The legitimacy of rank reversal (original) (raw)

This work addresses critiques of rank reversal raised by Belton and Gear, specifically focusing on the preservation of rank among alternatives in decision-making processes. It provides a counterexample to their proposed method, discusses the legitimacy of rank reversal, and emphasizes the importance of context in formulating decision-related questions. The authors argue that with the right hierarchical approach and group input, consistent and meaningful judgments can be achieved, even when introducing new alternatives.
