Review of Mobile Ad Hoc Network Protocols
Mobile Ad-hoc Network is one of the types of Wireless Ad-Hoc Networks which has distinguished characteristics. It is a self-configuring, decentralized and infrastructure less wireless network where mobile nodes in such a network communicate with each other through wireless links. Since the nodes can move around, routing in such a setup is always a challenge. To overcome this challenge of routing as a prerequisite to network communication, the Mobile Ad hoc Networking (MANET) routing protocols must establish an efficient route between network nodes. It should also be able to adjust efficiently to the frequently varying topology of moving nodes. In this paper, the main characteristics and the research challenge of routing in MANET, which may be considered in designing various routing protocols were discussed. Various MANET protocols surveyed and their classification; proactive, reactive and hybrid discussed. The review also present the strength and weaknesses of some specific protocols, discuss the various extensions made to the major protocols by researchers in this field and itemized out areas of future research work.
A REVIEW PAPER ON APPLICATION AND CHALLENGES OF MOBILE AD HOC NETWORK
This paper has a center of attention on the study of Ad Hoc network its protocols and different types of networks in detail as we know this is an up and coming field which places lot of contribution in networking. In the past few years we have seen a rapid expansion in the field of mobile computing due to the proliferation of inexpensive widely available wireless devices a mobile ad hoc network or MANET consists of mobile wireless nodes in which the communication between nodes is carried out without any centralized control. MANET is a self organized and self configurable network where the mobile nodes move arbitrarily. The mobile nodes can receive and forward packets as a router. In this paper provides insight into the potential applications of ad hoc networks and discusses the technological challenges that protocol designers and network developers are faced with. A State-of-The-Art of Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks (MANET)

Mobile Ad Hoc network (MANET) is a collection of two or more devices, nodes or terminals with wireless communication and networking ability that can communicate with each other without the assistance of any centralized administrator, centralized control or established infrastructure. It's called infrastructureless. A network can be formed dynamically by the wireless nodes to exchange information without using any fixed existing network infrastructure. Each node plays a role of router in the MANET as it must forward the traffic to other nodes. In this paper, discuss in details the main characteristics, applications, advantages, disadvantages and challenges of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. Several routing protocols have recently been proposed for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks, In order to facilitate communication within the network, a routing protocol is used to discover route between nodes. On other hand, also this paper provides a survey of the type of routing protocols. These protocols can be classified into three main categories: proactive(Table-Driven), Reactive (On-Demand),and Hybrid Routing Protocols.

Mobile Ad-hoc networks (MANET) are usually defined as a set of wireless mobile nodes dynamically self organizing a temporary network without any central administration or existing infrastructure. This is mainly due to the mobility of the nodes .Much of this work is targeted to increase the network performance on the network layer and finding a feasible route from a source to a destination without considering current network traffic or application requirements. Due to their decentralized, self-configuring and dynamic nature, MANETs offers several advantages and disadvantages. In this paper we present an overview of (MANET) by presenting their characteristics, functionality, challenging applications and routing protocols.

Comparative Evaluation of Mobile Ad Hoc Network (Manet) Protocols Routing

Wireless Ad Hoc networks are relatively new and are gaining ground in research due to promises they offer. Wireless Ad hoc networks do not require predefined configuration and have no fixed infrastructure. They are self-organizing and self-configuring networks. Several protocols have been developed that vary in the performance and complexity. Most routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks, such as: Ad Hoc On Demand Distance Vector Protocol (AODV), Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) are designed without explicity considering quality of service of the generated route. These routing protocols provide the capability for establishing minimum hop paths between nodes on a best effort basis regardless of QoS. In our work, we analyze the performance of these protocols and we present an efficient scheme for support QoS over MANET named Hierarchical Dynamic Source Routing protocol (HDSR). The performance aspects we study are fraction of routing overhead, end-to-end delay and throughput. It was shown via computer simulations that (HDSR) improves these performance aspects in wireless mobile ad hoc networks compare to other protocols.
Survey on Mobile Ad-Hoc Network Protocol
Emerging ubiquitous computing needs "anytime and anywhere" network connections. Mobile ad hoc networks are well suited for this application area because they are self-organizing networks without depending on any network infrastructure. Due to the improved flexibility and reduced cost of mobile ad hoc networks, they promise to play an important role in future mobile applications. An important and essential issue for mobile ad hoc networks is routing protocol design. Because of the dynamic network features, it is a major technical challenge. During the last years, active research work resulted in a variety of proposals. A large number of protocols, each with a particular property and often optimized for a specific application area, have been designed. They follow different design principles and exhibit substantial variations in performance depending on network size or node mobility patterns. This paper presents a state-of-the-art review and a comparison for typical representatives of routing protocols designed for mobile ad hoc networks. The paper aims at providing criteria according to which the plethora of protocols can be classified. Because it is difficult to compare all protocols along the same criteria, which some protocols may have others not, we first identify major protocol classes and then provide an in depth comparison of related protocols of the same category. Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a wireless network and is a collection of independent mobile nodes which dynamically forms a temporary network. Nodes of a MANET move without any fixed infrastructure and do not have a centralized administration mechanism. These nodes know the self-aware architecture of MANET and can move in any direction, which render its topology. The wireless connections in this system are highly sensitive and can go down because of limited energy, portability of nodes, obstructions and less foundation. Consequently, routing in MANET is the most challenging issue due to the dynamic topology of ad hoc networks. There are different routing protocols proposed for MANETs which makes it quite difficult to determine which protocol is suitable for different network conditions as proposed by their Quality of service offerings. This paper provides an overview of different routing protocols proposed in literature and also provides a comparison between them Due to moving element nature Mobile Ad-hoc wireless networks are used in Military scenarios, Sensor Networks, Rescue operations etc.

Increased communication in today's life increased the needs of technological communication. With some restriction of wired communication wireless technology comes into the picture. The emphasis in this paper is concentrated on Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks. They can be set up anywhere without any need for external infrastructure (like wires or base stations). This can be a standard Wi-Fi connection, or another medium, such as a cellular or satellite transmission [1].So we can say that A "mobile ad hoc network" (MANET) is an autonomous collection of mobile users that communicate over relatively bandwidth constrained wireless links [2]. This paper includes working of some Proactive, Reactive and Hybrid protocols that make communication possible it also includes its advantages, limitations and applications of MANET. Protocols discussed in this paper are DSR, AODV, TORA, FSR, ZRP, WPR etc.
