Introduction: Although, there are increasing awareness towards patient-centered approaches which have a positive impact on adherence to treatment, self-management and patient satisfaction. There is a gap for perception of patient-centered care among patients and healthcare service providers. Aims: This study focuses largely on the perception of patients and the healthcare professionals on the important patient-centered aspects like patient's values, coordination of care, communication, physical and emotional support given to patients. Method: In this descriptive study at Sri Ramachandra university hospital and Madras Medical College hospital, a multi speciality hospital in India, primary data was obtained from 512 patients and 280 healthcare professionals on the dimension of patient-centered care. A structural equation model was developed based on earlier published literature used to perform a confirmatory factor analysis on proposed model to verify whether the entire factor has the related components. Multiple linear regressions, most common form of linear regression analysis was used to predict the value of a variable based on the value of two or more other variables. Results: Results suggest that perception of healthcare professionals and inpatients differs in the aspects like privacy, time spent, understanding the patient's needs, overall coordination, information and education, pain management, hospital environment and emotional trust. Conclusion: Though the perception differs from person to person, the healthcare providers can spend some time to understand the patient's needs and develop a model that all the employees can adopt it to reduce the indifference shown in the patient-centered care aspects.
Patient Centered Care and Centeredness Perspective
Universal Journal of Public Health, 2022
Background: Patient-centred care (PCC) helps multidisciplinary health teams to follow informed decision-making practices, and improved healthcare treatments are ensured for patients. The need for significant changes in the healthcare system can be identified with the help of centred patient care, and new healthcare systems are designed and revolve around patient needs. The purpose of the review was to evaluate patient-centred care and the concept of centeredness. Review results: PCC assists in meeting the targets of healthcare settings for patients. This aids the health team to ensure that patient nutrition, cleanliness, emotional, physical comfort, and psychological needs are fulfilled. PCC contributes to reducing the length of patient stay at the hospital, and chances of future admission to the hospital are also lowered. The review may assist to develop better insight into patient-centred care, its dimensions, possible benefits of PCC and perspectives of centeredness. Conclusion: patient-centred care aids to meet the objectives of improved patient care outcomes, lower treatment costs, and increased satisfaction with the quality of health care facilities cared for in the health sector. Healthcare organizations have begun to focus on individualised-oriented care, and they no longer follow traditional procedures to meet the needs of patients. The patient-centred care model showed that health care providers could be dedicated to their work and ready to meet the health expectations set for patients. PCC reduces patients’ length of stay in the hospital, and the chances of recovery from chronic illness also increase. This review contributes to the field of health by highlighting important aspects of patient-centred care that would create cost-effective care, improve hospital services, emphasise communication and promote aspects of patient caring skills.
Patient-Centered Care: A Panacea to Quality Health Care Delivery
CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research - Zenodo, 2022
Patients' satisfaction with quality of care is viewed as the extent to which the patients' desired expectations, objectives and preferences are achieved via their interaction with health care workers, nurses inclusive. Patient-Centred-Care represents a paradigm shift in how patients, providers, and other participants think about the processes of treatment and healing. The aim of patient-centered health care is to enable patients to be active participants in their care. The patient-centered care is hinged on a holistic approach to health care that considers the whole person instead of in a narrow perspective where the emphasis lies on the illness or the symptoms. Patient centred approach via partnership between patient and the health care workforce is therefore recommended for quality health care delivery in our hospitals.

PATIENT-CENTERED CARE; THE PHYSICIAN'S PERSPECTIVE AND ITS IMPACT ON QUALITY HEALTHCARE DELIVERY
International Journal of Healthcare Sciences, 2022
Despite the recent research interest in examining the impact of patient-centered care (PCC) on quality healthcare delivery, various studies fall short in explaining physicians' perceptions of PCC and its effects on their quality healthcare delivery. Hence, this study aims to examine physicians' perception of PCC and its impact on quality healthcare delivery in Ghana. A survey data from 366 physicians in major hospitals in the Eastern and Ashanti regions of Ghana were sampled and further analyzed using hierarchical linear regression analysis. The findings of this study show that, out of the five components of PCC examined, physical comfort and patient preference influence physicians' reliability, responsiveness, empathy, and assurance. Again, information and education significantly influenced physicians' assurance. These results suggest that some aspects of PCC (physical comfort, patient preference, and information and education) influence physicians to deliver quality healthcare. These findings inform health institutions on the need to prioritize patient-centered care as it has been seen to contribute effectively to quality healthcare delivery. Hence, the need to reorient physicians' minds on the concept of PCC and its importance to the health sector.
Strengthening Hospital Competitiveness to Improve Patient Satisfaction and Better Health Outcomes, 2019
Background: Patient Centered Care (PCC) is a health care system focused on patients. This system places patients as subjects in each care provided. This study aimed to systematically review the PCC model to improve the quality and safety of patient care in hospital. Subjects and Method: This was a systematic review conducted by searching articles in the period of 2010 to 2018, using PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases. The keywords were "Patient Centered Care", "quality", and "patient safety". The articles were reviewed by using PRISMA flow diagram. Results: Seven studies reported that PCC was carried out in the attitudes of respecting the dignity of patients and families; maintaining safety and comfort; allowing active family participation; providing information, communication, and education; providing the best services; and benefiting team collaboration. The core concept of PCC to treat patients as a unique individual, respecting their value and belief, and responding flexibly to patient's need and choice. The PCC approach was proven to improve patient status through improved communication, to foster a positive climate, and to encourage interaction between patients and service providers. Interaction was carried out on an ongoing basis that might improve communication so as to avoid unexpected things. Conclusion: Patient Centered Care (PCC) increases the outcomes of health services and minimizes unexpected things.
