Naturally occurring flavonoids are directly associated with human dietary ingredients and health, there is need to evaluate the impact of commonly consumed flavonoids, on human health and diseases. Flavonoids possess number of beneficial effects along with mitigation of diseases both in-vitro as well as invivo experimental conditions. Chrysin, a naturally occurring flavones most abundantly found in numerous plant including fruits and vegetables, possesses potent anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory in addition to antioxidant activities. Chrysin acts on various molecular targets and modulate different signaling pathways of inflammation (NFkB, PXR, TBK1) and cellular metabolism (AMPK/AKT/ERK/PPAR). Furthermore, positive effects of chrysin on browning of fat and obesity also have been reported. The present review highlights the chemistry, sources, pharmacokinetic, molecular targets and toxicity of chrysin as well as its pharmacological potential.

Bioactivity evaluation of synthesized flavone analogs

Flavonoids are natural phenolic compounds found in dietary sources such as plants, fruits, and vegetables. They have a wide range of biological activities including cytostatic and anti-inflammatory effects. In this research, we synthesized flavone derivatives via the introduction of various aryl functional groups. Furthermore, we combined flavones with gallic acid derivatives. The synthesized compounds were tested against cervical (HeLa) and colon cancer cells (CaCo-2). Moreover, the synthesized compounds were evaluated for their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities using DPPH and COX inhibition tests, respectively. The success of the synthesis of our target compounds was confirmed using IR and NMR. Compound 3 potently inhibited the proliferation of CaCo-2 cells (IC 50 = 2.42 µg/mL). Meanwhile, compound 4 exhibited antioxidant activity (IC 50 = 3.53 ± 0.1 µg/mL). Moreover, compound 4 selectively inhibited COX-2 with an IC 50 = 6.02 ± 0.33 µg/mL; it was approximately 6-fold more selective for COX-2 than for COX-1 enzymes. In conclusion, the results strongly indicate that the chemical modification of flavones enhances their bioactivity. Further investigation of in vivo anti-inflammatory and anticancer evaluation of active compounds is required to prove both safety and efficacy.
Flavones and Their Derivatives: Synthetic and Pharmacological Importance

Flavones (from the Latin flavus, which means “yellow”) are a kind of flavonoid with a backbone of 2-phenylchromen-4-one. Flavones, one of the most important classes of plant secondary metabolites, are well-known for their anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antioxidant, anti-osteoporatic, anti-diabetic, anti-estrogenic, anti-allergic, and metal chelating properties. These family compounds have been intensively studied synthetically due to their wide spectrum of biological actions, and more than 4000 chemically distinct flavonoids have been identified from plants. However, new advances in synthetic chemistry have resulted in the production of a number of therapeutically important derivatives. This article summarizes the synthesis of flavones, their derivatives, and other flavone analogues which have the potential for treating a range of illnesses and ailments.
The Role of Flavonoids in Drug Discovery-Review on Potential Applications

Natural products have been playing an important role in our health. Among these, flavonoids comprise one of the most appearing botanical products. Different three dimensional shape, chemical, physical and biochemical properties of flavonoids can interact with different sub cellular locations to influence biological activity in plants, animals, and microbes. A series of flavonoids had showed inhibitory activity against a variety of human pathogens, and they used as curing agents for various human diseases. This review has presented some pharmacological activities of flavonoids and collectively referred as new potential drug leads.
Emerging trends in flavonoid research: Advances in understanding and applications

Flavonoids are secondary plant metabolites involved in biological activity that are present in plentiful proportions in many plant origin foods and beverages. Owing to their chemical difference and qualities that make them beneficial for human health, they have received a lot of focus in research. This review therefore presents an account on the chemical structure of flavonoids, food sources and their metabolism with emphasis on bioavailability. And they also examine their antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, cardiovascular protective, neuroprotective, and antimicrobial properties and reveal related molecular processes. In addition, it overviews the clinical data concerning their possible use in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Some of the problems that attend current flavonoid research are also dealt with; such issues as variation in the bioactivity of flavonoids and scarcity of clinical studies. This review is designed to present current state of knowledge and to provoke further research concerning the further potential of flavonoids in enhancing human health.

Flavonoids are widely distributed secondary metabolites and currently consumed in large amounts in the daily diet. In this article, some of the most recent developments in flavonoidand related polyphenolic compoundspharmacology are discussed, with particular emphasis on very recent data, most of which are published in Phytotherapy Research, which highlight new aspects in flavonoid anti-inflammatory, antilipidemic, antihyperglycemic, antiviral, hepatoprotective, gastric antiulcer, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, antioxidant and anticancer actions. These updated data confirm the well-established diverse beneficial pharmacological actions and might support the perspective for a therapeutic use.
