling secondary data from industry sources, we estimated the overseas shipment time and parts dispatch lead time while developing heuristics to forecast vehicles parts requirement with due care for buffer stock. Results suggest a strategic hybrid approach combining MTS parts ordering with JIT supply to auto manufacturers. MTS will help first tier suppliers to source and stock parts in-house that can be supplied just in time to help completing vehicle fitment. This approach is likely to ease the lead time pressure of first tier suppliers without affecting JIT supply to the automotive companies. The study concludes with theoretical and practical implications for Australian first tier parts importers as well as automotive companies.

In liberal market economies such as Australia, we generally expect that global pressures will lead to an increasingly deregulated employment relations system reliant on market mechanisms. However, case study evidence from the Australian auto and banking industries shows that employment relations practices vary considerably by sector. In comparing developments in pay systems, skill formation and enterprise governance in both industries, we are able to contrast a rather stable and coordinated approach in place in the auto industry with an increasingly decentralized and deregulated approach in banking. In both industries, employment relations have been significantly influenced by the government's industry policies.
The purpose of this consultancy report was to implement two change management models to provide progressive resolution for VW’s current problem. The report first conducted different analysis such as SWOT, PESTEL and Porter’s Five Force analysis to examine the current position of the company and how competitive it is. Then, the problem of the company discussed in detail such as the impact of the issue on VW, how it is related to the culture of the company and what new strategy VW needs to implement to handle the problem. Moreover, the report suggested two change models a) Kotter’s 8-steps change management model and b) William Bridges’ transition model.
