IJERT-Comparison of SLM and PTS method for PAPR reduction in OFDM (original) (raw)

A new approach for PAPR reduction of OFDM signal based on SLM and PTS

The Third International Conference on e-Technologies and Networks for Development (ICeND2014), 2014

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is an attractive and promising technique for fourth generation wireless communication. In general, the High Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of transmitted signals for OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency and hence increases the cost of the Radio Frequency (RF) power amplifier. In this paper, we propose a distortion-less PAPR reduction schemes for multi-carrier system. The new schemes combine both the Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) and the Selected Mapping (SLM) techniques. The performance of the new schemes is measured using the Complementary Cumulative Distribution Function (CCDF) of the PAPR. The simulation results show that the two new combined schemes have a better PAPR performances compared to PTS and SLM. On the other hand, the price paid is a slight increase in the system complexity, as well as the side information transmitted.

A new proposed peak-to-average power reduction parameter to evaluate SLM and PTS as OFDM PAPR reduction schemes

2013 IEEE Student Conference on Research and Developement, 2013

Two techniques of the most known ones for peak to average power ratio (PAPR) reduction of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) are selected mapping (SLM) and partial transmit sequence (PTS). Both schemes were proposed as distortion less PAPR reduction algorithms. However, it has been an argument to prove which scheme is the most efficient. In this paper, we propose a new PAPR reduction efficiency parameter which will be applied on the complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) of each technique to compare the results. We show as well how the performance of the system reacts when increasing the probability of getting high PAPR values. Using the proposed efficiency formula, we show that PTS system performance improves when increasing the probability, whereas the SLM system performance gets impaired when increasing the probability within the same range.

Comparative Study of Papr Reduction Techniques in Ofdm

International Journal of Advance Engineering and Research Development, 2017

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is considered to be a promising technique against the multipath fading channel for wireless communications. However, OFDM faces the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) problem that is a major drawback of multicarrier transmission system which leads to power inefficiency in RF section of the transmitter. This paper present different PAPR reduction techniques and conclude an overall comparison of these techniques. We also simulate the selected mapping technique (SLM) for different route number which is most efficient technique for PAPR reduction when the number of subcarrier is large. Simulation shows that the PAPR problem reduced as the route number increases.

A Review: Analysis of PAPR Reduction Techniques of OFDM System

Research & Development in Material Science, 2018

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is an efficient multicarrier modulation scheme in wireless communication. It is used in applications like 4G (fourth generation) mobile Communications, wireless networks, digital television, power line networks and audio Broadcasting. It offers both advantages and disadvantages for multicarrier transmission. The main advantages are the elimination of Inter Carrier Interference (ICI) and Inter Symbol Interference (ISI) in the signal. But OFDM's one of the main detrimental aspects are high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) value of the transmitted signal which highly affects the power amplifiers complexity. Several techniques to overcome and reduce PAPR such as Tone Reservation (TR), selective mapping (SLM), clipping and filtering, partial transmit sequence (PTS), etc. are proposed and implemented. Detailed description and comparisons of all techniques are discussed in this paper.

Performance Improvement in OFDM System by PAPR Reduction

Signal & Image Processing : An International Journal, 2012

Power Ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signals. OFDM consist of large number of independent subcarriers, as a result of which the amplitude of such a signal can have high peak values. Coding, phase rotation and clipping are among many PAPR reduction schemes that have been proposed to overcome this problem. Here two different PAPR reduction methods e.g. partial transmit sequence (PTS) and selective mapping (SLM) are used to reduce PAPR. Significant reduction in PAPR has been achieved using these techniques. The performances of the two methods are then compared.

PAPR Reduction for Improved Efficiency of OFDM Modulation for Next Generation Communication Systems

International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE)

Highly linear power amplifiers are required for transferring large amount of data for future communication. Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) provides high data rate transmission capability with robustness to radio channel impairments. It has been widely accepted for future communication for different services. But, it suffers from high value of peakto-average power ratio (PAPR). High value of PAPR drives high power amplifiers in saturation and causes it to operate in the nonlinear region. In this paper, comparative study of four different PAPR reduction techniques: clipping and filtering (CF), selective mapping method (SLM), partial transmit sequence (PTS) and DFT-spread technique have been done. Mathematical modeling and Matlab simulations have been performed to arrive at the results with 4 QAM modulation format and 1024 number of sub carriers. At 0.01 % of complementary cumulative distribution function (CCDF) significant reduction of 11.3, 3.5, 3.4 and 1.0 dB have been obtained with DFT-spread, SLM, PTS and CF techniques respectively.

Systematic Comparison of Different PAPR Reduction Methods in OFDM Systems

2014

Selected mapping (SLM) is a well-known technique for peak to-averagepower ratio (PAPR) reduction of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this technique, different representations of OFDM symbols are generated by rotation of the original OFDM frame by different phase sequences, and the signal with minimum PAPR is selected and transmitted. To compensate for the effect of the phase rotation at the receiver, it is necessary to transmit the index of the selected phase sequence as side information (SI). In this paper, an SLM technique is introduced for the PAPR reduction of space-frequency-block-coded OFDM systems with Alamouti coding scheme. In this paper, we also propose a simple technique for the reduction of high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR), based on Clipping and Differential Scaling, in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this technique, the amplitude of complex OFDM signal is clipped and then scaled in such a way so that the ...

IJERT-Review of PTS based Algorithms for PAPR Reduction Techniques in OFDM System

OFDM is a multi-carrier modulation technology which enables high capacity of data transmission over a single path. But the major problem in OFDM is the high peak-to-average power ratio due to independent subcarrier. A large PAPR distorts the signal if the transmitter contains non-linear components, which can increase the complexity and reduces the efficiency of power amplifier. Various techniques are surveyed to reduce the PAPR level and complexity. Partial Transmit Sequence is also one of the distortions less technique that improves PAPR performance. However, the high computational complexity is the major disadvantage of PTS due to many IFFT operations. This paper presents various algorithms to reduce the computational complexity. Keywords-Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM); Peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR); Partial transmits Sequence (PTS).

PAPR Reduction Techniques in OFDM

Journal of emerging technologies and innovative research, 2018

The Orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is the most commonly used digital communication technique for transmitting large data over radio waves. Although OFDM is the most commonly efficient method of transmission, a drawback emerges from the mode of transmission which is the PAPR (peak to average power ratio). The peak to average power ratio goes high when the partially transmitted waves of OFDM are added up. These peaks cause many issues which are discussed here in this paper. This paper also gives a detailed outline of OFDM. The method to overcome the PAPR effect is also discussed. IndexTerms OFDM (orthogonal frequency multiplexing), PAPR (peak to average power ratio), signal scrambling, signal distortion, coding techniques. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Performance Evaluation of PAPR Reduction in OFDM based on Signal Distortion and Signal Scrambling Techniques

2014

OFDM is a bandwidth efficient multicarrier modulation has gained a tremendous focus in recent years because of its high spectral efficiency;, multipath delay spread tolerance, effectiveness against impulse noise and frequency diversity. However, some challenging issues still remain unsolved in the design of the OFDM systems. One of the major problems is high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of transmitted OFDM signals. A large PAPR brings disadvantages like increased complexity to the analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converters and a reduced efficiency to the RF power amplifier. In this paper, the proposed techniques are based on Modified selected level mapping and a Hybrid technique used to reduce Peak to Average Ratio of transmitted OFDM signal. And using Matlab simulation result, the proposed techniques are analyzed.
