BUSINESS ETHICS AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILILTY IN POLAND: A CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS
This paper describes the current status and concepts of business ethics and corporate social responsibility in Poland compared to the United States and Western Europe. It uses an eight-part framework, consisting of history, political structures, religion, social norms, civil society strengths, level of economic development, geographical considerations, and health and "safety net" issues, to explain the differences and the reasons why CSR and business ethics are developing as they are in Poland.

The article is a review of issues connected with business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the last 20 years. Two decades have passed since the Sixth Polish Philosophical Congress took place in Toruń, where—for the first time in the history of Polish philosophical conventions—business ethics was recognized as a philosophical sub-discipline. It manifested itself in a special subsection of the Congress devoted to the topic, which was also kept at the next congress meetings. The paper is not a full review and most likely is not free from subjectivism. This is partly due to the fact that the subject matter falls within the scope of the philosophy of practicality—as the author interprets and refers to the philosophical system of Tadeusz Kotarbiński.

In companies, it is necessary to set boundaries and norms of conduct, to supervise their implementation, and to implement them consistently through the efforts of a manager who has an impact on the activities of his employees. The research goal is to identify employee views on the implementation of ethical principles in the company, as well as to define the role of a manager in this process. A hypothesis has been formulated: in the surveyed enterprises, managers apply ethical principles resulting from ethical codes binding in the company, known to everyone. The conclusions of the primary study on a group of employees forced the hypothesis to be rejected. They also showed that ethical principles are created based on a manager’s instructions or based on management/owner guidelines, and the ethical aspect is an important element of a good manager’s work. The application of appropriate rules may affect the functioning of the enterprise.
Polish Research on Accounting Ethics. Predominating Trends and Pioneering Approaches

Literature overview presented in this paper aims to identify and explore the main trends and pioneering approaches in Polish scientific literature on accounting ethics. Predominant approach can be characterized as: applied, empiric, praxis-oriented, legallybased and accountant-focused. Research is carried out by scientists specializing in accounting. The main trends are: focusing on two professions (accountant and financial auditor), and two spheres: book-keeping and financial statements, interpreting accounting ethics from practical point of view, as applied ethics, limiting accounting ethics to legal aspects and professional codes.

This special issue focuses on the developments in ethical standards in the post-communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) including the former Soviet Union. Over thirty years have elapsed since the demise of the Soviet Bloc and, despite some common institutional features, the societies have had very different experiences with uneven developments across the region since the collapse of communism. In this special issue, the authors explore business and management ethics situated within the context of the challenges that face these still transforming post-communist societies. The papers cover a range of issues and countries including Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia. Potential further avenues for research are identified in the field of business ethics in post-communist societies.
A Descriptive Study on Business Ethics

Ethics in Business has gained momentum over the last few decades with the advent of competition. A decade ago competition was relatively low. However, with the increase in struggle at an alarming rate, some business organizations are resorting to unethical practices which are ultimately harming the human kind and their values. There is a growing realisation all over the world that ethics is very essential for any business to grow. Ethics and business go together; it means if there are good ethics, there is good business. Even the government of every nation across the world is stressing upon business corporate to be ethical and follow ethical practices. "In law a man is guilty when he violates the rights of others, but in ethics, he is guilty if he only thinks of doing so." Hence, higher education must pay more attention to helping students understand how to lead ethical lives. The aim of this study is to investigate the common sources of ethics and to understand the impact of business ethics over the organization as well on the nation by analysing its pros and cons.
Developing Business Ethics as an Academic Field in Romania

This article introduces a number of important issues regarding ethical behavior and practices in small and medium enterprises in Romania in relation to the development of business ethics as an academic field. As a starting point, a research project was formed from the results of an online survey conducted within 850 companies, illustrating managers´ general perceptions related to the most important factors that influence ethical practices in Romanian companies. Since two of the most common answer options were: (a) managers' conduct and their personal values and (b) employees' features: level of education and professional expertise; the second section of this paper will analyze the response of the academic field regarding this need. Based on the premise that today's students will be tomorrow's managers and employees, this study is intended to produce a deeper understanding of the role of moral character in Economic activity, as well as to identify ways in which moral character development can be promoted. Thereby, this paper analyzes if Romanian universities have settled, as an educational target, the development of moral reasoning and behavior of their students.

Having in mind that many professions in modern business conditions abound in introduction of the code of ethics, International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) has been prepared the Code of Ethics for Professional Accountants. Since the collapse of big companies and inadequate reliability ratings of financial statements by major auditing companies, the issue of the quality of the financial statements, which serve as the basis for all business decisions and ultimately direct the development of each company, comes to the fore. The paper aims to show the impact of business ethics, and moral dilemmas to the level of quality of financial reporting. "Following rules of activity, resulting from ethical norms accepted in given society, may be one of sources of a competitive advantage. Though, it can be presumed that not everybody is aware of the necessity as well as of advantages connected with activity running this way. In this aspect, the aim of the article to show Polish businessmen attitude towards challenges flowing from handling business in accord with ethics. All theoretical issues discussed herein pertain to the topic of business ethics. Empirical data presented in this paper were gathered by the authors during 410 interviews about ethics that were conducted with businessmen running small and middle firms. The main intention was to determine if obeying ethic rules is a real value for entrepreneurs. From obtained results the conclusion, that Polish businessmen declare the importance of ethics in their activity, but in practice the bulk of them does not remember any rules and does not recognize ethics as a footing of business, can be draw out. Business Ethics and Organizational Values in Romanian Enterprises

Business ethics has been subject to so many studies in the contemporary literature. Being a type of human activity, business om the economic efficiency perspective. The goal of our qualitative study is to reveal the relationship between the ethical values and the organizational culture. It is based on a survey of 148 subjects, managers and employees who work in companies in the regional business environment of Romania, in the Mures County. We have reached a main conclusion: the implementation of ethical values is connected, through the organizational culture, to the size of the enterprise. Big companies are more likely to elaborate written ethical codes within a strategic vision and their employees acknowledge this aspect, compared with small enterprises and their workers.
