The growth of Internet of Things have given rise to new possibilities in terms of smart cities. Smart parking facilities and traffic management systems have always been at the core of constructing smart cities. In this paper the system involves using low-cost sensors, RFID tags, real-time data collection and mobile-phone-enabled automated payment systems that allow people to reserve parking very accurately and predict where they will likely find a spot, so this results in reduction in waiting time for parking, along with reduction in car emission and pollution, improved city visitor experience and need for manpower is reduced.
Machine vision based smart parking system using Internet of Things
TELKOMNIKA Telecommunication Computing Electronics and Control, 2019
It is expected that in the next decade, majority of world population will be living in cities. Better public services and infrastructures in the city are needed to cope with the booming population. City vehicles that cruising for parking have indirectly causing traffic, making one harder to travel around the city. Thus, a smart parking system can certainly lays the foundation to build a smart city. This paper proposed a cost-effective IoT smart parking system to monitor city parking space and provide real-time parking information to drivers. Moreover, instead of the conventional approach that uses embedded sensors to detect vehicles in the parking area, camera image and machine vision technology are used to obtain the parking status. In the prototype, twenty outdoor parking lots are covered using a 5 megapixel camera connected to Raspberry Pi 3 installed at the 5th floor of the nearby building. Machine vision in this project that involved motion tracking and Canny edge detection are programmed in Python 2 using OpenCV technology. Corresponding data is uploaded to an IoT platform called Ubidots for possible monitoring activity. An Android mobile application is designed for user to download real-time data of parking information. This paper introduces a low cost smart parking system with the overall detection accuracy of 96.40%. Also, the mobile application allows users to alert other car owners for any emergency incidents and double parking blockage. The developed system can provide a platform for users to search for empty car parking with ease and reduce the traffic issues such as illegal double parking especially in the urban area.
A Cloud-Based Smart-Parking System Based on Internet-of-Things Technologies
IEEE Access, 2015
This paper introduces a novel algorithm that increases the efficiency of the current cloud-based smart-parking system and develops a network architecture based on the Internet-of-Things technology. This paper proposed a system that helps users automatically find a free parking space at the least cost based on new performance metrics to calculate the user parking cost by considering the distance and the total number of free places in each car park. This cost will be used to offer a solution of finding an available parking space upon a request by the user and a solution of suggesting a new car park if the current car park is full. The simulation results show that the algorithm helps improve the probability of successful parking and minimizes the user waiting time. We also successfully implemented the proposed system in the real world. INDEX TERMS Smart-parking system, performance metrics.
Internet of Things Smart Parking Area
The dramatic increase in the number of vehicles in recent years has led to the problem of finding an empty car park area. Smart Park is one of the solution methods of the developing technology for the problems in the parking area. As a result of this strategy, easier and faster parking will be performed using less resources. The purpose of our project is to solve these parking problems and use the park areas with maximum efficiency. In addition, by using this strategy, the use of parking lots will be ensured at the optimum level by saving fuel and time.

In the great majority of cities it is difficult and hardly expensive to create more parking spaces for vehicles since they have almost reached its full occupancy. Combining this problem with an inefficient use of parking spaces leads to congestions due to aggregation of parking seekers and regular drivers. Recent advances in low-cost, low-power embedded systems bring the opportunity to develop new applications to solve these problems. In particular, Smart Cities greatly enrich their sustainability by introducing new resource management applications that rely in those constrained devices a significant part of the functionality of the system. The proposed SmartParking solution consists mainly in the on-site deployment of an IoT solution to monitor and signalize the state of availability of each single parking space, as well as using context information generated by the city and its citizens to provide accurate responses to driver's demands. Furthermore, this system improves the management of parking resources by public authorities, for instance handling groups of parking spaces facilitating the whole city traffic management. The integration of this deployment into an existing live test-bed implies an easy task requiring just the data collection through the available means of the parking spaces availability. At the present time there exist living testbeds which can be used to integrate these new functionalities for experimentation on IoT data level, to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the M2M world, reducing costs, resources, pollution and time.

Automated parking systems can provide parking space easily with the help of a smart way with the help of IoT. Wireless access to the system is provided by this IoT technology. In metropolitan cities, the number of vehicles is increasing day by day which needs to be maintained by proper management. IoT based parking systems provide knowledge about the management system. Normally users waste their time finding out any parking space, IoT based parking space can reduce this problem and save time, cost, and effort of users. To avoid car theft RFID cards are used. All information about users is stirred in a cloud database

The Smart Parking System is a modern approach to resolve the parking issues in our country. This application will help all the users to find the perfect parking spot in shopping complexes or a public parking system. It has an additional feature of securing the vehicle using Face Recognition. (Abstract)
Smart Parking Bay Based on Image processing and Internet of Things
2018
In Urban areas, it is estimated that up to 35% of traffic is due to drivers searching for nearby available parking slot. Research also propose that drivers invest an average of 3-6 minutes searching for an available space. Thereby it increases individual stress levels as well as pollution and congestion. Smart Parking Systems afford an impressive way to reduce parking search time by providing drivers with dynamic information on parking premises. This paper intents to present an automated system for parking space detection based on image processing technique. The monitor shows the number of current available parking lots in the parking area. Authorization card will be given to each user, which carries the vehicle number and user details. Thus the proposed system will entirely eliminate the commotion in searching for available parking lots and it could be practiced everywhere due to its ease of management and efficacy.
Developing an advanced smart parking system using IoT
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF ADVANCE RESEARCH, IDEAS AND INNOVATIONS IN TECHNOLOGY
Internet of Things (IoT) plays an important role in connecting the surrounding things of an environment to the network and provides easy access from the remote location. It is essential that the people should be updated along with the growing technology. In the present world, there is a numerous number of vehicles owned by the people. Due to this large number of vehicles, there will be a lot of discomfort for parking of a vehicle at public places such as shopping complexes, function halls, and cinema theatres. In such places, it is very difficult to find a vacant place to park the vehicle, even though it is a paid facility along with the security guard. In this study, we design an Advanced Smart Parking System (ASPS) which identifies the vehicle and displays an empty slot on the display at the entrance gate of the parking. So that the person will know whether there is any availability or not before entering into the parking place. This system of design also provides the shortest path from the entrance gate to the assigned parking slot by showing the directions through leds. This process of implementation does not involve human interaction except the payment collection.
IoT based cost-effective smart parking system
AIP Conference Proceeding, 2023
The number of vehicles on the road has been increasing rapidly, especially in metropolitan cities. It's observed finding parking space is a time consuming and hectic task for the drivers, moreover, the environment is also get affected due to the level of fuel burn in the parking lot. Therefore, a practically feasible solution is demanded to find out parking space in small spam of time to save the driver's time and to keep our cities clean. In this paper, a framework is proposed to provide parking space for vehicles by using IoT and some other technologies. Moreover, application based hardware is proposed using microcontrollers, IoT devices and web applications. The proposed design also gives multiple options for the payment to save time and deadlocks in the parking area.
