In this paper some historiographical details connected with dugout discoveries and studies at the Voronezh and Bryansk regions are discussed. The current study is based mainly on archive documents kept at the Department of Written Sources of the State Historical Museum (personal archives of M.Y. Foss and A.Y. Brussov), on the field report of V.A. Afonyushkin, and on the data from the personal archive of V.F. Kulinchenko.
