So, 160 secondary school teachers, including 70 male and 90 female teachers, were selected using simple random sampling. Data about frequencies, percentages, means, and SD were analyzed. The results show that teachers confirmed that smartphones support students in gaining new skills, like critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The studies also illustrate that smartphones are destroying students' health and increasing depression. Study advised that teachers and parents may check and balance the usage of mobile by students for their well-being. Teachers and parents motivate them to use smartphones positively, enhancing their learning and education quality.

Role of Smartphone in Students Learning at a Private High School in Cambodia

Indonesian Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR), 2024

The study explores the smartphone's role in hindering and helping high school students learn English at a private school in Cambodia. The study investigates a group of students' perceptions of the effects of smartphones on communication, engagement, performance, and self-efficacy. It also looked into the general impacts of smartphones on students' language learning. Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, an online link to the questionnaire using Google Forms was electronically shared with 200 students in a population of 515. One hundred forty-six participants completed the questionnaire. Descriptive statistics analyses, such as percentage, mean, and standard deviation, were performed for the study. The results from the investigation showed that smartphones positively impacted students' language learning overall. The researcher also discovered a reported association between smartphone and self-efficacy, communication, engagement, and student academic performance. Therefore, classroom teachers, educators, and policymakers need to continue exploring the potential of smartphones in enhancing language learning experience and outcomes and motivating students as they go through different experiences in English language learning. Based on the student participants' quantitative and narrative responses, the study recommends careful use of smartphones in the classroom and strict measures to reduce negative consequences.

Using Mobile Devices for Educational Purposes in Compulsory Secondary Education to Improve Student’s Learning Achievements

Sustainability, 2020

The number of mobiles surpassed the population of the planet in 2018. Without a doubt, they have become the tool of reference in our social life, as well as in our work and leisure, but in educational centers, they continue to be used inefficiently or are declared off limits to some classrooms. This study aims to establish the relationship that the use of mobile phones in secondary education schools may have in regard to the student’s academic performance. For this purpose, we will carry out a secondary exploitation of the Ministry of Education database for 2017 with the data of 1,887,027 students from 7381 compulsory secondary education schools in Spain. As a method of analysis, a multilevel correlation study is carried out. The results show a strong correlation between centers and territories that allow the usage of mobile devices in education and academic performance. Impact of Smartphones Usage on the Learning Behaviour and Academic Performance of Students: Empirical Evidence from Pakistan

International Journal of Academic Research in Business and Social Sciences, 2021

Students are the main users and sensitive to the smartphone and it affects the general population because of their persuasiveness. Several results show that there is a positive correlation between smartphone usage and academic performance since they lead to the behaviours that affect student’s careers and learning behaviour, e.g. addictedness, excess screen usage. However, these studies only focus on smartphone usage behaviour which only provides some usage patterns. We propose to fulfil the gap by measuring smartphone usage and academic performance by combining them both to keep track of users. We analyse this study by study on 150 students studying in Islamabad enrolled in different departments. They all used Smartphones in their daily life routine to learn academic content and lectures. By analysing the results, we provide a quantitative estimate of positive and negative results and correlations. Our result shows the positive correlation and impact of smartphone usage on academic performance.

The Relationship Between Smartphone Use and Academic Performance in a Sample of Tertiary Students in Singapore: A Cross-Sectional Study

i-manager's Journal of Educational Technology, 2018

The use of smartphone for socialising and learning has become a norm among students in Singapore. Educational institutions are creating lessons and applications for use on mobile platforms. However, the effectiveness of smartphones for learning has not been well studied in Singapore. This study was conducted to understand the association between smartphone use for learning activities and academic performance (measured by cumulative GPA) in a sample of tertiary students in Singapore. A questionnaire that contained questions concerning demographic data and use of smartphone for learning was used for data collection (n=619). Results showed that there is a significant association between smartphone use for learning activities and student's cumulative Grade Point Average (cGPA) (p< 0.05). Results also indicated that female students used the smartphones more frequently for learning compared to male students and international students made more frequent use of smartphones for learning compared to local students. Students' level of satisfaction with using smartphone for learning activities was also surveyed. In conclusion, this study showed that students who used smartphones for learning had higher academic performance (cGPA). Variables such as gender and nationality of students played a role in smartphone use for learning and impacted on students' cGPA.
