New records of leaf beetles from Israel
Phytoparasitica, 1997
Four species of leaf beetles (Chrysomelidae) were recorded for the first time in Israel from 'Evolution Canyon', Lower Nahal Oren, Mt. Carmel: Cryptocephalus egerick~i Tapes, Cyrtonastes libanensis Berti & Daccordi, Pachybrachis jordanicus Lopatin, and Cassida pellergrini. Longitarsus parvulus was recorded for the second time in Israel.
A new Catalogue of the Cerambycidae from Israel is proposed with details on their distribution and host plants. A total of 104 species representing 65 genera and 5 subfamilies are recorded. All taxa mentioned by previous authors are quoted and discussed; a list of species to be excluded from the Israeli Cerambycid fauna is provided. Seven species are regarded as new records for Israel.
Longhorn beetles (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae)
2010
A total of 19 alien longhorn beetle species have established in Europe where they presently account for ca. 2.8 % of the total cerambycid fauna. Most species belong to the subfamilies Cerambycinae and Laminae which are prevalent in the native fauna as well. Th e alien species mainly established during the period 1975-1999, arriving predominantly from Asia. France, Spain and Italy are by far the most invaded countries. All species have been introduced accidentally. Wood-derived products such as wood-packaging material and palettes, plants for planting, and bonsais constitute invasive pathways of increasing importance. However, only few species have yet colonized natural habitats outside parks and gardens. Present ecological and economical impacts, and future trends are discussed.
Israel journal of entomology, 1979
There are 42 species of Longitarsus recorded from Israel. For the Known species, previously recorded and new distributional and Host plant data are listed; zoogeographlcal affinities and predictions are also given. There are 18 species recorded In Israel for the first time as well as new records from Iran, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Egypt. Three new synonymies are established: kiapperichi Mohr (= aKierii Pic); syriacus (Allard) (= luridus (Scopoll)); spifotus Welse (= rectilineatus (Foudras)). Many new host plant records are given, Including records for 8 species with previously unknown hosts. There are 6 new species described: ailotrophus; bytinskii; eminatus; hermonensis; nigriiividus; and nimrodi.
Major pests of man-made forests in israel: origin, biology, damage and control
Phytoparasitica, 1987
The important pests of the three main tree genera used in afforestation in Israel are described. The pine pests are the Israeli bast scale, Matsucoccus josephi; the pine processionary caterpillar, Thaurnetopoea wilkinsoni; the bark beetles Orthotomicus erosus, Pityogenes calcaratus and Tomicus destruens, and the Mediterranean shoot moth, Rhyacionia buoliana thurificana. The cypress pests are the bark beetles Phloeosinus armatus and P. aubei. The eucalypt borerPhoracantha semipunctata is the sole significant pest of eucalypts. All of these pests, except for the last, are considered endemic species which maintained themselves in the natural relict stands. Routine chemical control operations are conducted only against T. wilkinsoni. Natural enemies are capable of keeping the other pest populations under good control if appropriate silvicultural measures and practices are in use.
