Exogenous cognition and cognitive state theory: The plexus of consumer analytics and decision-making (original) (raw)

The objective of this study, focuses on carrying out a literature review of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as an exclusive factor affecting consumer behavior. The methodology has a descriptive scope of a bibliographic type, studies were selected that have been published in the most important indexes worldwide, in the following order: Web of Science, Scopus, Ebsco and ProQuest, from 2009 to 2020, with a total of 62 publications among scientific articles, books and thesis, which discussed the development of ICT exclusively focused on the modern consumer. A considerable scientific production found between 2013 and 2017 with 47,00% of the documents analyzed. Likewise, in these publications key words such as ICT, digital consumers and consumer behavior are highlighted with 27,00%, 19,00% and 10,00% respectively. Regarding the origin of the documents, it is highlighted that most of them come from Latin America with a percentage of 53,00%. As main conclusions it is highlighted that the intervention of the TIC is immersed in almost all the phases of the decision making that the consumer makes, in addition to it, the present consumers are permanently connected, having greater alternatives of election according to the information that the company develops to reach the final purchase of the product and/or service.
The complexity of consumers' cognitive structures and its relevance to consumer behavior
Journal of Business Research, 2004
Consumers make numerous product decisions every day. This decision-making process depends on the information processing style employed. A key factor here is the complexity of a consumer's cognitive structures (i.e., the sophistication of the structures used to organize information). Although this construct, cognitive complexity, holds much promise for consumer behavior, several questions remain to be answered and were addressed by the present research. First, the results of the present research indicate that the Repertory Grid, developed in social interaction contexts, is a reliable instrument for measuring cognitive complexity in the consumer behavior domain. Second, the results further suggest the presence of a generalizable—as well as a context-specific—component of cognitive complexity. The generalizable component of cognitive complexity indicates that these knowledge structures are transferable across related product categories. As such, cognitive complexity is likely to impact consumer processing of product information and advertising messages.
Two Decades of Research on Consumer Behaviour and Analytics
Journal of Global Information Management
The present study is a systematic literature review that identifies the context of consumer behaviour and analytics in business to forecast the future of consumer behaviour with changing business trends through TCCM (theory, context, characteristics, method) guidelines. The authors identified that prior research used theories in different disciplines to explain the phenomenon in customer behaviour and analytics literature. When considering the theory, these phenomena often can be segregated based on the industry (e.g., marketing, advertising, sales, healthcare, human resource management, tourism), focusing on status-based mechanisms (e.g., cross-gaming predictive models), inertia-based mechanisms (e.g., theory of rational expectations and adaptive learning), or relationship-based mechanisms (e.g., theory of consumer engagement behaviour).
The Impact of Cognitive versus Affective Aspects on Consumer
2015
This paper explores the consumer decision-making process when using service delivery channels. Among service delivery channels, the main focus of the research concerns technology-based delivery channels. Technology continues to change the delivery function of companies and to affect customers ’ usage decisions regarding the delivery channels available. Understanding how customers react to the technology-content of channels and decide how to use the delivery channels of the firm is a key asset for achieving profitability and differentiation. This conclusion is particularly valuable as firms address the financial impact of new technology-based channels and their success in transferring low value-added transactions to electronic channels. Despite the development of new technology-based delivery channels, there is limited knowledge about how customers react to, choose and use these channels. The paper addresses this research void by developing a model that describes customers ’ attitude...
