Waste and its impact on environmental pollution and public health

The study of waste is very important, and its decomposition into toxic substances as well as unpleasant odors. The impact of waste on the environment and public health has become a serious matter, and it is necessary to find an appropriate solution for it. The research sheds light on the definition of waste, the most important factors that contribute to the aggravation of waste accumulation, both in cities and villages, and its most important types, including industrial, agricultural, household, medical, solid, liquid, and others. It discusses essential topics, including the impact of waste on the environment and its significant impact on air, water, and soil pollution, the diseases it causes to humans, and the losses it inflicts on the countries' economies. The research also deals with the most important measures to reduce waste and its collection in cities by educating citizens about the importance of preserving the purity of the environment and human health to reduce pollution.

Modelling of The Effect of Waste Management in Ikeja Area of Lags State Nigeria

Borobudur Engineering Review

There is no doubt that waste in all ramifications disturbs the balance of nature. As a result of this, it will be of great importance to mankind if a way is devised to foretell how the effectiveness or otherwise of waste management can affect the lives of those living in an area. This work considers waste management in a holistic view and attempts to develop a model for the relationship between waste management/disposal method and its effect on the people living within a defined geographical location. Lagos which has a relatively high daily per capital domestic waste generation rate in Nigeria has not yet established a comprehensive waste management system. A municipal solid waste management is designed based on Nigerian situations at the end of which a model y=-0.6228x + 56.31 was obtained. This predicts that as waste disposal method becomes appropriate and adequate, the occurrence of different types of diseases decreases rapidly. This may be a very useful tool of waste management ...

Study of Influencing Factors of Domestic Solid Waste Management in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja

2022

The study is on the influencing factors of domestic solid waste management in Abuja targeted at investigating and studying the factors influencing domestic solid waste management in Abuja, Historically, the amount of wastes generated by human population was insignificant mainly due to the low population densities, coupled with the fact that there was very little exploitation of natural resources. The problem associated with the management of solid waste in most urban cities in Nigeria, like Abuja, does not completely appear to be a problem of absence of legislative framework for solid waste management owing to the fact that at Federal, States, and Local governments levels, there exist some form of sanitation legislations or the other, but some other factors have come to play with the crises experienced in the management of wastes in the Nigerian urban centers. Methodology: The research procedures involve the following: research design, population of the study, sample and sampling techniques, instrumentation, validation of the instrument, administration of the instrument and data analysis techniques. Findings: The result of the study to determine the social factor affecting the management of domestic waste: Location have great effect on waste management, not that everyone should leave in that location, but amenities available in that location should be considered in other locations too. There's is inadequate waste bin located across the location of study. To determine the economic factor affecting the management of domestic waste: The key economic factor affecting waste management is the poor economy of the nation. Poor or bad technological concept lack of facilities, insufficient man power and more affect the waste management. To determine the natural factors affecting household waste management in Abuja: Top on the natural factor that affects solid waste management in Abuja is the wind, topography and flooding. Which made the management of this waste difficult by the waste management companies. Rain have a slight

Environmental pollution and waste management

This paper will discuss the problem of environmental pollution and waste management. Everything that surrounds us is directly or indirectly connected to the environment. Not only the man, but also other living beings as well as the nature (volcanic eruptions, earthquakes) have effects on environmental pollution. Environmental pollution is present from the very beginning of life, but today it is a serious problem that threatens the survival of mankind. During the preparation of scientific research, we noticed a problem: “What is the influence of the waste management on the environment?” Today, every person living on planet Earth is worried about environmental pollution because the consequences faced every day, through the air we breathe, the food and water we consume, through pollution and radiation we are exposed to. Also, the consequences of environmental problems are manifested through the lack of natural resources, extinction of plant and animal species, as well as the problems in the global ecosystems and biochemical processes. Based on the research problem we can hypothesize: Yes, waste management has a great impact on the environment.

The Concept of Waste Management

In this present paper give a definition of waste management which represents in fact a succession of actions by collecting, transport, processing, recycling and finally of elimination of these. The waste management methods are different in function of level of development at that country, of area type (rural, urban, and industrial) and of the waste type.

Effects of Municipal Waste Management on Human Health and Environment: Lagos State as a Case Study

International Journal of Advances in Engineering and Management (IJAEM), 2020

ABSTRACT: Waste management is the process of treating solid wastes and offers variety of solutions for recycling items that don’t belong to trash. It is about how garbage can be used as a valuable resource. Waste management is something that each and every household and business owner in the world needs. Waste management disposes of the products and substances that you have use in a safe and efficient manner. This study exposes the correlation between efficient waste management system, human health and quality of the general environment. Waste management implies dealing with waste in an environmentally responsible way from its generation until it is finally disposed of. It requires everyone to be responsible by prioritising waste minimisation, treatment and recycling and then its final disposal. By so doing, both human life and the entire environment is preserved. This paper reviews the impact of waste management on water, soil, air quality, the environment and human health. The various method of handling and disposal of wastes was carefully reviewed against the standard practices with a focus on Lagos Metropolis. Poor waste management practice in five major dumping sites in Lagos and the dangerous health challenges and the environmental concerns were raised. The best waste management practice was recommended. Key words: Dumping site, Environmental, Human health, Landfill, Wastes disposal,
