Potential of Inquiry-Based Learning to Train Student's Metacognitive and Science Process Skill (original) (raw)

Effect of inquiry science learning on students’ metacognitive skill

2021

This study aims to determine the effect of the inquiry learning model on the metacognitive skills of class XI science students at SMA Negeri 1 Manokwari. This study used a quasi-experimental approach with a non-equivalent control group. This study took samples of two groups, namely the XI MIA 4 group as the experimental group, and the XI MIA 7 group as the control group. Purposive sampling is used in the sample method. The instrument used is a test consisting of 12 questions in the form of a description. The findings show that the average final metacognitive ability of the experimental group is 61.22, while the average of the control group is 46.69. The data analyst used the Mann-Whitney non-parametric test to determine whether there was a difference in metacognitive ability between students using the inquiry model and students using the conventional model. P= 0.012 < 0.05 indicates that there are differences in metacognitive skills between students who use the inquiry model and ...

Encouraging students' metacognitive skills through inquiry learning

Inornatus: Biology Education Journal

This study's purpose of find the inquiry-based learning effect on the metacognitive skills of high school students. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test design. The sample size is 65 science students at a high school in Manokwari. Data analysis using the Mann Whitney test. The results showed Sig 0.00 <0.05, which means differences in metacognitive skills in the experimental and control groups. It can be concluded that there is an effect of inquiry-based learning on students' metacognitive skills.

The Impact of Inquiry Based Learning Approach on Secondary School Students’ Science Process Skills

Open Journal for Educational Research, 2020

The aim of this research was to investigate the effect of science course which is based on inquiry based learning approach on seventh grade students' scientific process skill levels. Both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were used in the study. Considering that both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods were used, the study involved a mixed-method design. The research process was carried out according to the simultaneous transformational mixed research design. The study group consisted of 40 students at seventh grade who were studying in public schools in a district in the western part of Turkey in the 2016-2017 academic year. The data analysis was carried out with Scientific Process Skills Scale and Semi-Structured Interview Form. The obtained data were analyzed using statistical methods. As a result of the study, it was determined that the scientific process skill levels of the students in the experimental group increased statistically signif...

Effects of the Inquiry-Based Learning Method on Students' Achievement, Science Process Skills and Attitudes towards Science: A Meta-Analysis Science

Journal of TURKISH SCIENCE EDUCATION, 2016

The effectiveness of inquiry-based learning method was discussed for a long time. However, inquiry-based learning method was not discussed and compared with traditional learning before in terms of students' academic achievement, science process skills and attitudes towards science in a meta-analysis study. This study aimed to cover the effects of the inquiry-based science education on students' academic achievement, science process skills and attitudes towards science comparing with traditional learning. The study reviews the findings of the studies on the effectiveness of the inquiry-based science education comparing with traditional learning. In other words, meta-analysis method was used to combine statistically the numerical data of the studies and to reach a general conclusion using the results of these studies. The study reviewed a total of nineteen studies (37 comparisons in terms of achievement, science process skills and attitudes towards science) about the effects of the inquiry-based science education on the students' academic achievement, science process skills and attitudes towards science comparing with traditional learning carried out in Turkey between 2005 and 2015. Meta-analysis results showed that the inquiry-based science education had a positive and higher levels of effects of students' academic achievement (Cohen's d=1.029). It was also found that this specific teaching and learning method had a positive and medium level of effect on their science process skills (Cohen's d=0.742) and attitudes towards science (Cohen's d=0.558). It was found that the inquiry-based learning method used in science education had much more significant effects on student achievement rather than on their science process skills and their attitudes towards science in contrast to the traditional teaching method.

The Influence of Inquiry Learning Model in Improving Students' Critical Thinking Skills in View of Learning Styles in Science Learning in Elementary Schools

EduBasic Journal: Jurnal Pendidikan Dasar

One of the skills that students need to possess in the 21st century is the ability to think critically. Students' critical thinking skills can be developed in natural science learning. Nonetheless, not all learning models can help students improve their critical thinking skills. Undoubtedly, a suitable learning model must be chosen; the most crucial step is understanding the student's preferred learning method. This study, therefore, aims to determine the influence of the inquiry learning model in improving students' critical thinking skills in terms of various student learning styles. This study used a quantitative research approach. The method used was an experimental research method with a 2x2 factorial ANOVA experimental research type. This research was conducted in class V at eight elementary schools in Majalengka Regency, with a total sample of 262 students. The data collection instrument employed was an essay test. The data analysis techniques utilized were the no...

The Effect of Inquiry Model on Science Process Skills and Learning Outcomes

European Journal of Education Studies, 2018

This research is conducted based on the view that IPA is studied not only as a product but also as a process using inquiry model. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of learning outcomes of the inquiry learning model. The research method used quantitative analysis. The results showed that the inquiry model had a significant impact on the skills of the science process and the learning outcomes of the learners. Article visualizations:

The Effect of the Inquiry Learning Model on Students’ Metacognition Awareness

Lensa: Jurnal Kependidikan Fisika

This study aims to determine the effect of inquiry learning models on the students’ metacognition awareness in senior high school. Metacognition awareness in this study consists of eight components, namely (1) declarative knowledge, (2) procedural knowledge, (3) conditional knowledge, (4) planning, (5) information management system, (6) monitoring, (7) evaluation, and (8) debugging. This research is a quasi-experimental research with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study were 25 students of science in Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 3 Lombok Tengah chosen using the saturated sample technique. Metacognition Awerness Inventory (MAI) is used to collect metacognition awareness data of students who are analyzed using paired t-test and Wilcoxon test samples. The results showed that students' metacognition awareness for all indicators was stated to increase (p <0.05) after learning using inquiry learning models. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the inqui...
