COVID-19 pandemic: the case of Laguna state polytechnic university community response

While there are limited vaccine to prevent the coronavirus disease, chairperson of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) also asked students and personnel to strictly follow recommended preventive actions to avoid being exposed to the virus and to prevent its spread, such as avoiding close contact with people who are sick, staying home when sick, covering mouth and nose when sneezing, cleaning and disinfecting frequently used objects, and sanitizing hands regularly. The CHED chairman added that tertiary institutions must ensure that there are adequate safeguards within the campus such as hand sanitizers and information tools such as tarpaulins showing preventive measures to take against the disease. This study specifically, intends to describe the level of responsiveness of Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) in coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic which includes: the planning phase, enhanced communication due to reports of effective human-to-human disease transmission, social distancing, pandemic period, and management of pandemic cases. Also, this research tends to develop a resulting plan outlines departments, activities, and resources that are necessity in the milestone decisions. This research also undertakes the important task of measuring the economic and social importance of different social distancing and pharmaceutical interventions that are normally adopted by the public health officials and private citizens in an effort to fight COVID-19 pandemic. These interventions may include social distancing, a prioritized governmental distribution of vaccines and antiviral medications, and pharmaceutical consumption in the private sector. Individuals may possess strong private incentives to avoid the disease, and are willing to self-impose social distancing measures. Traditional models in epidemiology and economics focus on the prevalence of the disease. Result of this study showed that LSPU promptly responded to the pandemic by going online. In record time, the administrators, staff, as well as the students moved from physical spaces that provided them with much social interactions. LSPU shift to online platforms happened and mainly driven by the academic needs of the whole academic community and had digital learning platforms in place, and the means to operate, for the continuous education of the students. As the situation continuous to develop, the administrators are taking active role in addressing both the immediate and long-term challenges related to the outbreak. The LSPU community initializing to help students with lack of access to internet connection by proving E-Bus that are deployed to different part of the community.

Challenges and Opportunities in a Local College in Time of COVID-19 Pandemic

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented challenges and opportunities to higher education institutions all over the world. This paper adds to the growing literature on new perspectives in education amidst the global pandemic. It discusses challenges and opportunities in the context of a local higher education institution. Inputs from teaching and non-teaching personnel were considered. Documentary analysis of proposed transition plans and actions plans from the different departments of the college was made. Recommendations to address these challenges were presented, which served as a basis in the formulation of a transition program in upgrading/sustaining quality education in a local college attuned to the needs of the times.

Local economic development aims to involve all role-players (local government, private sector and community) in the decision-making process in order to create a participatory environment where social and environmental concerns are balanced with economic pursuits. Achieving this is a challenge for local governments in developed and developing regions. The global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has brought about an entirely new set of challenges for local governments, businesses (formal and informal) and policymakers. This book aims to highlight how local economies are impacted during times of a global pandemic from global perspectives. The outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic has presented unprecedented challenges to developed and less-developed local economies. The book aims to uncover the best practices in responding to a pandemic from regional perspectives and from a trans-disciplinary point of view. Scholars from various spheres in the arts, culture, education, health, environment, business and the public sector present their perspectives on the impacts, responses and consequences for local economies and communities. Quality of Academic Service during the COVID-19 Pandemic at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sinjai

The government, through the ministry of education and culture, urges universities to monitor and assist students in learning from home. the type of research chosen is qualitative research. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observation, and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and verification. Academic services during the COVID-19 pandemic at the Universitas Muhammadiyah Sinjai ran effectively according to the rules that had been set and were running according to the expected goals, this was seen from the service for student proposal examinations, the lecture process, and new student admissions

Survey on COVID 19 Pandemic Impact and Opportunities for Students

COVID 19 pandemic changed the entire lifestyle of the people. This drastic alteration in entire systems of the country also impacted the students in various ways but the lockdown time also provided them the opportunity to explore new things about life. The purpose of this study was to identify the impact of the COVID 19 outbreak on students and the opportunities which students have got during this pandemic period. An online survey was conducted in which the link of the questionnaire was distributed to the 3270 students on an online platform by using Google form via Email and Whatsapp. Simple percentage distribution was estimated to analyze the impact of COVID 19 on students and opportunities received by the students during the lockdown period. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20. Survey result shows that 40.18% of students health was impacted during the lockdown. 30.95% were feeling stressed and depressed. Students were having more fear of academic loss. Apart from the negative impact, the students got many opportunities during the lockdown and they have utilized them to enhance the knowledge. In this COVID 19 pandemic period 95.83% of students started believing that they should adopt a physically active lifestyle now onwards to make their body fit and free from diseases. This study suggests that the well-directed interventions are required to reduce the impact of COVID 19 on students future and the well-planned strategies are required to establish a strong e-learning infrastructure and resilient system which can encourage young minds towards skill enhancement and make them more conscious about health and fitness for a healthy life.
