Entrepreneurial Innovative Skills and Financial Performance of Women-Owned Enterprises in Balogun Market, Lagos Island, Nigeria

This paper explored the relationship between innovative skills and financial performance of women owned enterprises in Balogun Market, Lagos Island, Nigeria. This study was guided by Hoselitz’s Theory of entrepreneurship supported by the innovative theory of entrepreneurship. This study adopted the correlational research design. The target population was 1000 entrepreneurs of small and medium-sized women-owned business enterprises in Balogun market the fluid survey formula was used to select a sample of 280 entrepreneurs. Strategic Effect of Socio-Economic and Financial Factors on Performance of Women Entrepreneurs in Nigeria

ABSTRACT This study is aimed at examining the effects of socio- economic and financial factors on the performance of women entrepreneurs in Oyo state and two hundred and forty women entrepreneurs who are involved in trading, hairdressing and tailoring were purposively selected from amongst those registered in their respective associations. All the data were derived from primary sources. The results demonstrated that a significant relationship exists between socio- economic factors and the performance of women entrepreneurs. All the socio- economic factors (age, marital status, education and years of experience) were significant and positive at (P < 0.05). This implied that socio- economic factors are critical success factors that help entrepreneurs to survive, manage in difficult conditions and keep the business profitable. Furthermore, credit and savings impacted significantly on the performance of the entrepreneurs. The micro-entrepreneurs surveyed were revealed to be performing very poorly because majority of the entrepreneurs had no access to external funds. The finding indicated that the women entrepreneurs’ propensity to save for the growth of their enterprises was on average very low implying that they were experiencing some constraint factors. This tends to affect the performance of the women entrepreneurs negatively. Therefore, the study recommended that formal and informal entrepreneurship education should be given to micro- entrepreneurs in order to develop their managerial capabilities, accounting skills and overall be made more credit worthy and the Federal government should consider developing policies that will create an enabling environment for the development and proper operation of cooperative thrift and credit societies and other group initiatives.

Influence of Entrepreneurial Skills on the Growth of Micro and Small Enterprises Owned by Women in Meru County, Kenya

This study was aimed at establishing the influence of entrepreneurial skills on the growth of women owned micro and small enterprises in Meru town. The target population consisted of all women owned micro and small enterprises in Meru town. These enterprises can be classified into four types namely, trade, service, manufacturing and processing. This data was obtained from the business registration register. The study used descriptive statistics and used self- administered questionnaires to collect data. Data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statictics using SPSS version 22. The study found that entrepreneurial skills such as marketing skills, financial management skills, human management skills, organizing skills among others had very strong influence on the growth of MSEs owned by women. This study was designed to improve women entrepreneur's activities and related performance. The study also was designed to examine the relationship between microfinance resources factors; access to finance, and savings, and women microenterprises performance in Nigeria. Data were collected from the women microenterprises operating in Gombe Nigeria using a cross-sectional study design. The study adopted stratified sampling technique. Three hundred and sixty-three usable data were gathered to determine 2 direct hypotheses developed to address the research problem and Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) path modeling was employed to analyze the data. The results support 2 direct hypotheses revealing the empirical evidence on the significant relationships between microenterprises performance and finance access, and savings. The study provides an insight on how finance and savings support services help microenterprises grow to reduce poverty and improve livings standard among Nigerian women.

The women role in entrepreneurship is derivable. Personal experience, knowledge, education and training are accumulated human resources than the women entrepreneurs contribute to the enterprise. The aim of the study is to investigate the impact of women entrepreneurs on the growth of Small and Medium Enterprise in Kaduna State. This was achieved by determining the influence of education of women entrepreneurs and establishing the effect of work experience acquiredby women entrepreneurs have on the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kaduna State. The study was conducted in Kaduna Metropolis, Zaria, Birin-Gwari, Kafanchan, Kachia, and Zonkwa towns of the state. These towns are cosmopolitan. A total of 112 questionnaires were sent out and administered to the respondents. 75 of the questionnaires were returned and considered useable representing 68% of the response rate. Data was analyzed using regression analysis to establish findings. The findings have shown that education and work experience of women entrepreneurs have effect on the growth of SMEs in Kaduna State. As can be seen in the rate of turnover and number of employees the SMEs generated. This research set out to analyze the women entrepreneurs and survival of small–scale enterprises in Nigeria. Gender Differentials in Factors Affecting Performance of Small-Scale Enterprises in Lagos State –Nigeria

There is a lack of empirical data segregation on factors affecting gender as the variable of interest. However, previous research had indicated several factors that affect business performances among small-scale enterprise owners. Using feminist theory and a descriptive survey research design, data were collected from fifty (50) small-scale enterprise owners that were purposively chosen across the study area. The findings show that the factors that were significant for female were significantly different from male. For female small scale enterprise owners, marital status (64%) Age of Children (68%), Role Model/ advisors (58%) were significant factors that affect their business performance. For male small-scale enterprise owners, Friends (70%), a lack of Government support (80%), inability to display innovativeness (78%) and Risk-Taking (84%) were significant for male. Lack of availability of capital and finances were significant for the two. Other factors that affect performance include friends, inadequate training and business location. Adequate knowledge of factors that affect gender enterprise performance will go a long way in alleviating these problems. Small-scale enterprises should be supported for poverty alleviation, especially among women and for the nation's economic development

Entrepreneurial Innovativeness and Performance of Women Entrepreneurs' in Rivers State, Nigeria

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between entrepreneurial innovativeness and performance of women entrepreneurs. The study adopted a cross sectional survey design to solicit responses from women entrepreneurs in Rivers state, using simple random. The target population of Women Entrepreneurs in Rivers State is 329 obtained from the 2014 Directory of the Rivers State Ministry of Women Affairs and Rivers State Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The sample size was 181 using the Taro Yamen's formula. After data cleaning, only data of 153 respondents were finally used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics and Spearman's rank correlation were used for data analysis and hypothesis testing. Findings revealed that innovativeness has significant relationship with women entrepreneurs to employment creation but the relationship was not significant with contribution to household sustenance. The study thus concluded that entrepreneurial innovativeness bears a positive and significant influence on performance of women entrepreneurs though the dimensions and measures show variations in the significance of relationships. We recommend that women should be engaged in entrepreneurial education to develop right competencies, skills and needed entrepreneurial capacities.
