Review of Cloud Forensics: Challenges, Solutions and Comparative Analysis
IJCA, 2019
Every technology has some benefits and some limitations. Cloud computing has its own set of them. Cloud computing has various advantages i.e. reliability, cost effective, scalability, fault tolerance, backup. But there are also some security issues in cloud computing because data is stored on worldwide platform. Many attackers can use cloud services to create vulnerability in the cloud system. There are some forensics tools implemented to find information about these attacks in cloud environment. This complete process to find evidence in cloud environment is known as cloud forensics. This paper presents a study about cloud forensics methods, technology used, comparative study to provide awareness of tools, methods, challenges in cloud forensics. This information will help to find new techniques to improve forensics process in cloud forensics.
Cloud Forensics: Identifying the Major Issues and Challenges
One of the most important areas in the developing field of cloud computing is the way that investigators conduct researches in order to reveal the ways that a digital crime took place over the cloud. This area is known as cloud forensics. While great research on digital forensics has been carried out, the current digital forensic models and frameworks used to conduct a digital investigation don’t meet the requirements and standards demanded in cloud forensics due to the nature and characteristics of cloud computing. In parallel, issues and challenges faced in traditional forensics are different to the ones of cloud forensics. This paper addresses the issues of the cloud forensics challenges identified from review conducted in the respective area and moves to a new model assigning the aforementioned challenges to stages.
Cloud Forensics: Drawbacks in Current Methodologies and Proposed Solution
Cloud Computing is a heavily evolving domain in technology. Many public and private entities are shifting their workstations on the cloud due to its robust, remote, virtual environment. Due to the enormity of this domain, it has become increasingly easier to carry out any sort of malicious attacks on such cloud platforms. There is a very low research done to develop the theory and practice of cloud forensics. One of the main challenges includes the inability to collect enough evidence from each and every subscriber of a Cloud Service Provider(CSP) and thus not being able to trace out the roots of the malicious activity committed. In this paper we compare past research done in this field and address the gaps and loopholes in the frameworks previously suggested. Overcoming these, our system/framework facilitates the collection, organization, and thereby the analysis of the evidence sought, hence preserving the essential integrity of the sensitive and volatile data.
Cloud forensics: A research perspective
2013
Cloud computing and digital forensics are both developing topics and researching these topics requires an understanding of the main aspects of both cloud computing and digital forensics. In cloud computing it is necessary not only to understand its characteristics and the different services and deployment models but also to survey the underpinning elements of cloud computing such as virtualization and the distributed computing which are important to identify its impact on current digital forensics guidelines and procedures.
A Review of Cloud Forensics Issues & Challenges
Cloud Computing is becoming most sought after and desired service among organizations as it can share entities such as, process units, storage and software and promises simplicity and delivering services based on virtualization technologies. Convenience, availability, elasticity, speed, large storage capacity, scalability, and on-demand network access are some of the key features of cloud computing. The surge in adoption of cloud computing solutions makes it inevitable for digital forensics not to follow since considerable & extensive potential security risks girdle this new technology. This paper provides a review of cloud forensics including the issues and existing challenges in order to give better future prospects and also offers some steps to be taken to overcome these challenges.
A survey on cloud forensics challenges and solutions
In recent years, cloud computing has gained popularity, and it is now used to support various areas of human life. Cloud forensics has been introduced to help forensic investigators find potential evidence against cloud criminal activities and maintain the security and integrity of the information stored in the cloud. While great research in the area has been carried out concerning challenges and solutions, the research on methodologies and frameworks is still in its infancy. This article focuses on the methodological aspects of cloud forensics. It critically reviews cloud forensics' existing challenges and solutions, and it explores, based on a detailed review of the area, all the work that has been carried out both in digital and cloud forensic methodologies mainly for supporting the investigation of security incidents in cloud. Furthermore, the detailed comparison reveals similarities and drawbacks of the existing methodologies providing some novel future research directions. Finally, the specific paper can be considered as a starting point for researchers wishing to design cloud-forensicable services over the cloud.

Abstract Cloud computing is estimated to be one of the most transformative technologies in the history of computing. Cloud organizations, including the providers and customers of cloud services, have yet to establish a well-defined forensic capability. Without this they are unable to ensure the robustness and suitability of their services to support investigations of criminal activity. In this paper, we take the first steps towards defining the new area of cloud forensics, and analyze its challenges and opportunities.
Advances in Digital Forensics VII, 2011
Cloud computing may well become one of the most transformative technologies in the history of computing. Cloud service providers and customers have yet to establish adequate forensic capabilities that could support investigations of criminal activities in the cloud. This paper discusses the emerging area of cloud forensics, and highlights its challenges and opportunities.
Cloud Forensics Solutions: A Review
Cloud computing technology attracted many Internet users and organizations the past few years and has become one of the hottest topics in IT. However, due to the newly appeared threats and challenges arisen in cloud computing, current methodologies and techniques are not designed for assisting the respective forensic processes in cloud environments. Challenges and issues introduced, require new solutions in cloud forensics. To date, the research conducted in this area concerns mostly the identification of the major challenges in cloud forensics. This paper focuses on the identification of the available technical solutions addressed in the respective literature that have an applicability on cloud computing. Furthermore it matches the identified solutions with the respective challenges already mentioned in the respective literature. Specifically, it summarizes the methods and the proposed solutions used to conduct an investigation, in comparison to the respective cloud challenges and finally it highlights the open problems in the area of cloud forensics.
Review on Cloud Forensics: An Open Discussion on Challenges and Capabilities
International Journal of Computer Applications, 2016
Amongst all recently emerging research paradigms, Cloud Computing is very much significant due to its utility services provisioning with shared and virtualized resources. Cloud is going to provide Everything-as-a-Service (EaaS) in very near future because all the services (Infrastructure, Platform, Software) will be made available as and when required and that too with high flexibility and low cost. Consumers can avail all the services without investing for infrastructures. There lies the spark of it which attracts the cloud attackers to get indulged in malicious activities and this creates a threat for this technology. Cloud Forensics is a new outlook introduced to identify, analyze and investigate these security threats. This paper insights a better awareness about cloud forensics illustrating all its related technical aspects, few of the suggested architectures and thus it identifies the major research scopes and challenges as well so that Cloud technology can be made secure from various threats and attacks.
