Burnout among nurses: Examining psychosocial work environment causes

Background:Medical personnel, and especially staff working in hospitals such as doctors and nurses are exposed to a number of important psychosocial risk factors as a consequence of the type of work. The consequence can be the occurrence of job burnout among nurses. the researchers wanted to analyze work psychosocial support in an effort to control burnout in health workers at Semen Gresik Hospital.Design and methods:This research is an analytical observational quantitative research. The research was conducted by interviewing respondents regarding the independent variables and the dependent variable without giving any treatment. This research is included in the analytical research design with the aim of analyzing the relationship between variables This research is analyzed using Semi Equation Model (SEM) by calculating outer model, inner model, and the goodness of fit of the model.Results:The results of testing the first hypothesis give the result that there is a significant positive effect of Psychosocial Work Environment on Burnout with a T-Statistic value (59.577) >1.96 and p-value (0.000) <0.05 so it can be stated that there is a significant positive influence of Psychosocial Work Environment on Burnout. This means that hypothesis 1 can be supported.Conclusions:The most influenced factor from psychosocial work environment are job demand as well as conflict and offensive behavior. Because nurses have several workload especially during the pandemic, they have the obligation to do administrative, preventive, and curative action in the meantime.

Background: Burnout, a phenomenon that is of interest for both individuals and organizations, is characterized by decreasing energy, power and resources in the presence of excessive demands. Nurses are more prone to develop burnout due to both the emotional nature of their jobs as well as patients' demand. The present study was aimed to assess burnout among nurses working in the Iranian hospital of Ali-ebn Abitaleb Rafsanjan, Iran 2010 . Material and Methods: in this descriptive study, 134 nurses (working in Med-Surge, ER, ICU, CCU, and Neurology units) were randomly recruited. The data were collected in two sections. Demographic variables including age, sex, diet, work experience, marital and employment status and academic degree were asked in the first section. Maslach burnout tool was applied for measuring burnout in nurses, in the second section. Results: Most nurses (63%) were women and married (74.8%). Mean age of nurses was 33.84 ± 8.7 years with a minimum of 24 and maximum of 53 years. Mean score of burnout was 78.43 ± 15 with a minimum of 26 and maximum of 132. There was a significant association, between gender and degree of burnout (p <0.05). Higher score of burnout was reported among those with shorter duration of working in their job (0-5 years) comparing to nurses with a longer duration (more than 20 years) of working in their job (p <0.05). Conclusions: Our findings showed that burnout affected nurses significantly. Therefore , it seems that this problem must be studied and related factors should be recognized, in order to reduce burnout among nurses. Many aspects of nurse's job should be noticed and appropriate intervention should be conducted. These aspects include their salary, job security, their lesure and their dayly working hours.
The relationship between Antecedents (Job Stressors) and Burnout in Iranian Nurses

Burnout is one of the effective factors in reducing staff performance quality. Stress and burnout lead to quitting the job in the nursing profession to a great extent. Considering the importance of the nurses' physical and mental health and the role of burnout in nursing services quality, the present research aimed to investigate the relationship between the antecedents and burnout among the staff nurses working in hospitals of Shiraz. The research population included 2016 nurses working in the hospitals of Shiraz, of whom 322 were selected through stratified random sampling. The study data were collected using burnout 1 and NBS 2 questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean, variance) as well as inferential statistics (correlation coefficient, variance analysis). The results showed that antecedents (responsibility, work load, lack of community, and supervision) had a significant direct relationship with burnout. Therefore, antecedents cause stress and tension in the work environment and finally cause burnout in nurses.
The etiology of burnout syndrome and the levels of stress among nurses

Introduction: Burnout syndrome refers to emotional exhaustion and diminished personal performance as a result of the individual"s dwindling energy resources and adaptation power due to chronic job stresses. The present study was performed to examine the effect of different etiologies of this syndrome and the stress levels of nurses working in hospitals affiliated with Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Census sampling was performed on all 212 nurses working in the hospitals of Jahrom University of Medical Sciences (Motahhari and Peymanieh) in winter 2012 and spring 2013. The data collection instrument included two checklists for investigating the causes of burnout syndrome and Cohen"s perceived stress scale. The data were analyzed with the SPSS software, using descriptive statistical methods, regression, and Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients. Results: According to the nurses, management, social, and professions" domains, respectively, were the most important causes of burnout syndrome. Most nurses (76.41%) suffered medium levels of stress. A statistically significant relationship was observed between the burnout degree and stress levels (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results showed that, according to the nurses, different factors had different effects on the incidence of job burnout syndrome; therefore, the incidence rate of this syndrome should be reduced by taking appropriate measures to ease different stresses.

