Feedback expectancy and EFL learners' achievement in english
Porta Linguarum Revista Interuniversitaria de Didáctica de las Lenguas Extranjeras
This study aims to explore the relationship between feedback expectancy of Iranian learners of English and their level of education, achievement in English, and attitude toward peer and teacher feedback. To fulfil the purpose of this study, a sixtyitem questionnaire focusing on issues related to feedback expectancy, peer feedback, teacher feedback, and cultural factors was developed. 533 junior and high school students participated in the study. The results showed that (1) feedback expectancy in higher levels of education is stronger; (2) a positive and moderate correlation exists between feedback expectancy and learners' English achievements; high achievers of English expect more feedback; (3) feedback received from teachers is more expected than from peers; (4) female learners sought more feedback from their peers and teachers than male learners. As providing language learners with clear feedback plays a crucial role in developing learners' language abilities and helping them direct their learning, this study suggests language program developers and teachers to motivate learners to seek feedback from several sources.

The present study investigated the pattern of corrective feedback provision and learner uptake in secondary EFL classrooms as well as students’ opinions on teacher corrective feedback. The research instruments included classroom observation, questionnaires, and interviews. Two hundred forty-eight students were observed in listening and speaking lessons conducted by six different teachers in order to investigate the learner uptake in response to different types of corrective feedback (CF). The first questionnaire was given to all the students and the second questionnaire was given to 23 English teachers at Satri Nakhon Sawan school in Thailand in order to gain their perceptions and opinions on CF. Lastly, five students were randomly chosen for an interview to gain more opinions on CF. It was found that the teachers gave CF on pronunciation (phonological error) the most (58%) followed by grammatical and lexical error (22% and 20% respectively). Recast was found to be the most frequent...
FACTORS AFFECTING MALAYSIAN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHERS' UNDERSTANDING OF FEEDBACK
JOURNAL OF LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION, 2021
Within the ESL classrooms, teachers' written corrective feedback has always been under scrutiny as the inconclusive debate is still going on since the publication of Truscott's (1996) article that sparked the debate. Moreover, research findings point to Malaysian students' lacking writing skills which could be attributed to the teachers' failure to follow the processbased approach and to provide effective feedback in their teaching of writing. This study seeks to find out the factors affecting Malaysian ESL teachers' understanding of feedback. Data were collected using the Teachers Conception of Feedback (TCoF) Inventory adapted from Harris and Brown (2008). The questionnaires were sent out to all secondary schools in Pahang, and a total of 372 English Language teachers answered the survey. The data were analysed using SPSS (Version 25) and Exploratory Factor Analysis. From the analysis, five factors were found, namely (i) Purpose, (ii) Peer and Self-assessment, (iii) Teacher, (iv) Attitudes, and (v) Praise. The results are discussed, and recommendations for further research are made. The results of this study are significant in the sense that they could help the country's policy makers, especially at the Education Ministry level, where better trainings could be delivered to preservice and in-service teachers so that they are better equipped in delivering top quality education to the future generations.
ESL Teachers' Perceptions regarding the Usefulness of Oral Corrective Feedback at Undergraduate Level, 2022
This research aims to examine the perceptions of undergraduate level ESL teachers regarding oral feedback and its impact on student learning. In this regard, this study attempts to determine the particular method of corrective feedback (CF) teachers perceive to be useful, how they apply this method in language classroom, and how their feedback affects the learning of students. Hence, the current study examines how the input of L2 teachers influences the motivation, confidence, self-esteem, student-teacher relationship, and identity of students at undergraduate level. Data was collected through two qualitative research tools: "observations" and "semistructured interviews". Purposive sampling method was used and eight L2 teachers of a private university were sampled for this study. The observations of the selected teachers were conducted for 18 hours and semistructured interviews were also conducted afterwards. Thematic analysis of the data revealed that direct CF was perceived and used by L2 teachers as the best way of correcting students. It was found that the participants had practical experience of direct CF. Moreover, it was concluded that direct CF and reasonable inquiries can influence motivation, confidence, self-esteem, and student-teacher relationship. The findings have useful implications for both theory and practice because they improve on the general guidelines for L2 teachers regarding what type of CF can be beneficial for L2 students, how their feedback can encourage or discourage students, and how they can correct the mistakes of students in an effective way.

This study investigates the perceptions and preferences of ESL learners in Libyan secondary schools, regarding the corrective feedback. The results are based on the analysis of the responses to 120 questionnaires administered to the students. It confirms the positive value of corrective feedback, which the body of existing research literature in the field states, and also reveals and provides evidence to the fact that the learners quite often feel offended or embarrassed, particularly in teacher-fronted classes, when the corrective feedback is given in the presence of their peers. And it is, however, also not decisively clear whether the corrective feedback should be given immediately after the error is detected or after the students have finished their tasks. The study also reveals that, often, the learners do not receive their expected feedback

Therefore, this study aimed to identify the important role of the types and ways in giving oral feedback by an English teacher in language learner development. This study uses a content analysis method using secondary data taken from the previous study in the form of journal articles and thesis published in Indonesian and International journal sites in the past two decades.
