Influence of Perceived University Support, Perceived Effective Entrepreneurship Education, Perceived Creativity Disposition, Entrepreneurial Passion for Inventing and Founding on Entrepreneurial Intention

Mediterranean Journal of Social Sciences, 2015

We modeled the relationship between entrepreneurship intention and five other variables, including two as formative secondorder constructs. We therefore, employed the use of SmartPLS (2.0) to analyze the influence of perceived effective entrepreneurship education, perceived University support, perceived creativity disposition, entrepreneurial passion for inventing and entrepreneurial passion for founding on entrepreneurial intention. The PLS was readily employed in this study for its ability to estimate a formative measured variable. The first-order reflective and second-order formative variables model parameters were estimated by employing the two-stage approach. Using a sample of 595 students from three Federal Universities in Northern Nigeria, the study found a significant positive relationship between perception of University support, perceived creativity disposition, entrepreneurial passion for inventing, entrepreneurial passion for founding and entrepreneurial intention. However, an unexpectedly significant negative relationship was found between perceived effective entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention. Implications for the findings are provided.

The relationship between perceived effective entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention: the role of perception of university support, perceived creativity disposition and entrepreneurial passion

2015

Entrepreneurship has led to the ever increasing and continuous growing field of entrepreneurship education. However, there are growing concerns about the effectiveness of the programme in forming entrepreneurial intention and the ultimate advancement of enterprising behaviour. Hence, this study investigated the relationship between perceived effective entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention, while considering the role of perception of university support, perceived creativity disposition, entrepreneurial passion for inventing, and entrepreneurial passion for founding a business venture. To validate the model, data from 595 university students were analysed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). The findings showed that all the hypothesised direct relationships were supported except for the relationship between perceived effective entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intention. Similarly, the hypothesized mediating relations...

THE EFFECTS OF CREATIVITY SUPPORTED AT THE UNIVERSITY ON ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOR

Ekonomski vjesnik : Review of Contemporary Entrepreneurship, Business, and Economic Issues, 2022

Purpose: This paper examines direct and serial indirect effects of creativity supported at the university on male and female entrepreneurial behavior through entrepreneurial self-efficacy and individual entrepreneurial intent. Methodology: The hypothesized model (which we tested) was a serial mediation model with two mediators. To examine the question of whether the relationship between variables varies by gender, model 6 in PROCESS macro (Hayes, 2018) was utilized separately for male (n = 218) and female (n = 385) students from nine different universities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Results: Serial mediation of entrepreneurial self-efficacy and individual entrepreneurial intent in the relationship between creativity supported at the university and student entrepreneurial behavior were supported in both male and female samples. Conclusion: Serial mediation analyses indicated that a higher level of creativity supported at the university will improve student entrepreneurial self-efficacy, which may increase their entrepreneurial intent, and consequently, their entrepreneurial behavior. When the university encourages students to produce new ideas and examine old problems in new ways, it improves student confidence in their ability to mobilize cognitive, motivational, and behavioral facilities to perform entrepreneurial tasks successfully, and, in response, students demonstrate a higher level of individual entrepreneurial intent and a greater propensity for entrepreneurial behavior. However, it should be noted that an indirect effect of UC on EB only through EI was not significant in the female sample, which highlights the importance of ESE in the relationship between UC, female EI, and female EB. The results opened up a new field of research on how other types of creativity and other types of university support may affect students' entrepreneurial behavior.

Entrepreneurial Environment as an Antecedent of University Students’ Entrepreneurship Intentions

Journal of Entrepreneurial Innovations

The primary purpose of the study was to develop a model for measuring entrepreneurship intentions among university art students. Therefore, the study investigated and attempted to answer the following question: To what extent does entrepreneurial environment affect the antecedents of entrepreneurial intention (Attitude towards entrepreneurship, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control? A sample of 150 graduates from the Arts and Design programme took part in the study and data collected was analysed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The results provide evidence that subjective norm is an insignificant predictor of entrepreneurial intention compared to attitudes towards entrepreneurial behaviour and entrepreneurial self-efficacy. Perceived environment support was observed to directly relate to future Entrepreneurial Intentions and it also mediates the relationship between Perceived University Environment, Perceived Entrepreneurial Abilities and immediate Entrepreneu...

Impact of some contextual factors on entrepreneurial intention of university students

AFRICAN JOURNAL OF BUSINESS MANAGEMENT, 2011

Entrepreneurship has captured the attention of both scholars and policy makers during the last decades. The main reason for this is the growing needs for entrepreneurs who accelerate economic development through generating new ideas and converting them into profitable ventures. Entrepreneurial activities are not only the incubators of technological innovation, but also provide employment opportunities and increase competitiveness. Fostering entrepreneurship needs a twofold policy that should focus on both the current situation and future prospect of entrepreneurship. As such, it is important to map out the future context of entrepreneurship. The purpose of this paper is to fill this void by analyzing the impact of some contextual factors on the entrepreneurial intention of university students. To fulfill this purpose, we have proposed a model, which shows some contextual factors that affect entrepreneurial intention. In this model, the entrepreneurial intention is taken as a function of structural, educational, formal networks and informal networks support. This model is tested on a sample of 200 university students in Islamic Azad University, South Tehran Branch.

THE ROLE OF PERCEIVED UNIVERSITY SUPPORT IN THE FORMATION OF STUDENTS' ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION

attempted to understand the role of entrepreneurship education in the formation of students' entrepreneurial intention and behavior, albeit in an isolated manner. Universities can support entrepreneurship in many ways, but it is important to measure students' perception 1 Saadat Saeed is an active researcher in the area of technology adoption and entrepreneurship. He has Master of Science in Management (University of Glasgow, UK), Statistics (University of Punjab, Pakistan) and Business Administration (COMSATS, Pakistan). Currently he is a PhD Scholar in Management History. of the support that they receive in order to understand the extent of such support and its impact on students. The current study proposed and tested an integrative, multi-perspective framework. We have hypothesized that the three dimensions of university support, that is, perceived educational support, concept development support, and business development support, together with institutional support shape students' entrepreneurial self-efficacy. In turn, entrepreneurial self-efficacy and individual motivations constitute the fundamental elements of the intention to start a business. A sample of 805 university students took part in the study and data were analyzed using structural equation modelling (SEM). Our findings showed that perceived educational support exerted the highest influence on entrepreneurial self-efficacy, followed by concept development support, business development support and institutional support. Self-efficacy in turn had a significant effect on entrepreneurial intention. Individual motivations such as self-realization, recognition and role had an additional impact on intention. However, intention was not related to financial success, innovation and independence. The findings suggest that a holistic perspective provides a more meaningful understanding of the role of perceived university support in the formation of students' entrepreneurial intention. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
