Antes da luz elétrica: a iluminação artificial na cidade de São Paulo durante o Império, por meio de notícias e anúncios de jornal.Parte 3 (original) (raw)
In this paper we will review the various lighting systems adopted in the city of São Paulo, Brazil, throughout the nineteenth century, from the earliest forms of lighting to various types of candles, lamps and chandeliers. We will also examine the different types of fuel then employed: oil, turpentine, kerosene and lighting gas for buildings and streets, paying particular attention to the questionable and hostile performance of the English gas company, which occasionally created conflicts with the people of São Paulo and the provincial government.
