Uncovering the role of social media tools for knowledge sharing among the Indian Library Professionals

Internet and its use have become ubiquitous and its tremendous growth has given way to Social networking sites evolved as the most popular medium of communication. The present study on the kind of information shared, motives and benefits for sharing information as well as the problems encountered while Sharing Knowledge through SNS. There were 652 responses obtained through an online questionnaire. The percentage approach was used for data analysis. The results found that 99.5% of the respondents from the Library and Information science access the internet for various purposes. 66.4% of respondents share valuable information with friends and 62.5% with the community. 47.2% share both videos and audios with friends, 35.6% share information in Newsletter mode, 44.3% and 61.5% share posts and presentations using SNS. 94.2% deem sharing valuable content as a major motivational factor. 94% agreed that SNS use for communicating and interacting with friends; 90.5% strongly agreed SNS use for online learning and establishing contact with subject experts. 87.7% and 78.3% agreed for getting updated information in their area of interest and for sharing new ideas to get solutions for research questions. Overall, the respondents have derived a great benefit by SNS platforms. For SNS us issues, 95% of respondents agreed that 'the data security' and 'privacy breach' while sharing content in social media. 68.6% of respondents also agreed that 'internet addiction' and 'cyber-crime' are the two major issues faced by the professionals. The study suggests LIS professional play a better role in the knowledge sharing cycle.

Social Networking Sites Usage by Library and Information Professionals in India: A Study

The study investigates how library and information science professionals working in higher education institutions in India integrate social networking sites (SNS) into their routine work. It was revealed through the questionnaire that the majority of respondents are members of the institution's official group on the SNS, whereas only one fifth are members of an unofficial student group. These information professionals use SNS to socialize, keep themselves up-to-date, find jobs, and acquire information about conferences and seminars in their respective fields. Some of the legitimate concerns of library and information science professionals are privacy and cyber-bullying. To increase use, social networking applications must be incorporated into the curriculum of master's degree courses for library and information science.

VALUE AND USE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING TECHNOLOGY (SNT) IN INDIAN LIBRARIES – A STUDY

Social Networking Sites (SNSs) are becoming an integral part of life all the educated peoples. Now a Day Social media are mainstreams all the activities. Facebook and Twitter have more than 900 million users. Many businesses, cultural organizations and some institutions are leveraging social media to achieve their strategic goals. A review of the literature across library and non-library sectors will investigate the current social media environment relating to strategy, communication and engagement. This Social Networking Technology (SNT) is offering one of the opportunities to reach library users. This SNSs provide an innovative and effective way of connecting users. Most of the International University Libraries have attached a link of a social networking site to their library’s web pages. In this paper describes Social Networking Definition, Values, Benefits of Social Networking Sites to Indian Libraries, Features of Social Networking Services in Library, Practicing Social Networking in Library Services, Challenges Using Social Networking in Libraries and Future roles of Librarians. Application of Social Media for Promoting Library and Information Services: A Case Study of LIS Professionals of India

Social media is playing an important role for dissemination of information to the society. In 21'1 century most of the people have a smart phone and used different social media tools like Face book, Twitter, Instagram, Whats App, Skype etc. in day today life. It is rapidly growing web based tool for everyone to share thoughts, ideas and knowledge globally using internet. The study highlights the current use of social media tools for promoting library and information services of Library and Information Professionals of India, which are working in Library. The study was conducted during November, 2017. A structure questionnaire was prepared using Google does and shared using different mailing list, sent to individual email IDs and sharing with other social media tools. Only 90 responses received from the different states of India and analyzed via MS-Excel. The results revealed that out 90 respondents 37 are female and 53 male categories and majority of the respondents 71 come from academic library followed by special library 15, Public library 3 and corporate library 1 respondent. The study indicates that, out of 90 respondents' majority of the respondents 53 said that their Library have a social media account while 39 respondents have not asocial media account of their Library. The study also inform that Face book, YouTube, Google+, Linkedln, twitter and Instagram are used by the LIS professional of India and Face book 86 was popular social media tool among the other social media tools. The study furthermore identified that lack of time is the major problem while using social media with 53 of respondents followed by low speed of intern et 35,too many social media tools to learn 17 and some 3 respondents reported that there is no problem while using social media tools.

