Omówienie sytuacji pisarskiego dorobku Olizarowskiego prowadzi mnie do refleksji nad (analogiczną) sytuacją spuścizny wielu innych twórców określanych jako „drugorzędni” i obecnie niemal zupełnie zapomnianych. The Forgotten Romantic versus Contemporary Editions of Tomasz Olizarowski’s Works In this article, I point out the flaws in recent editions of Tomasz Olizarowski’s works – starting from careless proofreading through not including printing mistakes from the first edition and ending with deliberate text deformation. All these factors affect the perception of every piece – its interpretation and the author’s workshop. However, most researchers who deal with the poet’s works sporadically, contextually and without a thorough examination of his entire legacy often reach for a random text source, many times without even being aware of the whole set of texts or the imperfections of existing editions. Discussing the situation of Olizarowski’s literary heritage leads us to reflect on the (analogous) case of the legacy of many other authors once deemed as “minorum gentium” and now almost completely forgotten.
“Ja już podarłem kilka swoich sztuk…”. From the personal archive of Adam Tarn
Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Litteraria Polonica
The personal archive of Adam Tarn (1902–1975), the first editor-in-chief of the Dialog monthly and a translator, critic, novelist, and playwright, includes notes with loose ideas for plays, notes to his unfinished book on Chekhov, and minor literary attempts, which he corrected, set aside and later expanded. This material, which Tarn’s heirs kindly offered me for study, constitutes a valuable proof the creative process and the evolution of the writing of the Dialog’s editor-in-chief. In the context of Obraz ojca w czterech ramach [Father’s Image in Four Frames] (1934), Tarn’s début novel and the only one he completed, the novel Kameleon [Chameleon] is an intriguing item in the author’s collection of unfinished works. In this article I shall discuss the material contained in Tarn’s personal archive. This study offers an insight into his “internal laboratory” of writing and enables one to read it from, e.g., the biographical perspective. The dating of the collected material can be onl...
Współczesny, mądry i piękny detal
BUILDER
Architecture is, to a large extent, perceived through its details – visible in public spaces, landscapes, buildings. The topic of detailing needs special attention especially because of the deficiency of quality – a lack of cultural values and functionality of many objects, spaces and places constituting our contemporary daily surroundings. Observation of our environment with a sensitive eye, but also the data of public opinion polls prove that a general need and care for solutions that add to functionality, beauty, structural wisdom is not a priority. Objects that are designed and realised with care make a well visible contrast in comparison with common neglect. The opinion of Christopher Alexander and his colleagues can be mentioned, on the two tendencies in approach to the Earth’s environment, shown as two world systems – the one creative and supporting life and a destructive one. The potentially expected growing quality of detailing (meaning the general improvement of architectu...
