Analysis of a complete. beta. -decay experiment under the right-handed-current hypothesis (original) (raw)

1989

Abstract

From analysis of current experimental data on the β decay of the neutron, complemented by positron polarization data from nuclear β{sup +} transitions, we obtain restrictions on the parameters of right-handed currents (mixing angle, mass of the right-handed {ital W} boson) and---for the first time---on the weak axial hadronic current renormalization constant λ{sub {ital N}}. It is shown that in the presence of right-handed currents λ{sub {ital N}} may differ from the known value λ=-1.26 and vary in the range -1.51â¤Î»{sub {ital N}}â¤1.08 (at the 68% confidence level).
