Intelligent information systems for business analysis are a strategic tool that enables different sized organizations to analyze and manage huge amounts of business information. Data Mining for Small and Medium Enterprises: A Conceptual Model for Adaptation

The following paper explored data mining issues in Small and Medium Enterprises' (SMEs), firstly exploring the relationship between data mining and economic development. With SME's contributing most employment prospects and output within any emerging economy such as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Adopting technology will improve SME's potential for effective decision making and efficient operations. Hence, it is important that SMEs have access to data mining techniques and implement the most suited into their business to improve their business intelligence (BI). The paper is aimed to critically review the existing literature on data mining in the field of SME to provide a theoretical underpinning for any future work. It has been found data mining to be complicated and fragmented with a multitude of options available for businesses from quite basic systems implemented within Excel or Access to more sophisticated cloud-based systems. For any business, data mining is trade-off between the need for data analysis, and intelligence against the cost and resource-use of the system put in place. Multiple challenges have been identified to data mining, most notably the resource-intensive nature of systems (both in terms of labor and capital) and the security issues of data collection, analysis and storage; with General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) a key focus for Kingdom of Saudi Arabia businesses. With these challenges the paper suggests that any SME starts small with an internal data mining exercise to digitalize and analyze their customer data, scaling up over time as the business grows and acquires the resources needed to properly manage any system.

According to research findings, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are facingproblems such as an excessively large volume of data, lack of information and lack of knowledge. Therefore, in order to make decisions on time, the managers of SMEs use mainly their experience, which implies a high risk of failure. Discovering knowledge from a waste amount of data has become a promising area nowadays, but at the same time it is a very intricate, uncertain and time consuming process. The complexity of a data collection, the oscillations in data quality and their impact on the discovery process, as well as the applicability of results, urge for an extensive research and gain of experience to overcome the difficulties that can jeopardize the knowledge in data discovery (KDD) process as a whole. The paper presents the knowledge management and business, intelligent concepts in order to analyze enterprise internal and external resources based on the knowledge transfer and capitalization processes. The virtual enterprise business network purposed solution expect to improve small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) involvement in new product manufacturing networking efforts in an virtual industrial holding, enable better and faster decision processes and promote the development of the business services. The main goal of the paper is to propose knowledge management solutions to support knowledge applications development at the industrial holding level. An expert system for products identification when the technical characteristics are known will illustrate how this system works. That intends to facilitate and enhance the required knowledge management processes linked with the business process management in knowledge alliances at an industrial holding level.
Intelligent Organizations in Digital Age - Case Study of SMEs in Poland

Business in the 21st century is being redefined by a data-driven revolution. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) play an essential role in the global economic growth. The share of the Polish SME sector in GNP has been at 48% for years now. This sector has been also among the most dynamically developing and computerizing areas in the Polish economy. ICT (Information and Communication Technology) systems create the foundation of modern economic organizations in the times of digital transformation. This applies in particular to advanced ICT infrastructure, which is the condition sine qua non for the effective knowledge management. The objective of this article is to discuss organizational and technological aspects within the modern knowledge management using ICT called SMAC (Social, Mobility, Analytics, Cloud), being at present the canon of ICT support in this respect. The analysis has been illustrated with findings of research carried out by the author in 2014-17 in selected SMEs from Mazowieckie and Wielkopolskie provinces.

The paper proposes a new methodological approach to the organization and implementation of Business Intelligence in the SME sector. It is based on the assumption that SMEs do not have sufficient knowledge, skills and organizational, personnel and financial resources to make independent implementation of solutions of this class. On the other hand, such tools could have a significant impact on a growth of their competitiveness and strengthen their position in a competitive market. In this context, a new solution is proposed for design, implementation and deployment of the BI system, supporting the competitiveness management of SMEs.

This paper summarizes the difficulties to make a quantitative research in management, especially in SMEs and family business, when the owners of the information are not even aware of the value information they might have for researches, do not see any value added to be part on an academic research or simply it is not possible to include them in the sample due terminology heterogeneity.
