This paper presents a marble slab from the Archaeological Museum of Izmir in western Turkey, which was published by Anastasios K. Orlandos in 1937 and its inscription was reconsidered by Georg Petzl in 1990. Its epigraphy mentions a formerly unknown bishop, Euethios, who was probably the bishop of Smyrna during the Early Byzantine period. On this occasion, a brief review of the depiction of two peacocks flanking a vase in the marble architectural sculpture of Byzantine Asia Minor is presented, in order to assign a more concise date for the slab from Izmir. An accompanying catalogue with several examples of peacocks' depictions from Asia Minor was made and a marble plate with a peacock depiction from Skopje, Macedonia is also included. Authors' contribution. In this article Ergün Laflı gives a detailed description of this inscribed plate which is a valuable historical document, while Maurizio Buora analyses its inscription and makes its epigraphic assessment as well as a systematic examination of the iconography of peacocks in the marble architectural sculpture of Byzantine Asia Minor through over thirty examples in Turkish museums.

Fragments from a Late-Byzantine Artophorion
The Walters Art Museum in Baltimore possesses a fourteenth-century Byzantine relief panel (acc. no. 61.115) which the museum's founder Henry Walters bought from the French dealer Léon Gruel in 1929. The panel, carved in boxwood, measures 24 × 7.5 cm. Its central part depicts the Ascension of Christ and His Baptism. In the latter, two figures at Jesus' feet personify the Sea (left) and the River Jordan (right); this is a reference to Psalm 113/114:3, 'The sea saw it and fled; Jordan was driven back'. 1 Each scene is accompanied by a distich: Λ[όχο]ς μαθητῶν, ἀετιδ[εὺς μὴ] νόθος, 2 τὸν ἥλιον βλέπουσι 3 Χ(ριστὸ)ν ὀξέως. Like true eagles seeing the sun in all its brightness, The apostles watch the rising of Our Savior. Τὸν δεσπότην βάπτισον, ὦ Ζαχαρίου, καὶ μὴ παραιτοῦ• παγγενοῦς πλήσει ῥύπου. Baptize Our Lord, O son of Zachariah, And do not beg off: 4 He will fill with everyone's filth. 5 On the adjoining colonette, the three upper frames contain busts of Prophet Elisha, Saint John Chrysostom and Prophet Michah, while the three lower ones have images of Prophet Haggai, Saint Theodore the General (Stratelates) and Prophet Joel. Each prophet holds an inscribed scroll. Elisha's reads Τάδε λ(έ)γ(ει ὁ) Κ(ύριος), 'This says the Lord'. 6 Haggai has Καὶ ἐπέβ[η ἐπὶ Χερουβὶμ καὶ ἐπετάσθη (Psalm 17/18:10), 7 'And He mounted on cherubim, and flew'. Micah's scroll is inscribed Ἔσται ἐπ᾿ ἐσχ[άτων τῶν ἡμερῶν ἐμφανὲς τὸ ὄρος Κυρίου (Micah 4:1 in the Greek Old Testament), 'At the last days the mountain of the Lord shall be manifest'. Joel carries the words κχέω ἀπὸ τ[οῦ πνεύματός μου ἐπὶ πᾶσαν σάρκα (Joel 2:28), 'I will pour out of my spirit on all flesh'.
THE BYZANTINE ARCHITECTURAL SCULPTURE WITH FIGUE AT HELLESPONT
At the Piri Reis Information Office in Gelibolu are four samples made of red schist and sized about 0.78 x 0.80 x 0.25-0.30 metres. On these plastic samples are double-headed eagle figures whose bodies are shown from the front and heads from the profile. Their paws are depicted as globes with Grek crucifixes on them. From their technical features it is understood that they were manufactured for a monumental building. These samples are significant in being rare examples from Byzantine period in Gallipoli peninsula.
