Malocclusion is one of the common problems in all parts of the world. Malocclusion varies according to genetic, environment, and race. Morphological and functional occlusion have a role as contributing factors in the development of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). TMD is a generic term for a number of clinical signs and symptoms involving the masticatory muscles. TMD can manifest as pain in muscles and temporomandibular joint, pain during jaw movement, limited range of jaw motions, and also auscultatory symptoms. In some studies, TMD was associated with posterior crossbite, Angle Class II malocclusion, anterior open bite and extreme maxillary overjet. This paper will discussed about criteria of the malocclusion and its role as contributing factors in the development of TMD.
