Stogdill Distinguished Leadership Scholarship Award was established in 1976. Bestowed on an intermittent basis, the award is given to a leadership scholar "in recognition of his or her outstanding contribvion to the advancement of leadership research and for devotion to the development of a new generation of leadership scholars." Thus, the award is intended not only for the scholarly research contribution of the chosen individual but, equally important, for the contribution to the development of others in the field.
