The purposes of the study are assessing the current level of service (LOS) at the 14 th-Ramadhan signalized intersection in CBD area of Al-Mansoor district in Baghdad city and increasing the improvement of the traffic operation system by investigating appropriate proposals to increase the traffic capacity of this facility. Data of traffic flow collected using Tally mark method by many observers. Evaluation of the current intersection is to be taken in consideration using HCS Technique (2010), also existing and proposal layouts are displayed using AutoCAD (2017). The results showed that the selected traffic facility are currently suffered from serious lowering in service level causing forced conditions (LOS "F"). Thus, most important considerations should be considered for developing in the LOS by proposing many solutions. In summary, the study is proposed to execute the overpass structure (Grade Separation Bridge) along 14th-Ramadhan street from southbound to northbound directions and vice versa (two lanes in each direction) considering the third proposal (P3). By using HCS2010, the LOS will be changed from F to B assuming that it is expected to continue at higher traffic performance for approximately at least 15 year later

ASSESSMENT OF AL-FARIS AL-ARABEE SIGNALIZED INTERSECTION IN BAGHDAD PROVINCE USING COMPUTER SOFTWARE
Traffic congestion is a major problem around the world including the capital Baghdad, because of there is a wide range of vital centers (commercial, governmental, educational) in Alkarkh side of Baghdad city. The aim of the current study includes analyzing, evaluating and improving the operation for Al-Faris Al-Arabee intersection in the area of the study. The main results of the analysis denoted that Al-Faris Al-Arabee intersection operates under F level of service, where the average control delay during the morning and evening peak hours were 393.3 and 626.0 sec/veh, respectively. The through movements of Damascus Street (Major Direction) are the heaviest volumes of traffic in Al-Faris Al-Arabee intersection. Due to the abovementioned reasons, there is an importance for enhancing the efficiency of Al-Faris Al-Arabee intersection via using flyover to serve the through movements in Damascus Street and the construction of an underpass at Al-Mansour street will result in releasing traffic volume in Al-Faris Al-Arabee intersection about 50 %. Post adopting the suggested geometrical design, it is going to operate at LOS B and LOS D in the design year (2039). The suggested roadway (i.e. underpass) needed a number of lanes which equals 3 lanes while number of lanes of the flyover equals two lanes for every side of the main approach of the intersection.
Analysis of Traffic Operation for AL-Kafa’at Signalized Intersection in Al-Kut City

Traffic Studies Aims (Traffic analysis) to estimate some of the important indicators to determine the level of service (LOS) at intersections in the cities. That's where the increase in traffic volumes at intersections is one of the main problems that make traffic in this difficult intersections and which rise to congestion in these areas. The objective of this research is to evaluate the operational capacity of intersection (AL-Kafa'at) in AL-Kut city and show better proposals to improve the performance in terms of capacity. To achieve these objectives traffic information has been collected using digital camera to various directions for the purposes of analysis and traffic engineering while HCS traffic program is used for the purposes of traffic analysis process. The operational analysis of the existing conditions of this intersection indicates that the LOS is (F) with an intersection delay value of 105.1 sec. /vehicle .Because of the reasons above, it is important to enhance the performance of AL-Kafa'at Intersection by increasing number of lane to right turn for Alhaidariya Approach The results indicate that the intersection LOS is hanged to (D) with a cycle time of 91 sec. and an intersection delay of 38.1 sec. /vehicle.
Evaluation and Improvement of Signalized Intersections in Amman City in Jordan
The main objective of this study is to evaluate and improve the traffic operations at the signalized intersections in Amman city in Jordan. Wadi-Saqra signalized intersection was chosen for this study. This intersection is located in the western central part of Amman the capital of Jordan. It has heavy traffic volume, with higher delay and heavy congestion traffic more than any other similar intersections in Amman. In this study, the intersection is analyzed as an isolated signalized intersection by using HCM (Highway Capacity Manual) and HCS (Highway Capacity System) computer program. Synchro computer program is also used for improvement through optimization process. The geometric, traffic and signalized data were collected during the morning and afternoon peak time periods. The results indicated that the current delay is 473 sec/veh with Level of Service F (LOS-F). Four alternatives are recommended to solve the current and future problems. The recommended alternatives are: 1. Prohibit left turning at all approaches. 2. Optimization of the existing traffic signals. 3. Construct one through overpass for one direction. 4. Construct two overpasses or one overpass and tunnel for two directions. The first three alternatives will not be able to reduce the level of service significantly. On the other hand, the fourth alternative will reduce the level of service from LOS F with (473 sec/veh) delay to level of service LOS C with (27 sec/veh) delay and will change the cycle length from 190 seconds to 90 seconds. The estimated initial cost of constructing two overpasses is about thirty million Jordan Dinars JD with annual saving of more than eight million JD. If alternative four was selected to solve the existing situation the following advantages can be attained: reducing the congestion on the signalized intersection especially during peak hours, reducing the cost of traveling for the public, increasing the efficiency of the road network, increasing safety, reducing the maintenance cost of the roads, improving traffic flow and traffic operations, and reducing air pollution and preserving the environment.

Baghdad city, the capital of Iraq has mainly suffered from influences of transportation highway modes especially at intersections. Traffic management system TMS leads to improve the level of service LOS of the intersections by reducing traffic congestion, delay and time wasted during travel. This research studied the improving of TMS for deactivated Al-Faris Al-Arabi signalized roundabout that considered the important area near city center. Traffic data collected manually by group of engineers during March and April, 2018. Highway Capacity Software HCS2010 used to assess and improve the TMS for current and future forecasted flow. Results showed that roundabout operating on LOS F with a high delay of time and saturation flow. Three solutions proposed to improve the traffic conditions considering of modifying the geometric features with changing and optimizing the timing plan of traffic signals. It showed a highly improving in LOS from F to B, improving saturation flow to less than one and reducing in delay time to about 43 times of that at existing conditions. In addition to analysis results, 18 years has been expected to carry the future forecasted data. Finally, architectural model has been achieved to display the pre and post improvement of the study area.
