Epidemiological data on gingivitis in children are important for understanding the natural course of the disease, identifying its risk factors, and predicting its time trends. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and severity of gingivitis among 6- and 12-year-old school children in Dhamar city, Yemen. A total of 663 children (310 children of 6 years old and 353 children of 12 years old) were examined from 10 public primary schools. Gingival health status was assessed using the plaque index (PI), calculus index (CI), and gingival index (GI) on the six Ramfjord teeth. The latter index was used to categorize gingivitis severity at the subject level. Data were analyzed using independent f-test, chi-squared test, and Spearman's correlation. A p-value of < 0.05 was considered significant. Both age groups had high mean of PI and GI with nonsignificant difference. The 12-year-old children had calculus deposits much higher than the 6-year-old group with signific...

Children and adolescents are often affected by a variety of periodontal diseases and conditions. Gingivitis, if it occurs at an early age, tends to increase in its severity and finally peaks at the onset of puberty. However untreated gingival diseases in childhood, may progress to severe forms of periodontal diseases in adulthood. There have been many studies over the years which have analysed the character and factors affecting the distribution of carious lesions no similar measures have been implemented for gingivitis and periodontitis in pediatric dentistry. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the association between gender, age and gingivitis among children between 6-10 years of age visiting Saveetha Dental College. A retrospective study was carried out using digital records of patients who reported to the Department of Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry from June 2019 to March 2020. A total of 103 patients between ages of 6-10 years were finally included for the study evaluation. The age, gender and gingival status were observed from the digital records and tabulated on a spreadsheet. The collected data was analysed by computer software SPSS version 20 using Chi square test with the level of significance set at 5%. It was observed that around 46% of the participants had gingivitis. There was no significant association between gender and age and gingival status (p>0.05). Within limits of the study it can be concluded that there is high prevalence of gingivitis among pediatric patients, but there is no significant variation in gingival status by age and gender.

Gingivitis is the inflammation of soft tissues without the migration or movement of the junctional epithelium in an apical direction. Characteristics of the conditions include redness, edema and bleeding gums. Gingivitis on prolonged duration leads to the formation of periodontitis.height. Several epidemiological studies on gingivitis and periodontitis has been conducted in various parts of India by dental professional. These epidemiological studies are helpful in planning and implementation of oral health programs. Moreover assessments of gingivitis and periodontitis in early stage will reduce the chance of tooth loss. Therefore, the aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of gingivitis and periodontal diseases among children aged between 6-12 years paediatric population. It was a retrospective study. Case sheets of 1596 pediatric patients reported to the Institution were reviewed. Information on the patient's age, gender, periodontal findings were collected from the electronic system in the college. The data are collected via the electronic database and compiled in an excel sheet. Incomplete or repeated patient records were excluded from the study.

The aim of the study was to overview the gingival and periodontal disease in children and adolescents aged 12 to 15 years in Belgaum city. Visible plaque, gingival bleeding, supragingival and subgingival calculus and periodontal pockets were measured. Examination of buccal, lingual and mesial areas of each tooth was recorded sequentially in both arches using Gingivitis and Periodontitis Site Prevalence Index (WHO, 1978). The prevalence of gingival and periodontal disease was more in males than females and in Hindu population compared to others. The sites affected by gingivitis and periodontitis increased with the age. Periodontal problems were significantly more prevalent in patients with betel nut chewing habit. Visible plaque was most common while periodontal pockets were least common in the adolescents. Age, socioeconomic status, brushing habits and brushing frequency did not affect much to the prevalence of sites of gingivitis and periodontal disease. It was concluded that early...

Children and adolescents are subjected to various gingival infections. Chronic gingivitis is one of most common periodontal diseases affecting the children. Dental plaque is the major cause of gingivitis. However, it gets aggravated due to various secondary factors. Hormonal changes occurring during puberty cause enormous reaction in the inflamed gingiva. Dental practitioners have an important role in early recognition and diagnosis of gingival and periodontal diseases to improve the treatment outcome. Hence, the objective of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of gingivitis during circumpubertal periods in the age group of 18-20. A retrospective study was conducted. Data collection was done through reviewing records of 86000 patients visiting a hospital in Chennai from June(2019) to March(2020) A total of 37 patients who reported with gingivitis with their complete data were evaluated. Data such as age, gender, gingival index, plaque index were noted. Both frequency and Chi-square tests were done through IBM SPSS statistical analysis. Among the study population, 70.27% were males and 29.73% were females. About 24.32% of the patients were affected with severe gingivitis and 13.51% of the patients were reported with poor oral hygiene. Within the limits of this study, the prevalence of gingivitis during circumpubertal period is high in the age group of 18-20. Long term oral healthcare programme is highly recommended.

Objective: This research focused on the frequency of gingivitis and its associated factors between the age group of 16–60-year-old patients. Study Design: Cross sectional study Study Setting: This study was conducted at department of Dentistry Avicenna Medical & Dental College Hospital Lahore from April 2022 to September 2022. Methodology: In the present study, a non-probability/convenient sampling technique was used. The 115 patients who had a gingival index scoring from 1-3 were included in the study. Patients with no plaques were excluded from the study. The WHO oral health assessment with some modifications was included as a par...
