Smart Guide For Visually Impaired (original) (raw)

2017, International Journal of Engineering Science and Futuristic Technology

The beauty of world lies in its astonishing sceneries. Man understands and enjoys his surroundings mostly using his eyes. But some people are visually impaired and they face many difficulties everyday to move around places especially inside any organisation like hospitals, schools and colleges. For solving this problem to an extent, a new system has been proposed which will guide such people to comfortably travel through places. In this system ultrasonic sensors are used to sense the obstacles in front of the person, within a range of four meters. Moreover, another sensor is placed at the bottom of the stick for the sake of avoiding puddles. Two other sensors attached on the sides of the stick aid in detecting the walking span at the sides. Speech warning messages and the vibration motor are activated when any obstacle is detected. This proposed system uses the microcontroller Arduino embedded system and vibration motor. The stick is capable of detecting all obstacles in the range of four meter during 39 ms and gives a suitable respect message empowering blind to move twice his normal speed because she/he feels safe. The proposed design of smart stick is of fast response, low cost, light weight, low power consumption and ability to fold. The main aim of this project is to contribute our knowledge and services to the people of blind and disable society
