New Trends in Applying Distance Education

2010

We are interested in this issue to present some recent trends in how distance education is being applied to quite novel situations. When we first set out with Journal more than seven years ago, distance education was used to deliver text-based courses with some web-based discussion or chat rooms. Email and the internet facilitated interaction but really only for text-based exchanges. Some file sharing was possible and people could post attachments to each other.

Panel : Development of distance education in the Eastern European countries

European Conference on Information Systems, 2002

The evolution of the European structure brought about the promotion of the distance education as a new strategy for the 3rd Millennium. Its development was due to the even more diversified work market and the expansion of communication techniques. In the modern society ruled by new forms and levels of competition, education became a top priority. As a consequence, the

A proposal for distance education: IKASTEL

Terms such as "Virtual Campus" or "Virtual Faculty" are currently being used to refer to the development of educational activities using telecommunication resources that provide powerful mechanisms for distance learning. Traditional universities follow a "synchronous" teaching model, where instructor and students join together in the same space (the classroom) and at the same time (that given by the timetable). In order to translate this scenario to a distance learning environment, tele-presence systems are required; examples of those are videoconferencing systems, and many classes of groupware. The implementation of such systems is of special interest for traditional universities, because it is a way of broadening their area of action by means of removing the distance barrier. 1. Introduction to the virtual faculty or virtual campus. Terms such as Virtual Faculty or Virtual Campus are currently being used to refer to the development of educational acti...

Distance Education: Prospects, Technologies and Challenges

College Of Basic Education Research Journal

Distance education (henceforth DE) has gained momentum and become famous all over the world. It has become a feasible solution to increase worldwide access to education. This study examines the main outlooks, prospects, technologies, and challenges facing DE in line with international best practices, as well as the need to expand the benefits and interests of many learners. To present an accurate view of these aspects in this study, 20 samples referring to these aspects were randomly selected from different authoritative international universities. Then, observation and testing have been conducted to answer the research questions. Many prospects are being achieved by applying such a system of education. Moreover, the researchers identify many technical devices that have been used in this area with their advantages and disadvantages. Challenges are the most influential concepts that affect the whole process, its usefulness: development and success.

Book Review: Emerging Technologies in Distance Education

Contemporary Educational Technology

The book has both hardcopy (978-1-897425-76-3) and electronic (978-1-897425-77-0) versions. The total number of pages is 335+xiv. The editor George Veletsianos contemplates on a broad spectrum of issues about distance education. As he addresses, the main contribution of the book to the field is amalgamating views of authors from eight different countries, yet they represent the true nature of the field which is a colorful blend of researchers from various fields in academia. Naturally, when the subect comes down to the technology, the beauty of these differences flourish.

Distance education at the Université Libre de Bruxelles: the CLEO project

The Wanderstudent 2000: the Wanderstudent of …, 2001

The CLEO project offers ODL courses in the field of Information Technology to companies of the Belgian-French border regions. The method adopted is based on a combination of self-paced learning using various media (CD-ROM, WWW, video...) and on-site meetings using videoconferencing techniques to keep students in touch across the border. After introducing the project as a whole, this paper will focus on the most recent course offered, "Knowledge Management", which is taught using the Virtual Campus infrastructure of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. We will then highlight some findings based on participants' feedback.

Emerging Trends: Distance Learning

The Agricultural education magazine, 2002

is going to conduct two days international conference. The main aim of ICDE-2015 is to provide a platform for various educational experts in the relevant fields. The demand for education in Pakistan through formal system has consistently run ahead of resources the bulk of their population, therefore, remains educationally defined, and there are failing the demand in formal system, the need of non-formal education in various disciplines become evident in concept of distance education. The distance education help to: 1) cope with the rapid increasing demand of education, 2) provide mass education at reasonable and low costs, 3) acquire education at any stage of their life and, 4) boost up the professional development of working people on their job placeThe rushed development of information and communication technologies and their impact on the world of learning in the last decade have profoundly changed the paradigms, scenarios and values at all levels of education. The professionalization of tools and practices, in addition to the consolidation of academic and practical knowledge, has been a major continuing issue throughout these years. The annual conferences of the largest European professional community in distance and e-learning have been setting the landmarks in this process. This conference will present the developments in the field of open, distance and e-learning. Conference Objectives  Highlight critical success factors and innovative practices in distance learning education.  Examine the key components of effective applications: needs analysis, course design, teaching methods, learner support, management, and evaluation.  Share successful approaches, strategies, and techniques.  Identify active teaching/learning methods for effective engagement, motivation, and performance outcomes.  Discuss major issues, new developments, and trends.  Reflect on progress made in distance education.  Consider future possibilities for technical education through distance learning activities.  Increase knowledge about teaching/training related to distance education.  Facilitate networking among online/distance educators, practitioners and administrators.  Share program resources via technology (e.g., print, audio, video, multimedia, and the internet). DISTANCE EDUCATION AS A DRIVER OF THE NEW TECHNOLOGIES IMPLEMENTATION

IAEME PUBLICATION, 2019

In the current socio-economic environment, expenditures on education are steadily increasing, since an increase in the share of production and, accordingly, educational institutions is required, which will enable it to determine the possibility of integrating distance education technology into the traditional educational system. The relevance of the study is determined by the fact that currently the understanding of distance education is changing from the method of replacing full-time education to an element of private technology to support the learning process. The aim of the study is the need to integrate distance learning as a support system for the control and implementation of students' independent work system. The paper provides a definition of distance learning and the possibilities of its application in the traditional sphere. The research methodology is determined by the historical method, the method of comparative analysis and the general scientific method in terms of comparison and strategic management of the quality of education and the establishment of forms for the implementation of educational technologies. The practical significance of the work is determined by the fact that the integration of distance education is necessary for a private understanding of the structure of the production of the educational sphere in the context of globalization.

Experience in Implementing Distance Learning Technologies in an International Context

Scientific Bulletin of Mukachevo State University. Series «Pedagogy and Psychology», 2021

The relevance of the study is determined by socio-cultural processes, which necessitate the revision of methods for organising the educational process, in particular the transition to distance learning, and the establishment of correlations with international standards. The purpose of the article is to identify the features, advantages, and disadvantages of distance learning, along with the prospects for development in accordance with the comparative analysis of Ukrainian and foreign experience with distance education. Methods and techniques varied depending on the tasks at each research stage, thus, the method of a targeted selection, the comparative method, the generalisation and systematisation of the theoretical material, and others were applied. The article substantiates the prospects for the development and implementation of distance learning technologies. The Ukrainian and foreign studies which focus on the “distance education” are analysed; ways of the distance learning impl...
