This study was carried out in a agricultural, industrial, domestic and slaughterhouse discharging region (around Büyükmangıt Village) of Ceyhan River and just under the dam's crest of Aslantaş (Osmaniye) founded on the same river in the summer season of 2004. Water temperature, chemical oxygen demand (COD), pH, nitrate-nitrogen (NO3-N), nitrite-nitrogen (NO2-N), ammonia nitrogen (NH3-N), and soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) values in these two stations were determined to the comparative effects of possible differences of water quality on haematological parameters. Forty fish were caught monthly from each station. Erythrocyte, leucocyte, haemoglobine (Hb), leucocyte cell (lymphocyte, monocyte, neutrophil, eosinophil) proportions and sizes of these cells of the fish were compared for two stations. As regard to water quality parameters, Station II was found in contaminated. Moreover, 75% of fish from Station II were found to be infested by swim bladder parasite Anguillicola crassus. In the study, leucocyte values and neutrophil proportion were found increased by means of environmental stressors (P<0.05).
Studies of the hemoglobins of the eel (Anguilla anguilla L.)—I
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1980
Stripped eel erythrolysate shows low buffer capacity, similar to the low buffer capacity of whole eel blood. 2. O2 and CO binding at 100 kPa each shows a high fixed-acid Haldane effect, though lower in the case of O2 binding where the saturation is incomplete due to the Root effect. 3. GTP, ATP and IHP have little effect on the CO-induced fixed-acid Haldane effect. 4. Generally two, in few cases three, main eel hemoglobin components were isolated: HbE, and HbE, (the latter being the Root effect hemoglobin). 5. Spectra of deoxy, oxy and carboxy derivatives of these hemoglobins are very similar, though slightly red-shifted in HbE, with respect to HbEi. 6. HbE, and HbE2 contain 0 and 6 titratable sulphhydryl groups respectively.

Present work was carried out in order to find out some seasonal variables on some blood parameters of Schizothorax plagiostomus caught from the world-famous River lidder (Pahalgam Kashmir, India). Effects of the independent variables e.g., sex, weight and length values were determined seasonally. Analysis revealed that highest number of leukocytes was found in spring and lowest number was found in winter. Hemoglobin and Haematocrit values were highest during the months of summer and lowest during winter. It was also seen that Males were having greater values for hemoglobin and Haematocrit than females, whereas total leukocyte count in females was higher than males. It was also found that there was a positive correlation between Length/weight and Hemoglobin and Haematocrit values where as a negative correlation between length or weight and Total leukocyte counts.

The use and validation of fish health monitoring tools have become increasingly evident due to aquaculture expansion. This study investigated the hematology and blood morphometrics of Piaractus mesopotamicus, Brycon orbignyanus, Oreochromis niloticus and Rhamdia quelen. The fish were kept for 30 days in 300-liter aquariums, after which they were anesthetized with benzocaine and blood was collected from caudal vessels. In comparison to other species, B. orbignyanus presented the highest hematocrit (Ht), RBC averages and Mean Corpuscular Volume (MCV) with a particular range of data. B. orbignyanus presented lower Ht, Hb, RBC averages and values, and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC). Oreochromis niloticus presented lower Ht, Hb, RBC averages and values, and Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration (MCHC). Rhamdia quelen and O. niloticus presented higher variation of White Blood Cells (WBC), neutrophils (Nf), lymphocytes (Lf), monocytes (Mf) and thrombocytes (Trb). Data...

This study is conducted to examine the impacts of different rearing temperature and diet variation on haematological and serum biochemical parameters on the juvenile Lutjanus malabaricus, a commercially important fish species in Malaysia. Fish (16-18 cm) were divided into eight treatments (4 temperatures × 2 diets) each with three replicates of five juveniles each. Fish were subjected to four different rearing temperatures (22, 26, 30 and 34°C) and fed with a commercial pellet and a natural shrimp diet. After 30 days of experimental period, blood samples were collected and transferred into two different tubes from each sample: One containing EDTA as an anticoagulant agent and the other without EDTA for serum collection. All the haematological and biochemical parameters in all the treatments were within the normal range. Changing temperature and diet led to a significant change (p<0.05) in the total length (TL), body weight (BW), red blood cell (RBC), haemoglobin (HB), haematocrit (HC), thrombocyte (TC) and white blood cell (WBC) but the change in mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean cell haemoglobin (MCH) while mean cell haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were not significant (p>0.05). The fish reared at 26°C and 30°C had significantly higher values than those reared at 22°C and 34°C (p<0.05). Total protein (TP), albumin (ALB), albumin/globin ration (A/G ratio), alkaline phosphatase (AP), aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and alanine transaminase (ALT) level were also significantly increased at 30°C and 26°C compared to that of 34°C and 22°C. Globulin (GLB) level showed the opposite trend. In all the cases the performances were higher in shrimp diet than pellet diet. It is suggested that these physiological parameters can be conveniently employed as health monitoring tools in fish culture practices.
The regression coefficient for Macrognathus aral juveniles and males were found to be lower than '3' indicating negative allometric pattern of growth where as in females it was greater than '3' suggesting positive allometric growth. Total body weight shows positive increase with total length in both male and female fishes. Different morphometric features like head length, snout length, dorsal fin length, pre dorsal length shows positive correlation with total length. Condition factor values in both male and female specimens gradually decreased before spawning season and start to increase again after the spawning season is over. Hepatosomatic index in female specimens attains peak value before spawning season and then shows a gradual decrease with the onset of spawning period.