Use of social networking sites by library professional in the institute Libraries: A study

In this scenario Social Networking sites are used as effective media of communication. The social networking sites are a tool to connect people together for common purpose. Now a day’s social networking sites helps to improve library profession as well as library services. The SNS are totally changed the traditional library services and information tools. Through the SNS library professionals can reach to number of users at time and they are able to provide similar kind of information to large community of the users. The use of social networking sites in library is increasing days by day and it helps to library professionals to build personal interaction with their users.This paper focused on use of SNS by library professionals, their purpose and how SNS are useful to them for improving library services.

Awareness and Use of Academic Social Networking Sites Among Library and Information Science Professionals in North Eastern Region in India

A variety of Academic Social Networking (ASN) Platforms, Including ResearchGate, Academia.edu and Google Scholar, have gained popularity over the past decades. A common capability of many of these academic social networking websites is to provide an online repository to which users can upload and share research papers. Now 10 years since the launch of the three main platforms which currently lead the market (Academia.edu, ResearchGate, and Mendeley), it is timely to review how and why ASNS are used. Recently Microsoft Academic also. These sites allow uploading academic articles, abstracts, and links to published articles; track demand for published articles, and engage in professional interaction. This study investigates the nature of the use and the perceived utility of the Academic Social Networking Sites among the LIS Professionals in the North Eastern Region in India. This study reveals that Non Teaching Professionals have knowledge of ASNSs. Google Scholar and Academia are the most used ASNSs among LIS professionals. 77.5% of the LIS Professionals indicated their preference for uploading a full-text version of their publications and 52.42% accessed the relevant ASNS at least daily.

Use of Social Media Tools by the Academic Libraries in Northern India: A Study

The use of various social media tools in libraries is not a new topic and is in vogue for more than a decade now. Academic libraries around the globe are widely using social media tools to reach to their users and promote their products and services. The present study was carried out to determine the use of Social Media tools used for promoting the library resources and services in the academic libraries in Northern India. The library websites were analyzed for identifying social media tools being used. The study reveals that the majority of the academic libraries do not use any Social Media tool. However, their respective parent organizations use a few Social Media tools like Facebook, Twitter, Ask a Librarian and RSS feeds. The study further reveals that Email service is being used by many libraries followed by YouTube and Blog services.

Use and Usage Patterns Of Social Networking Sites Among Library Professionals In Graduate Colleges Of Bangalore City

The paper describes the use and usage patterns of social media and social networking sites in higher education libraries. The purpose of this paper is to study the users of social media in higher academic institutions and to determine the awareness about social media among librarians of higher academic institutions. The social media is a paradigm has led to the development of some of the successful practises among the librarians and leads to the delivery of information to the end users. The result shows that, social media are widely used for the development of institutional reputation and dissemination of information among the users and the social media applications and sites are gaining importance in the Indian scenario also.

USE OF SOCIAL NETWORKING TOOLS BY LIBRARY PROFESSIONALS

In this modern era of information technology, social media is the key factor for communication with library users. It has created a new platform for librarians to supply library services in an effective and innovative way. In this paper an attempt has been made to know the utility of internet commutation sites among library professionals. The study also identifies the perception among library professionals with regard to importance of these multimedia tools. The study is based on survey research method using questionnaire as a tool. For designing questionnaire comprehensive review of the literature was conducted by using different websites, blogs and search engines. The College Librarians of Government colleges of Madhya Pradesh in Jabalpur Division participated. In Jabalpur division there are six districts Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Katni, Chhindwara, were put under this study. The structured questionnaire was distributed among 95 Librarians. Hundred percent responses were received from the respondents. The questions related to social networking tools were based on the theme of the study.
