Abstract

Web - based learning is an effective method for educating pediatric residents about transition to adult subspecialty congenital heart disease care Purpose: The incidence of congenital heart disease (CHD) is 1% of the newborn population with over 90% surviving and reaching adulthood. Improved survival requires transition from pediatric-focused to adult-centered cardiac care but this is not routinely performed. One recognized barrier to transition is a lack of physician education and training. There is little data on how to train pediatric residents to properly transition their pediatric patients to adult caregivers. Methods: An interactive web based module was prepared and reviewed by a panel of national experts in transitional care. The module was sent by individual e-mail to pediatric residents.
