PATRIARCADO E SUJEIÇÃO DAS MULHERES - PATRIARCHY AND THE SUBJECTION OF WOMEN (original) (raw)

The subjection of women is still a recurring phenomenon in contemporary societies. It concerns a complex tangle of elements that, most of the time, is naturalized amid customs and practices working both, in the public and private spheres. This article makes a bibliographic review to relate, in a synthetic way, several of these elements, pointed out in the texts of intellectuals such as Harriet Taylor (and her husband John Stuart Mill), Carole Pateman, bell hooks, Oyèrónké Oyěwùmí, Heleieth Saffioti, Judith Butler, Marilyn Frye and Iris Young. Likewise, the concepts of Patriarchy and Oppression are explored, regarded as central to understand the subjection of women and the structures that forge it.
