Development of a virtual laboratory on the internet as support for physics laboratory training
European Journal of Physics, 2002
A virtual physics laboratory is being developed in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Informática of the Universidad de Valladolid (UVA). This laboratory will be accessible via the internet, and its main aim is to provide support for the real physics laboratory. In this paper we describe the main steps taken to develop such a laboratory. This virtual laboratory is currently accessible from http://cawdor.fa2.etit.uva.es/laboratorio/index.html.
Remote Monitoring of Lab Experiments to Enhance Collaboration Between Universities
LabView is used to design the system to monitor and control lab experiments remotely over the Internet. Web based embedded system is designed and presented in this paper along with required hardware to perform experiments remotely in allocated time slot. A unique system is designed to monitor and control room temperature remotely. To assess the performance of the designed system and the hardware, an experiment is designed to control room temperature remotely. The Temperature Control System (TCS) publish over the internet by using web server along with embedded live video of the equipment to control and change various required variables. LabView and the equipment from National Instruments is used to perform the experiment and the designed system can be controlled anywhere from the planet by using secure login detail only which exist in the database of server. As the experiments take long time to be completed and during this time the performer need to be presented in the Lab. By implementing this type of system, it will save the time of the performer and it can be utilized in other activities. Also, by designing and implementing this approach students from other Universities can also utilized the hardware and collaboration between institutions will be enhanced. The designed system presented in this article shows promising results which are presented in coming sections of this paper. The performed experiments are recorded and banked in the repository of the institution for future reference along with results.
Automated measurement laboratory accessed by internet
The Automated Measurement Laboratory implements the newest methods of open and distance learning in engineering. The information Internet servers are extended by laboratory servers, that allow complete experiments on the 4 automated measurement centres -interconnected locally by GPIB and integrated with National Instruments LabView 5.1™ (by the built-in Web Server) in virtual instrumentation configurations with Internet access. Real-time monitoring and control is accomplished by web pages, accessing the web-site of the "Virtual Laboratory" – by built-in MS -FrontPage ™ WebBot components "Save Results Form" Handlers to the server and, from it, by publishing the Virtual Instruments' panels as HTML files – or by data socket transfer protocol (dstp). It incorporates CCD cameras that send images of the remote-controlled systems to the web-page of observation. An economical alternative was implemented as e-mail access (POP3 and SMTP) services: the user completes an...
Experience with Remote Physics Experiments in Student's Laboratory
The latest trend in experiments both in student's laboratories and lectures using e-learning in Physics and Nature sciences is the remote laboratory studio via Internet. The experience with remote interactive experiments in real teaching process in physics laboratory at the Faculty of Pedagogy in Trnava University is presented. The distant WEB experiments produced in the Faculty Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague were run under software ISES WEB Control® package (consisting of WEB server, Image Server for the support of WEB cameras, Measure Server for the control of the hardware in our case ISES and HTTP Relay Server)[4]. The students with their computers were connected via a standard WEB browser Internet Explorer. The "laboratory exercise" was carried out in a common computer classroom equipped with standard PCs, the students were guided how to collect the remotely measured data and how to evaluate for the final results. For the remote experiments s...
Use of Technologies in Integrated Mathematics and Physics Laboratories
EDULEARN Proceedings, 2019
This work concerns a scientific research and dissemination initiative related on astroparticle physics. The educational learning path has been organised by INFN (National Institute of Nuclear Physics) during school-and-work alternating courses in collaboration with Universities, research institutes and high schools in Campania inside OCRA (Outreach Cosmic Ray Activities) program. The project idea originates from the great potential of information by the availability of data for outreach activities relating to the experiments on cosmic rays "The Pierre Auger Observatory". Students used the experimental data to develop interdisciplinary paths using mathematical patterns and technological equipment and produced multimedia dissemination material.
Physical Control of Experiment by Using the
The paper presents the first step to the building of a distant experiment, in the framework of remove physical laboratory directed via internet. It deals with the measurements of the basic characteristics of electrical voltage source. The individual parts of arrangement were realized by the ISES kit, that is able to command the measuring procedures and to transform the corresponding values via computer.
Technology, Knowledge and Learning, 2021
Experimental activity in the physics teaching can be considered as a space in which teachers create contexts for students to approach the way scientific knowledge is constructed. In this sense, the strategies for the integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the context of science education, has a wide potential to guide experimental activity to teachers in training. Among the tools offered by ICT, Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) favor to transform the image that students have, in terms of the technical-instrumental character of this science. This paper describes the potentialities of a heuristic V diagram designed as a theoretical-methodological tool that allows to increase the potential of DAS in the physics teaching; as well as the adaptation of the Learning Model in the Physics Laboratory Works (MATLaF), is proposed with the intention of recognizing the cognitive activities that students put into play to solve experimental situations in physics.
Intelligent Processing of Experimental Data in ISES Remote Laboratory
International Journal of Online Engineering (iJOE), 2016
The paper deals with the design of the intelligent processing of experimental data measured in the remote laboratories, where the measurements are performed by connected clients via the finite-state machine residing at an advanced server. As physical hardware and software is used the Internet School Experimental System (ISES). This platform is intended for educational purposes at schools and universities to provide the suitable measuring environment for students using computers. It is especially suitable for distance students who cannot attend regular courses during their studies of physics, chemistry or electro-engineering. At present, the remote laboratory does not dispose of any data processing technique. This results in excessive demands on storing capacity. The suggested solution solves this drawback by processing and archiving techniques to store measured data after their organizing in predetermined structures and concomitant data volume reduction. The paper is organized in th...

Nowadays, the emerging trend of utilizing the internet technology to improve teaching methods has caught the attention of many researchers. The education sector is the particular sector which has been getting the influence to implement more advanced teaching methods, and this can be seen through the application of the monitoring system, remote control, and even data acquisition through the Internet. Therefore, this study demonstrates the development of the interactive system via the Internet for the remote access to the equipment known as LD-Didactic temperature system which is used in the laboratory. This particular system is developed using an Arduino-Espresso8266 and LabVIEW platform which is integrated with Blynk software in order to remotely control the Proportional, Integral, and Derivative (PID) setting. Furthermore, the proposed framework is specifically focused on the PID temperature control system, which allows students to learn and simulate the concept of the control sche...
