Moral development is one of the most important events of the process of socialization in life span of an individual and it is through moral development, that an individual becomes an identifiable part of the society. Day to day human interactions and interpersonal activities involves a number of moral decisions and moral information processing in the mind. Moral information processing in the human mind is influenced by various factors and the personality traits are one of the major factors that have a detrimental influence on moral competency. Moral competency is the measure of the consistency of moral behavior of a person and moral behavior is the behavioral response to a moral stimulus or situation which is generally considered as ‘right’ or ‘good’. The big five personality traits are studied to have significant influence on the moral reasoning and moral judgment and the present study explores the relation between each of the five personality traits with moral competency in the selected sample of Indian youth. Present study infers that there is a significant relation between Extraversion, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness of the big five personality traits with Moral Competency.

Moral Competence, Personality, and Demographic Characteristics: A Comparative Study
Ethics in Progress, 2016
The development of moral competence is affected by both internal and external factors and has been researched by many scientists. The present study investigated a) whether the five factors of personality, gender and geographical area would affect ones’ moral competence, b) whether the personality factors Openness to Experience, Conscientiousness and Agreeableness would be correlated positively with moral competence in everyday life, whereas Extraversion and Neuroticism would be correlated negatively with morality, c) if there will be differences in students’ moral competence exhibited in everyday life and that expressed in PE/sports framework and d) whether type of school, factors of personality, as well as moral competence exhibited in sports-framework would all be significant factors for the interpretation of a student’s moral competence. The sample consisted of 331 junior high students (7th and 8th graders) (Mage = 12.47, SD = 0.740), who were given the Moral Competence Test Greek Version (Mouratidou et al. 2003), the Moral Judgment Test in Physical Education(Mouratidou et al. 2008), and the Inventory of Child Individual Differences (Besevegkis & Pavlopoulos 1998). The results indicated that of the five-factor personality model only Conscientiousness can affect moral reasoning ability in everyday life and that the type of school can account for less than 5% of variance when predicting moral competence in high school students.

Ethical decision-making is one of the most important elements for organizations to continue their lives. Personality traits and moods of individuals play a very active role in ethical decision making. There are many variables that affect this process. This study consists of national and international literature review. Within the framework of the research, personality traits and mood were discussed as variables affecting the process. In addition, research results on the effects of demographic variables such as age, gender, education and experience on ethical decision making were also compiled. As a result of the literature review, it is possible to say that personality traits and mood variables affect each other. In particular, there is a positive relationship between the dimension of extroversion and positive emotional states. There is a significant and positive relationship between openness to experience, extraversion and agreeable personality dimensions and ethical decision making. While the impact of positive emotions on ethical decision-making is well supported, the effect of negative emotions and the direction of this effect consist of ambiguous and contradictory results. Although the effect of demographic characteristics in the ethical decision-making process varies, the personality traits and mood of individuals play a very clear and important role in this process.
Moral structure and moral content: Their relationship to personality
Journal of Youth and Adolescence, 1978
The relationship between personality as embodied in the moral content of the Survey of Ethical Attitudes (SEA) and moral structure as measured by the Kohlberg Moral Judgment Interview (MJI) was investigated using 99 male college students. No relationship was found between scores on the SEA and Moral Maturity Scores on the MJI, although this finding was qualified by the fact that the MJ1 Scores for most students were restricted to Kohlberg's conventional range of morality. However, SEA scores were significantly correlated with the Moral Orientation scores obtained from the MJI. In contrast to scores on the SEA, scores on the MJ1 were significantly related to age. The problem of confusing content and structure in moral development research was explored. The theoretical implications of a personality component being involved in choice of moral orientation were discussed as well.
The Perceived Personality of Moral Exemplars
Http Dx Doi Org 10 1080 030572499103188, 2010
Contemporary moral psychology and education overemphasise rationality and neglect moral virtues and personality that must be part of a comprehensive understanding of moral functioning. The purpose of this study was to delineate the perceived personality characteristics of moral exemplars using the template of the Five-Factor Model which represents the fundamental dimensions of personality, and to compare that trait description with those for related types of exemplars. Participants were 120 adults from across the lifespan (17± 91 years) who provided free-listing descriptions of moral, religious and spiritual exemplars, which were then analysed in terms of the ® ve personality factors. Results revealed meaningful differences in personality attributions across types of exemplars, and indicated that traits re¯ecting the Conscientiousness and Agreeableness factors were particularly salient for the moral exemplar. Discussion focuses on the value of a re-examination of moral character and virtue, and the need to integrate moral cognition and personality within a realistic model of moral functioning and education.

The study examined the predictive strengths of extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, emotional stability and openness dimensions of the Big Five personality for moral judgement of children. The study selected three hundred thirty children with an equal number of males (M = 10.01, SD = 0.86) and females (M = 9.99, SD = 0.90) with age ranging from 7 years to 11 years. The Big Five Questionnaire-Children (Barbaranelli, Caprara, Rabasca, & Pastorelli, 2003) and the Moral Judgement Test (Sinha, & Verma, 1971) were used to measure personality and moral judgement of children, respectively. It was observed that the female children exhibited significantly higher mean scores on conscientiousness dimension of personality and moral judgement as compared the male participants. Contrarily, the mean scores of extraversion, agreeableness, emotional stability and openness dimensions of personality did not evince significant gender differences. Irrespective of gender, the scores on predictors and criterion measures of children again evinced significant positive correlations. The results of hierarchical regression analysis exhibited that gender, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness accounted for 3.70%, 11.50%, 11.80% and 16.40% variations in the scores of moral judgement, respectively. The study recorded an important contribution of Big Five personality in understanding the moral judgement of children. The findings carry theoretical and practical implications for researchers, parents, teachers and educational policymakers. The directions for future research have also been given.
The Impact of Gender Role and Personality on Moral Orientation
This study examines the discriminators of moral orientation in term of Masculinity and Femininity (gender role), age, the education level and the personality traits, in an investigation of their contribution in the overall process of moral decision making. The sample of study consisted on (N=300) undergraduates students of various business institutes of Pakistan. Participants were connected through the questionnaires, of which 172 were returned and processed. The finding of the study suggests that personality characteristics of judging and intuition are more strongly related with justice orientation. Moreover, the perceiving and sensing characteristics were more strongly related with care orientation while the gender role (Masculinity and femininity) was having a very less contribution in the overall analysis. Further, the results showed that moral orientation is less differentiated by gender roles but strongly differentiated by the characteristics of the personality, and age, education variables were seen as moderate contributors in the analysis.
