In this changing environment the managers and the employees have to rapidly adapt. They have to be opened and prepared for new strategies and to understand the fact that risk and innovation are unavoidable. Organizations cannot compete in this ever-changing environment without proper knowledge and lack of capacity for renewal. Managers have to manage the organization in such a manner that the employees will change their vision, ideas and attitudes on long term. Organizations need to see knowledge management as a strategy, this means knowing how to apply knowledge management (KM) concepts to enhance the performance of the system and processes. The aim of the paper is to identify ways in which companies can develop and support the KM strategy to drive more value, by revising the practices in order to ensure the knowledge focus. The companies are more and more aware about the potential of focusing on learning and training. Among the benefits of approaching knowledge management strategy within organisations we must underline its positive impact on organisational performance, ensuring not only its survival but even providing a competitive advantage.

Knowledge Management (KM) is a new scientific discipline which facilitates organisations to better perform in their highly competitive environment. Universities as learning organisations in the centre of the knowledge triangle are faced with the need to better manage their knowledge resources and to facilitate their transfer to all interested stakeholders. Similar to companies, universities are developing at different speeds, and some are lagging behind in adopting KM strategic approach. The goal of this paper is to provide guidance to university staff in developing their KM strategy and integrating it in the overall strategy.
Knowledge management practices in universities: The role of communities of practice

One of the major strategies for managing knowledge for competitive advantage in universities is through Communities of Practice (CoPs). This study sought to assess how universities are using CoPs as a tool to manage and safeguard knowledge for competitive advantage. The study adopted the survey and mixed method research approach to collect data from selected universities in Ghana. The study established that despite the high level of understanding and appreciation for knowledge management practices and the existence of both formal and informal forums for managing and safeguarding knowledge at the universities, the role and impact of CoPs in KM at the universities were insignificant. This was due to the low level of understanding of the concept of CoPs, nonbelonging to a CoP and lack of tools and systems to support CoPs at the universities. The study finally proposed a framework for CoPs in universities. According to the proposed framework, the successful deployment of CoPs in universities depends on identifying and linking the knowledge (tacit and explicit) and CoPs to the universities.

This paper provides an introduction to the process of of creating a knowledge management system for a small to medium organisation. It looks at a range of strategies and policies which can be used to help capture, transfer, share and create knowledge. This paper accepts the contingency view of knowledge management and recognises that different approaches to knowledge management are not mutually exclusive and no one approach is instinctively preferable to another. When improving KM or implementing a new system, one must consider the characteristics of the existing KM infrastructure and establish policies and strategies aimed at addressing current, and sustaining future knowledge needs of the organisation necessary to achieve its strategic vision.
Making a Journey in Knowledge Management Strategy

This paper reports results from an ongoing project examining what managers think about knowledge management in the context of their organisation. This was done in a facilitated computer-assisted group workshop environment. Here we compare the outcomes of workshops held for two relatively large UK organisations, one public sector and the other private. Our conclusions are that there are relatively few differences between the perceptions of these two groups of managers, and that these differences stem more from the stage of the knowledge management life cycle that the two organisations have reached, rather than from the difference in context between public and private sector.

Today, knowledge management is used as part of a business strategy by which an organisation adapts to rapid changes in society and the business world, by which it not only becomes more competitive but also achieves goals and remains successful. Organisations have become aware of the importance of the lifelong learning concept. It should be noted that knowledge management is in close synergy with human resource management in the organisation.
