La comercialización de productos turdetanos en la fachada atlántica peninsular durante la II Edad del Hierro (siglos V-II a.C.) (original) (raw)
2020, A Journey between East and West in the Mediterranean. IX International Congress of Phoenician and Punic Studies, vol. II
In recent years, we have analysed the distribution of products from the interior of Turdetania along the Atlantic façade of the Iberian Peninsula, especially the mouth the Guadiana and the Tagus estuary, between the 5th and the late 2nd-early 1st centuries BC. We have mostly focused on amphorae, especially the types that are generally considered ‘Turdetanian’ (Pellicer B/C and D types), although other imports, with which they are commonly associated, have also been taken into consideration: Punic amphorae, Kuass-style tablewares, common wares and, for later dates, Italian amphorae and Campanian tablewares. Special attention has been paid to published sealed contexts, although some data from recent, still unpublished, excavations has also been analysed, with the cooperation of the field archaeologists in charge of the excavations. Each specimen has been analysed in terms of morphology, typology, context and functionality, and the fabrics have been macroscopically examined in order to determine their possible provenance. Similarly, the most representative specimens have been sampled for morphological, mineralogical (DRX) and chemical (FRX) analyses. We deploy a similar chronology in our analysis of amphorae from the Lower Guadalquivir valley, with the purpose of identifying production centres and the regional distribution of different wares.
