Universities with Campus Area Networks (CAN) are always faced with the challenges of bandwidth congestion. This is because of the volume of academic electronic files that are frequently being transferred coupled with lack of bandwidth management. This research therefore studied the behavioral pattern of the CAN users. The network data were collected over a period of 60 days and were analyzed. The analysis include: peer-to-peer activities, traffic analyses and the domain hit by the users. These were carried out per individual node and the time-of-day they occurred. The analyses confirm the congestion of the available bandwidth and gave an insight on how best to manage the available scarce bandwidth. Bandwidth management techniques were recommended for further work.

Understanding the Use of a Campus Wireless Network
The University of Saskatchewan campus covers a large physical area, with more than 40 buildings distributed over 147 hectares of land on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River. Our geography has a significant impact on our approach to delivery of information technology. The campus wireless network is one of several new projects that we have introduced since 2001 to enhance the computing environment for our 18,000 students. Our approach is to provide mobile users with access to our wireline network through high-speed wireless access points located in very public areas.
User’s Macro and Micro-mobility Study using WLANs in a University Campus

Wireless Local Area Networks are important and necessary in university campuses and large enterprise areas. Such networks allow us to have data connection anywhere without wires and many other benefits such as to obtain the location of the users. Moreover, they can be used to track the users. Tracking the user's mobility we can know which places are most visited, if people have to go to places that are far from their office, detect the best location for emergency points, etc. Moreover, we can study the mobility pattern of several users. According to this pattern, the network can use reconfiguration systems to reallocate resources and improve its connectivity. This paper shows us the case study of a university campus of two square kilometers and how we have taken advantage of the information gathered from the wireless network. Two studies (macro and micro mobility) have been done in order to make this survey. This approach can be used by the enterprises to optimize the sites to place their resources (network printers, servers, meeting rooms, etc.). Furthermore, the network's administrators can use these parameters to improve the network's behavior by providing a better connection, better roaming, etc.
Characterising the use of a campus wireless network

We present the results of an analysis of the usage of our new campus-wide wireless network. A week-long traffic trace was collected in January 2003, recording address and protocol information for every packet sent and received on the wireless network. A centralised authentication log was used to match packets with wireless access points. The trace was analysed to answer questions about where, when, how much, and for what our wireless network is being used. Such information is important in evaluating design principles and planning for future network expansion.

The purpose of this research is to provide good Quality of Service for all internet users in a network by managing bandwidth with Peer Connection Queue (PCQ) method using Queue Tree. The background of this research is because there is often an uneven bandwidth sharing in every user in a network that results in one user can access the internet faster and another user accesses the internet more slowly than other users. By applying the Peer Connection Queue (PCQ) method using Queue Tree, every user who accesses the internet will get an even bandwidth allocation. Testing using Mikrotik RouterBoard with multiple computers connected via wired and some devices connected over a wireless network. The results showed that bandwidth management with PCQ method using Queue Tree gives better results than without using PCQ because by using PCQ all users who are members of one network get equal bandwidth allocation between one and the other so that users feel fair. Which means the Quality of Service provided by the network provider has been very good
People mobility behaviour study in a university campus using WLANs

One of them is the use of the user's mobility information when there is ubiquity in the wireless network. This information can tell us which places are most visited, if people have to go to places that are far from their office, detect the best situation for critic points, etc. The study presented in this paper show us the case study of a university campus of two square kilometers and how we have taken advantage of the information gathered from the wireless network. Analysis of Internet Traffic in Educational Network Based on Users Preferences
The demand for Internet services and network resources in Educational networks are increasing rapidly. Specifically, the revolution of web 2.0 "also referred to as the Read-Write Web" has changed the way of information exchange and distribution. Although web 2.0 has gained attraction in all sectors of the education industry, but it results in high-traffic loads on networks which often leads to the Internet users' dissatisfaction. Therefore, analyzing Internet traffic becomes an urgent need to provide high-quality service, monitoring bandwidth usage. In this study, we focus on analyzing the Internet traffic in Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) main campus. We performed measurement analysis form the application level characteristics based on users' preferences. A total of three methodological steps are carried out to meet the objective of this study namely data collection, data analysis and data presentation. The finding shows that social networks are the most web applications visited in UUM. These findings lead to facilitate the enhancement of Educational network performance and Internet bandwidth strategies.
Solution for a Proper Utilization of Bandwidth in the Area of Mobile Internet

Mobile Internet is that category of service which the people can operate from their smartphone or any kind of mobile device not only to communicate with anywhere in the world, but also getting benefits in the field of education, E-commerce, social network etcetera through internet according to their needs. Moreover, in the period of emergency time, i.e. "COVID-19" it has also seen that, the people of the world successfully communicated with the sector of medical service for their health and safety in whole 24 hours. But, without the proper utilization of bandwidth, it will be possible to ineffective for getting the people’s benefit from the Mobile Internet because firstly, bandwidth is very expensive, and secondly, without bandwidth the Mobile Internet is useless. Therefore, we have proposed a solution for a proper utilization of bandwidth for the area of Mobile Internet, which will provide the best utilization of bandwidth for the user of Mobile Internet and also influences to protect the unnecessary bandwidth and money waste.

A cross-sectional survey on use of access control list application for bandwidth management among selected public higher education institutions in Ethiopia was conducted. The objective was to help academic institutions achieve sustainable quality of network service and bandwidth management. 100 information and communication technology staff of 3 directorates of universities and located at Haramaya, Dire Dawa and Odabutum were sampled, using purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Structured questionnaire, interview and observation checklist used for data collection and analyzed to answer the research question. Results revealed a set of procedures performed by hardware, software and administrators, to monitor access, identify users requesting access, record access attempts, and grant or deny access to resources on the internet was used as access control list application. Also, revealed was qualitative data analysis that allowed students to bring their own devices (no matter the number) to connect to the campus-wide network. The implication of results in the three universities was that they were not taking bandwidth management seriously, which was evidenced by the absence of access control list application. It concludes that access control list application for bandwidth management is a necessity and Graphical Network Simulator software version 3 was recommended as appropriate for implementation.
