The Effectiveness of Communication Skills on Educatiom (original) (raw)

Although schooling rates increase, it does not help with the disintegration problem. The whole world seems to be in opposing groups fighting and making wars. Everybody is putting the blame on others. Communication in real terms is no more effective. According to Kuhn cycle, this sustainability problem of the world cannot be solved unless there is a paradigm shift. Improving one’s autonomy and forming nurturing relationships with his/her community is essential for meeting one’s needs. Immediately after birth one starts crying. The first needs are for air and milk. Crying here is the effective communication to bond with the mother and with the environment in order to meet the need for food and air. All the units in the organic system are connected and serve to meet one another’s need. Every unit in the natural system has a unique position, a certain autonomy but is integrated with the rest of the nature. This is well described in cybernetics within the context of the general system theory. Since experiences differ due to the fact that everyone has unique learning environments, unique learning styles, unique talents and challenges, perception for everyone is subjective. Education is expected to support people to recognize themselves, realize their real needs in order to support them gain autonomy preserving their authenticity (diversity) and enhance their relatedness (integrity). This relatedness is built upon the needs of the parties just like the permeable membranes. Effective communication is essential for clearing the information channels so that the person perceive better the reality. This is important for both sides of existence: 1) to govern one’s life; 2) to fulfil its unique position via relatedness creating his own meaning in the natural web of life. iii Mostly the education system today is in the form of pouring information. Since students cannot learn in a constructive way, they memorize and then they forget the unused information in a short time. This system negatively effects the authenticity of the students offsetting their natural learning which involves critical thinking, problem solving and imagination. And also this industrialized system does not take into account the uniqueness of the children. Their interests, their talents and their own challenges and problems don’t count in this system. Communication changed places with dictation and imposing in this system. The mass society of today is merely a product of the educational system. A dangerous product of the educational system which aims at controlling human behaviour and making the free will, the right to choose, critical thinking, imagination and even the inspiration impotent, abolishing the autonomy of the people. Due to urbanization, over specialization, technology and internet, the mass society became such a media where people lost their habitat and are no more organically webbed. Japan made a society projection and planning in order to overcome the threat on the naturalization of the human kind. This society 5.0 model puts the humans in the core and concentrates on empowerment of humans and natural communities. As for education, the model is supporting critical thinking, enhancing communication and reading skills favouring a multidisciplinary education. The new education model offered in this thesis, “self-centred education” can work as a set up for society 5.0 supporting organic revolution. Organic should be the name of a ‘state of mind’ as not separating ourselves from other natural entities and calls flourishing relationships starting from the close circle-ourselves, our family, our class mats, our neighbours, and our natural habitat. Self-cantered approach in iv education supports to uncover the unique potentials of the people through effective communication. Promoting the autonomy of the people and supporting the relatedness of the humans will be the core objectives of this new education model. This constructive model is transdisciplinary, self-directed and holistic in approach. Here the curriculum is the person himself and his own environment. Eco-system approach is valid in the sense that students, teachers, parents and community together form the learning environment. The main role of the teacher is to trigger what is inside. For example, teachers will not teach optic anymore but trigger the curiosity of the children to explore about their own eyes. The world needs real people with free will, imagination and inspiration. Real people who can see the integrated parts of the reality heading together to the mutual goal of environmental sustainability. As already stated above organic should be a state of mind as not separating one’s self from other natural entities and calls for cherishing relationships between one’s own self and his own habitat. Self-cantered education proposed in this thesis is an answer for the paradigm shift called for the sustainability problem in Kuhn’s cycle.
