Czasopismo Techniczne the Discreet Charm of the Sketch Dyskretny Urok Szkicu
The sketch is an inseparable part of the process of creating an architectural space, being present at every stage of its development-during the stage when an idea is formed, all the way to the moment of the work itself. It is useful as a means of writing down an architect's thoughts, in presenting his work to a client, as well as a supporting tool during the process of overseeing the construction of a building. Thanks to its indeterminate nature it stimulates the imagination during the early stages of design, being at the same time the easiest means of communicating one's thoughts on the construction site. The article outlines the usefulness of the sketch as a tool that an architect can use, basing on the examples provided by contemporary creators of architecture.
The sketch as an expression in architectural design idea
ABSTRACT The drawings as a tool of visualization an architectural idea reflects on the architectural thinking in the designing and shows its relation to the environmental and the cultural heritage. The architect shows in his/ her drawings authority in the construction of new forms in the space, together with a sense of the spirituality and the creative passion lacking in other forms of the presentation. The report shows the stages in the architectural design with the methods for visualization and the place of drawing in them. It highlights the similarities and the interactions between hand-crafted conceptual drawings of the architect, the perspective drawings and the computer images for visualization in the design process. Author`s thesis is that drawing, as appropriate, managed the primary education in the architecture, can visualize and suggest the most direct idea of the future architect. The expended results are relevant to the contemporary education in the drawing in specialty architecture EPGs. They are part of the thesis of the author with a topic,, Drawing as a tool for visualization and development of the architectural idea in designing” and can outline future research endeavors in this area.
ICERI Proceedings, 2016
In architectural design process, designers do sketches to tell what they think about and to improve these ideas. Sketches are important for design process, not for only being a communication tool that tells designers thoughts but also they engage in an interaction by introducing new ideas and developing them. In this context, sketch is not possible to separate from the design process. Designing process continue as long as the act of making sketches which is the visualization tool of continuing ideas. With the advancement of technology it has become part of computer design process and sketches in digital environment work has begun. Today's situation is, programs have been developed that provide the opportunity to sketch using computer and has now become a reality that cannot be ignored from the two different environments for the design process. This study will focus on to sketch in architectural design studio and drawing approaches in digital environment. In this context, this study will examine the design process, the role of the sketches in this process, sketch approaches on computer, and developments in these matters.
Illustration a powerful communication tool through Digital Sketching
Amity school of architecture & planning, 2018
The basic of the Graphical language are the illustrations which are followed from the ancient times like in prehistoric Mesopotamia and Egyptian civilization the drawing was carved on the wall and on a clay tablet which may be used for circulating the meaningful information or mode of communication. If we compare with ancient times, the techniques are less and so the graphics medium was also limited but today there are numerous and innovative ways to express the design through graphical language. The purpose of using illustration in architecture is to present the ideas and scheme in the first stroke and also to make understand the idea at a first glance. This practice can also help in other disciplines like onsite sketching, making caricatures and illustrations. The aim at writing this paper is to focus on the graphical language which is the key to the architecture profession the language of architecture is laying in between art, spatial relation and execution and so on. In today’s time with the involvement of technology techniques also changes so in architecture the digital method overpowering on traditional techniques. The aim of this paper is to value and choose the technique and technology in a right way.
Design space as synthesis of architecture and painting with the use of digital technology
2014
The article discusses the use of computer technology tools for digital painting to achieve the synthesis of art, architecture and design. Noted that in search of architectural projects shown synthesis of Fine Arts, in the form of plastic and color computer processing of architectural elements, pictorial images, photographs, sculptural forms. The method used associative color-graphic transformation of natural forms, the project creates unusual shapes that meet current environmental concepts. It is shown that a computer architect - artist is engaged interesting creative process , embodying the idea of future works , creates virtual drawings , sketches , designs, using new electronic technologies in the field of visual works, promoting convergence and their penetration into modern art. The Sketch: An Ageless Drawing
Graphic Imprints. The Influence of Representation and Ideation Tools in Architecture, 2018
Starting from the basis that it is too restrictive to speak about a single type of drawing, this paper focuses its interest on hand drawing, which allows us to study and question the visible and the invisible. The aim is to explore the sketch timelessness through the analysis of a series of drawings from different architects and moments in time, which have given rise to architectures that are, indeed, framed within the time of their creation. Some sketches of Sverre Fehn that are compared with others of Mario Cucinella and some sketches of Lina Bobardi that are compared with others of Pierre Thibault are of invaluable help to achieve this purpose.
Sketch as a Tool of Thought in Art and Science
Human, Technologies and Quality of Education, 2022
Professors from different studies such as fine arts, engineering in industrial design and digital graphic design and from different universities (Politécnica de Madrid, Complutense de Madrid and Internacional de La Rioja) have participated in an educational innovation project dealing with sketching as a starting point to creation. Teachers from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid proposed to their students exchange experiences. Students from industrial design went to classes to the Fine Art Faculty and fine art students had to deal with an industrial design proposal. The aim of the experience is to know how students from different studies manage drawing tools to start their work; drawings to finally paint a still life, drawings to understand volume in a sculpture plaster model to reproduce it with clay, and sketches to propose a Christmas ornament made with wood. After the experience, drawings from exercises from the three universities hav...
The Power of Manual Sketching in Design
International Journal of Design Education, Volume 7, Issue 1, Pages: 1-21, 2013
Through the onslaught of digital architecture and the computerization of design tools, the manual sketch design started to become extinct. Concepts of projects, therefore, became soulless and were missing the cultural dimension. The manual sketch passed many epochs, booming by the pioneers of the renaissance age, i.e. the sketches of Da Vinci and Angelo, which represented deep hidden philosophies. Since the appearance of the computer, architectural society has used it not only as a design tool translating the architectural ideas, but also as a vehicle of thinking. The twentieth century witnessed an extraordinary talent of renowned architects whose manual sketches expressed their own characters. This paper aims to focus on the power of manual sketch in design, recognizing its categories and analyzing international examples and local examples through developing students’ sketches in the teaching of architectural design in an Egyptian academy. In this analysis, the paper identifies each sketch and its main theme. Finally, the paper concludes the important role of manual sketch in design, especially in the stage of setting the concept and presenting the various design alternatives.
The Impact of Digital Architecture on Freehand Sketches Through Design Process
2014
ﺔﻴﻤﻴﻤﺼﺘﻟا ﺔﻴﻠﻤﻌﻟا مﺪﺨﻳ ﺎﻤﺑو ﻢﻬﻨﻣ . Since the emergence of computer and its different applications to architecture fields and the design process specifically, it made a clear impact on changing the ways of expressing architectural ideas of the architectural designer - student or architect - and utilizing the new design tools. This paper introduces a view on the role of freehand sketches versus computer applications in design process and analysis of pioneering architects' works, searching for the most appropriate method, which represents the use of all methods' features and incorporates it through the design stages so as to the utilization of freehand sketches or computer applications and can be use in the appropriate stage of each one and in a manner that can serving the design process. This paper recommended that the architects, architectural educators and students have recently merged the two methods to take advantage of all features, avoid the disadvantages, use of sketche...
