Demand for induction motor is ever-growing. With increasing demand, a necessity arises to find efficient motor controlling method. PWM technique is efficient method used to vary voltage and frequency within inverter. A comparative study of five different PWM techniques of three-phase inverter for best induction motor drive performance is presented here using Simulink simulation. Sinusoidal PWM, Sixty-Degree PWM, Trapezoidal PWM, Third Harmonic Injected PWM (THIPWM), Space Vector PWM techniques are presented here. Motor parameters like rotor speed, rotor steady speed obtaining time etc. along with inverter output voltage THD & current THD were observed by varying modulation index, carrier frequency and load torque of motor drive. The simulation result shows that THIPWM exhibits the best induction motor drive performance compared to other PWM techniques. Using THIPWM, effect of high carrier frequency on rotor current, stator current, electromagnetic torque etc. is also presented here.