Introduction The study (Burnout among nursing professionals of Jammu & Kashmir-cross sectional survey) was conducted to generate findings that burnout is affecting patients and staff and inculcate a realisation for action to alter unhealthy situations through interventions to mitigate work stress. Aim The study was conducted with an aim to know that burnout levels in nursing professionals working at secondary and tertiary levels in Jammu and Kashmir. Methods A Quantitative Cross sectional survey was used to study burnout among nursing professionals of Jammu Kashmir by non-probability; a convenient sampling technique was used to collect data from nursing professionals who fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Data was collected via online google forms analysed via SPSS. Results The results of the study revealed that 61.43% (129) were female and 38.57% (81) were males. It also represented that a maximum 82.86% (174) were in the age group of (21-30) years, followed by 17.71% (33) in the age group of 31-50 and just 1.43% (03) in the age group of 41-50 years. The study also showed that a maximum 91.43% (192) were having 1-10 years of working experience followed by 7.15% (15) were having (11-20) years of working experience followed by just 1.43% (3) who were having 21-30 years of working experience. The study also represented that majority of the study subjects 75.71% (159) were having BSc Nursing as their educational qualification, followed by 18.58% (39) having MSc Nursing as educational qualification, followed by just 5.71% (12) having Diploma in General Nursing and midwifery. The study also depicted that the majority of the study subjects were suffering from burnout in the secondary and tertiary health care institutions of Jammu and Kashmir. The study revealed that 43.34% (91) were having high level burnout, followed by 30% (63) having moderate level burnout and just 26.66% (56) were having low level burnout in the domain of depressive and anxiety syndromes. The table also depicted that the majority 75.24% (158) were having high level burnout, followed by 13.80% (29) having low level burnout and just 10.96% (23) were having moderate level burnout in the subsection of burnout inventory named as depersonalisation. The study also revealed that maximum 45.72% (96) had low personal achievement (satisfaction) while as 34.28% (42) were having low burnout level and thus were having good personal achievement or satisfaction with job while as 20% (42) were having moderate level burnout in the domain of personal achievement subscale. The study has shown that there is significant association between burnout levels (depressive anxiety syndrome) with selected demographic variables [age (p=0.009), years of working experience (p=0.01), and educational qualification (p=0.00)]. The study has shown that there is significant association between burnout levels (personal achievement) with selected demographic variables [years of working experience (p=0.005), and educational qualification (p=0.01)]. Conclusion Burnout in nursing professionals leads to imbalance in life and care of people affecting both nursing professionals and patients. This leads to decreased performance and increased stress. Thus nursing leaders and policy makers should take nursing friendly decisions and should involve them to overcome burnout in order to improve their benefit, professionalism and overall work environment.

These impacts can be both economically and also the negatives effects on the quality of patient care. The purpose of this thesis is to provide evidence based information about prevention of burnout among nurses. This thesis aimed to review what kinds of interventions are needed to be done by nurses and organizations to prevent this phenomenon among nurses in order to reduce the prevalence of this syndrome among health care professionals and its consequences. The research method that was used in this thesis is literature review. Data were collected from academic nursing data bases including CINAHL (EBSCO), ProQuest, PubMed Central and ScienceDirect. After using thesis search words in advance search machine of these databases considering some inclusion and exclusion criteria, 44 articles were achieved. 11 out of these 44 articles were chosen to be reviewed in this thesis based on their title, abstract and full text. Collected data were analysed using inductive content analysis method. The findings were categorized in four major themes considering the party that should implement those measures for preventing burnout in nurses. These parties consist of workplace, nurses as a community in the ward, and nurses as individuals. Various methods have been found to be efficient in preventing this phenomenon among nurses. Since in collecting the data for this thesis there was no locational limitation, the data that were used, were from different parts of the world with different working conditions, cultures, and resources. The authors recommend further researches to evaluate the efficiency of suggested methods among Finnish nurses.

Introduction: The work of nurses is human. They help people in protection against diseases. Nurses are the largest group of health workers and all problems that appear in the health system are first recognized among them. Burnout syndrome appears among nurses very frequently. We present the leading factors for burnout among nurses in RMC „Dr Safet Mujic“ in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.Methods: It is a cross sectional descriptive study. We used an anonymous questionnaire with 20 questions. Our sample was random with 30% of all nurses which were working in this Medical Center in January-February 2012.Results: In our study 77.9% nurses work in the hospital. 52% have over 16 years of work experience. 34.6% of examinees are satisfi ed with interpersonal relationships, 31.7 % are satisfi ed with relationships with the superior.
