Utilization and User Satisfaction of Public Library: A Study of Herbert Macaulay Library, Lagos State-Nigeria

This study surveythe utilization and user satisfaction of Herbert Macaulay library, Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted surveydesign and data were collected using self-developed questionnaire that was administered randomly to the users of the library. The collected data were arranged, coded, tabulated using tables and percentages, and analyzed using SPSS version 21 for Windows. The study found out that, most of the library users are youth and young adults.The study also revealed that the respondents indicated visiting the library frequently for the purpose of general reading, followed by research work, career, recreation/entertainment, to get help always, socialize to meet friends, and to use the internet. The findings also shows that majority of the respondents indicated that the attitude of the library staff influence their visit to the library, and were generally satisfied with the resources and services rendered by the library. Therefore, it was recommended that, sincethe clientele of the library cut across all categories ofusers from the society, the library should endeavor to continually provide information resources and services that meet the different categories of users' needs.

Factors Influencing Utilization of John Harris Library, University of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria

This study investigated the level of utilization and factors influencing utilization of John Harris Library, University of Benin by undergraduate students. A four point likert scale instrument with 35 questions was adopted. Seven questions were on demographics, ten questions on utilization of the library while 18 questions were on factors influencing utilization of the library. Undergraduate students comprising different levels of studies were used in the study. Data collected were analyzed using frequency distribution, percentage, mean, Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Results indicate that there is high and significant level of utilization of the library among the undergraduate students of the University of Benin, Nigeria. Sixteen major factors influenced utilization of the library by the students. Such factors include: human, institutional, environmental factors and information literacy skills. Students’ use of Federal University Library, Gusau, Nigeria

The purpose of this study was to find out how undergraduates of Federal University Gusau, Nigeria use the library resources The descriptive survey design was used in the study. The population was 3,728 registered library users from the three faculties in Federal University Gusau Library, Nigeria. Proportionate stratified sampling technique was adopted to ensure equal participation of the subgroups (Faculties) in line with their respective population and Krejcie and Morgan (1970) formula table for determining sample size from a giving population was used. Sample population of 346 was arrived at. The instruments for data collection were Students‟ library registration record and a structured questionnaire. 346 questionnaires were distributed while 328 copies were returned and 282 was duly completed and found usable. Students Perceptions of the Usefulness of Library Services at the Federal School of Surveying Oyo, Oyo State, Nigeria

This study appraises the perception and use of the library resources by the undergraduates of Federal School of Surveying, Oyo Nigeria. It is a descriptive cross sectional survey that involved the use of a pre-tested questionnaire. The school had ensure the provision of information materials and conducive studying environment through the library, However, literature suggests that cold feet developed by some students may not encourage their use of library which could negatively affect their academic achievement. It is against this background that this study investigated the frequency of library usage, appraisal of existing library services as well as users expectations among undergraduates at the Federal School of Surveying Oyo, Nigeria. The results revealed that though the undergraduates have valid library registration, and were quite aware of existing facilities, they however, did not utilize the library fully for their research work.. Only a few gave positive response. Those who did not visit the library in the course of their research work attributed their action to a lot of factors. They however, proposed a multi-various standards and expectations for the library in order to ensure their patronage and continued interest in the library services. Their expectations includes; wireless broadband access, current books and journals, improved electricity supply, extension of library services, regular training of users among others. Recommendations were made on how to make library more relevant to the students need based on the findings of the research, these includes; extending the library length of service beyond the 6’o clock closing hour to 8’ o clock at night and inclusion of weekend services, provision of improved broadband internet access, providing a well equipped internet space within the library building, organizing regular users’ training for the clients from time to time, and procurement of more computer systems and its allied gadgets to complement the existing ones. Evaluation of library services delivery in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago‐Iwoye, Nigeria

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to present an evaluation of library services delivery in Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago‐Iwoye. Nigeria.Design/methodology/approachA total of 400 questionnaires were administered to respondents, of which 387 (96.75 percent) were returned and used for this study.FindingsThe results of the study indicated that the users' demands of library service represent a wide range of aspects, including the availability of conventional books and periodicals, a good reference function, and access to internet facilities, which are considered an important library function by many of the respondents.Originality/valueThe paper presents recommendations aimed at improving services delivery.

The effect of current and relevant information sources on the use of library services in the university libraries in the southeastern Nigeria

The study investigated the effect of current and relevant information sources on the use of library services in the university libraries in the southeast of Nigeria. Two objectives, two research questions and two hypotheses guided this study. The population for this study was made up of 12,500 registered users out of which a sample of 2000 was taken using proportionate sampling technique. Data were collected using the questionnaire and were analyzed through the use of frequency tabulation and percentages .The hypotheses were tested using statistical method of Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis with the use of computer programme of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS)version10.0. The hypotheses testing were conducted at 0.05 level of significance (p<0.05) for rejection or retention. The currency and relevance of information sources therefore have significant relationship with the use of library services. Recommended adequate funding to acquire current and relevant information sources as well as the provision of ICT and Internet facilities to encourage the use of library services.

International Journal of Library and Information Science Library resources and service utilization by postgraduate students in a Nigerian private university

The study examined the use of library resources and services among postgraduate students in Babcock University Library. Questionnaire was used as the main research instrument. 100 copies of the questionnaire were distributed to the students; the return rate was 76%. The major findings were; majority of the postgraduate students do not use the library regularly. Their main purpose of visiting the library is to consult research materials. They used more internet sources and their major challenge was lack of time. They were also averagely satisfied with the library services. Suggestions were offered to improve the library services.

A Comparative Study of Users' Attitude Towards the Utilization of Library Services in Cross River University of Technology and University of Calabar Libraries, Nigeria

University libraries set up their services to enhance the teaching and research missions of the institutions, particularly for students. Students are increasingly expected to use library services while at university. Users attitude have an effect on their use of library services. This study sought to compare users' attitude towards various library services in Cross River University of Technology and University of Calabar libraries. Multistage non probability sampling technique involving purpose and accidental sampling was adopted for this study. Student Use of the Library: A Case Study at Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana, Nigeria

The study examined the use of the library by students at the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic. A combined quantitative and qualitative approach using the case study design was adopted for the study. A purposive sampling technique was used to select 200 students from each of the five faculties of the Polytechnic, totaling 1,000 students, and 15 library and school staff. A survey questionnaire developed by the researchers was employed to determine the use of the library while a face-to-face interview was conducted to gathered data from library and school staff. The reliability co-efficient of the questionnaire via Cronbach Alpha returns an r = 0.87. Four research questions were developed to guide the study. The findings show that more than half of the library users at the Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic visit the library once a day. They use the library to read, to borrow books, and to make photocopies. Students were satisfied with the library collections and services but not with electronic resources. As the library is neither networked nor connected to the Internet, students usually patronize the cyber cafe close to their school as an alternative.
