COURSE DESCRIPTION: Students will develop higher levels of listening comprehension, oral competence, and communicative proficiency and will acquire oral strategies of expression, through the analysis and discuss of short stories, short movies, songs, and Internet memes. To fulfill this goal the course 1.) encourage the reading and analysis of texts and cultural products to provide topics to conversation, 2.) guide oral practice of basic grammatical and conversational patterns, 3.) help adding active vocabulary, and 4.) facilitate the improvement of listening comprehension and speaking ability, promoting confidence to use Spanish inside and outside the classroom. The thematic focus of the course will be the study of protest song between the ’60s and ’80s of the 20th century, and 21st century’ Internet meme about literary, cultural and political aspects, in the Caribbean and Latin America.
