Capability Assessment toward Sustainable Development of Business Incubators: Framework and Experience Sharing

Sustainability, 2021

Business incubators have been widely developed to advise, support, promote, and provide a nurturing environment for new business start-ups and entrepreneurs. The development of a framework for capability assessment allows the management of each incubator to understand its strengths and room for further improvement. Moreover, assessment results across a community, such as a nation or state, can provide insights into resource allocation and various management policies so that policymakers can support the development of business incubators under their supervision. This article describes the development of a capability assessment framework for business incubators (BIs) in Thailand. A case study demonstrating how the capability assessment is analyzed is also presented in the article.

Business Success Factors Within Business Incubators, Validation of the Research Tool (Factores De Éxito Empresarial Dentro De Las Incubadoras De Empresas, Validación De La Herramienta De Investigación)

ENERO-JUNIO 2021

In its first stage, it consists in the theoretical review of the factors that give entrepreneurs a competitive advantage in Business Success such as: Coaching, Business Linking, Digital Social Networks and the Entrepreneur Profile. Therefore, the theoretical justification of these factors and the construction and validation of the instrument are presented. A questionnaire of 51 questions was made and to test its reliability it was applied to 30 study subjects. Using the SPSS, the instrument was validated with Cronbach's alpha factors that show reliable values between .700 and .900 and a final questionnaire was obtained with 46 questions. This work provides a theoretical and methodological contribution to support business success.

2011

Governments play a basic role in making policies, programs and instruments that support the development of micro, small and medium enterprises in both developed and developing countries. This paper intends to pinpoint the influencing factors in Technology Business Incubator’s effectiveness and their explanatory model. Therefore, among 56 Technology Business Incubators in Iran, 32 active incubators were selected and by stratified random sampling, 528 start-ups were chosen. The validity of research questionnaires was determines by expert consensus, item analysis and factor analysis; and their reliability calculated by Cronbachs' alpha. Data analysis was then made through statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) and linear structural relations (LISREL) soft wares. Both organizational procedures and entrepreneurial behaviors were the meaningful mediators. INNOVATION CAPABILITY INDICATORS FOR ENTREPRENEURS DEVELOPED THE BUSINESS FROM THAI UNIVERSITY INCUBATOR

Journal of Southwest Jiaotong University, 2020

This research aimed to study and develop the innovation capability indicators for entrepreneurs who created their businesses from public universities' incubators in Thailand. This study applied the inductive research method using critical analysis; the sample included 202 entrepreneurs' variables related to Confirmatory Factor Analysis to find the model's concordance and empirical data. The entrepreneurs who developed their businesses from incubators of universities in Thailand had the innovation capability for business management through the following factors: the change and management development process at lower costs to achieve more efficient management, the novel/innovative product development process to the market, the perceived product enhancement process through new and modern channels, and the use of contemporary digital convergence for innovation capability construction to further take advantage of business competition. The research results and contributions revealed that the measurement model of innovation capability developed from the three main factors: process innovation capability, product innovation capability, and market innovation capability, leading to value synergistic business creation and directed innovation.

Innovative Capacity and the Performance of Businesses Incubated in University Incubator Units: Empirical Study from Universities in Thailand

Journal of Open Innovation: Technology, Market, and Complexity

Furthermore, an analysis of the relationships between the factors found that entrepreneurial orientation had positive rel...

Application of Importance and Performance Matrix to Assess the Quality of Services Provided by Business Incubators

REGEPE - Revista de Empreendedorismo e Gestão de Pequenas Empresas, 2018

The purpose of this article is to demonstrate the use of importance and performance matrix in assessing the quality of services provided by incubators. It is a descriptive research and it uses a qualitative approach. The research design is a case study, based on interviews with four entrepreneurs from the same incubator. It also uses a documental analysis from the public notice selection of the incubates used by this incubator. The dimensions of the services provided by incubators (infrastructure, professional services and network) and the attributes of these dimensions were selected based on previous studies. These attributes were used in the construction of the interview script and results analysis, aided by qualitative data analysis software for researchers, called NVivo® from QSR International Pty Ltd. The coding was developed based on 146 citations from interviews. High importance was attached to the infrastructure, which was evaluated as excellent. The professional services have received less importance, but they need to be improved. Despite the importance attached to the network, no robust actions were reported by the incubator. The analysis of clusters (or groupings) resulted in a group with hardware companies and another with software companies, resulting in two importance and performance matrixes being built. These matrices suggest the improvement of incubator performance in promotional activities to internal and external network. For hardware developers, access to laboratories is added. The study contributes to investigate the quality of services offered by incubators, especially when using importance and performance matrix.

Measuring the performance of business incubators: A critical analysis of effectiveness approaches and performance measurement systems

Utilizing performance measurement theories, we critically examine performance measurement literature in the business incubator domain. Papers are identified and selected by examining peer-reviewed journals in entrepreneurship and small business research, publisher-independent databases, and an own literature review. Results are discussed both at the individual and the system level. At the individual level, existing performance measures are examined using the goal, stakeholder, internal process and system resource approach. At the system level, incubator performance measurement systems are evaluated using Tangen's (2004) output prerequisites. Building upon our findings, the contributions for managers, policy makers, educators and (future) researchers are discussed.
