The Dynamics of Corruption Artificial Society Approach
2015
Corruption has been an important priority to gain the better and more efficient economical governmental system. This proposition came from the statistical evidence of perception on corruption in Indonesia recently and the importance to exacerbate the governmental reform strategies in Indonesia. The paper defines corruption as state capture and administrative corruption to gain the quintessence of the corruption cases modeled in dynamical computational social system. The result of experiments through simulation is prepared to construct understanding of structural properties of the corruption. The result is understanding and conclusions seeing corruption as an interdisciplinary problem and should be handled in holistic perspectives.
Theorizing Corruption through Agent-Based Modeling
Proceedings of the 9th Joint Conference on Information Sciences (JCIS), 2006
The aim of this paper is to gain the broad explanation of corruption using simple computational model. We elaborated further the model of corruption described previously in , with some additions in model's properties. We performed hundreds of experiments computationally using Swarm and constructed the explanation of corruption based upon these results. We show that corruption should be understood as complex social-phenomena, which relates not only with economical aspect, but also with many other social and anthropological aspects.
Money-scape: A generic agent-based model of corruption
Departmental Working Papers, 2003
There has been a lot of works on corruption cases. We must think that corruption is a cultural aspect in a social life. We cannot separate the corruption with the cultural system where the corruption raised. Indonesia has been recorded to be one of the countries of the worst economic and political system on corruption case. The paper is introducing the usage of agent based simulation for analyzing the corruption specifically in Indonesia as the biggest corruption level. The model showed is named money-scape, inspiring by the way of corrupt bureaucracy in Indonesia. The paper showed how the situation taken by the revolutionary strategies combating corruption and some peaceful and smart strategies generically.

Modeling Influence on Petty Corruption Attitudes
2018
Corruption is an influential and widespread problem. One part of it is so-called petty corruption, related to large-scale bribe giving by ordinary citizens trying to influence the works of public administration or public services. As it is with all means of corruption, petty corruption is related to the level of democracy (or administration efficiency) in a society. The developed model captures some of the factors related to corruptive behavior, as well as people’s attitude towards petty corruption. It has four basic elements: user’s perception of corruption in the society of interest, the influence of social interactions, the influence of penalizing mechanism, and influence of campaigns against petty corruption. The model is agentbased, developed in NetLogo, with a lot of random settings that provide a wider scope of responses. Interactions of different settings for variables of elements provide insight into the influence of each element on attitude towards petty corruption, as wel...

Who controls the controller? A dynamical model of corruption
Journal of Mathematical Sociology, 2017
The aim of this article is to give at least a partial answer to the question made in the title. Several works analyze the evolution of the corruption in different societies. Most of such papers show the necessity of several controls displayed by a central authority to deter the expansion of the corruption. However there is not much literature that addresses the issue of who controls the controller. This article aims to approach an answer to this question. Indeed, as it is well known, in democratic societies an important role should be played by citizens. We show that politically active citizens can prevent the spread of corruption. More precisely, we introduce a game between government and officials where both can choose between a corrupt or honest behavior. Citizens have a political influence that results in the prospects of a corrupt and a non-corrupt government be re-elected or not. This results in an index of intolerance to corruption. We build an evolutionary version of the game by means of the replicator dynamics and we analyze and fully characterize the possible trajectories of the system according to the index of intolerance to corruption and other relevant quantities of the model.

Corruption is a global menace that undermines the foundations of societies, including the rule of law, fairness, human rights, democracy, and economic growth. This research aims to comprehensively understand the dynamics of corruption and explore strategies for its prevention and control. Specifically, it focuses on the reintegration of individuals who have recovered from corrupt practices back into the population. By evaluating the effectiveness of rehabilitation programs, the potential for relapse, and the influence of societal support systems, the study seeks to determine whether the reintegration of formerly corrupt individuals contributes to a reduction in corruption or reintroduces corrupt practices. The research employs mathematical models and analyses to investigate the transmission of corruption within the population. It examines the stability properties of uncontrolled corruption models and explores the effectiveness of different combinations of corruption prevention measures. By studying these factors, the research aims to gain insights into the underlying dynamics of corruption and identify strategies that can effectively mitigate its prevalence. The findings of this research will contribute to a deeper understanding of corruption dynamics and provide valuable insights for designing intervention programs. By informing policies and strategies, this research aims to combat corruption and foster a society that upholds integrity and ethical practices. The goal is to create a framework that supports the eradication of corruption and the promotion of transparency and accountability in all aspects of society.
