This study was focused on cumulonimbus (Cb) cloud prediction based on Integrated Forecast System (IFS) European Medium-Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) model in the Flight Information Region (FIRs) Jakarta and Ujung Pandang. The Cb cloud prediction was calculated using convective cloud cover (CC) of the precipitation product. The model predictability was examined through categorical verification. The Cb cloud observation was based on brightness temperature (BT) IR1 and brightness temperature difference (BTD) IR1-IR2. The results showed that CC 50%' predictor was the best predictor to estimate the Cb cloud. The study in the period other than 2019 is suggested for the next research because Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is extreme that may affect the Cb cloud growth in the study area.

This works reports the quantification and forecasting of Cumulonimbus (Cb) clouds direction, nebulosity and occurrence with auto regression using 2018-2020 dataset from Yaoundé –Nsimalen of Cameroon. Data collected for October 2018-2020 consisted of 2232 hourly observations. Codes were written to automatically align, multi-find and replace data points in excel to facilitate treating big datasets. The approach included quantification of direction generating time series from data and determination of model orders using the correlogram. The coefficients of the SARIMA model were determined using Yule-Walker equations in matrix form, the Augmented Dickey Fuller test (ADF) was used to check for stationarity assumption, Portmanteau test to check for white noise in residuals and Shapiro-Wilk test to check normality assumptions. After writing several algorithms to test different models, an Autoregressive Neural Network (ANN) was fitted and used to predict the parameters over window of 2 week...
Forecasting Future Atmospheric Events using Machine Learning
International Journal of Innovative Technology and Exploring Engineering, 2019
Over the year’s thunderstorms have been one of the major causes of death and one of the most catastrophic natural calamities in the country and the most challenging part is the prediction of thunderstorm beforehand, because of the random nature of our atmosphere. Through this research paper the attempt was made to do analyze the atmospheric stability indices (atmospheric instability causes thunderstorms) using INSAT-3D sounder data to predict thunderstorms by predicting their values using machine learning approach. By setting the indices possess a threshold value and also there is predictability in the data which can be used to predict their future values. The tephigram is used by meteorologist, scientist, weather observer, pilots to solve atmospheric temperature and humidity problems using simple graphical techniques. We can avoid extensive calculation for the mathematical relationships to generate diagram to predict the events. Meteorologists use the thermodynamic diagram daily to...
Detailed Survey Of Weather Prediction Using Machine Learning Algorithms
International Journal of Creative Research Thoughts (IJCRT), 2023
Perfect weather predictions are needed for a plethora of activities and it was one of the main challenging problems the entire world faced because of its multiple dimensions and non-linear trends. Weather depends on multiple climatic conditions like temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind flow speed and direction, cloud height and density, and rainfall. The most common phrases/keywords in weather prediction related articles were 'wind', 'precipitation', 'climate change', 'wind forecasting' and 'ensemble prediction'. The most common countries in which surveys were done are China, USA, Australia, India and Germany. Extreme meteorological events are often related to the occurrence of weather fronts.
Preferred type of cloud in the genesis of severe thunderstorms — A soft computing approach
Atmospheric Research, 2008
The present paper attempts to identify the type of low level clouds preferred for the genesis of severe thunderstorms over Kolkata (22° 32′, 88° 20′) during the transition period of pre-monsoon season (April–May). Soft computing technique in the form of Rough Set Theory is adopted for recognizing the pattern of low level clouds. Different possible types of clouds are explored with ten years data in the present study for the occurrence of severe thunderstorms over Kolkata confined within the northeastern part of India (20° N to 24 ° N latitude, 85 ° E to 93 ° E longitude). The results show that for the occurrence of severe thunderstorms over Kolkata the preferred type of low level cloud is cumulonimbus and the transition from stratocumulus to cumulonimbus is a significant conversion of cloud type. The result further reveals that the formation of cumulonimbus cloud at 06 GMT is an extremely favorable condition for the genesis of the severe thunderstorms over Kolkata during the pre-monsoon season.
Evaluating the Performance of Machine Learning Algorithms for Predicting Meteorological Parameters
IJISCS (International Journal of Information System and Computer Science)
Artificial learning techniques are currently used for weather and climate forecasting, etc. In this paper, we will evaluate three algorithms for predicting meteorological parameters based on the humidity parameter. Our dataset was taken from Mbujimayi airport in the DRC. So, having the real-world data at our disposal, we used these Machine Learning tools to interpret and understand what happened by training the three models separately, and draw the conclusion as to which was the best model. Then, we used the three models to make some predictions about what our environment will be like tomorrow, and to draw conclusions and make decisions about whether or not our climate is already facing climate change. Three models are used: Decision tree, k-nearest neighbor and neural network, the analysis reveals that of the three models tested, the decision tree scored 81.8% after training with an average prediction of 71.5%, in second place we have the K-nearest neighbor with a score of 70% afte...
Prediction and Classification of Weather Using Machine Learning
International Journal for Research in Applied Science & Engineering Technology (IJRASET), 2022
To predict something we need some background study to understand the pattern. On earth, every phase of human life is influenced by nature. As we cannot avoid the natural changes and conditions, we have chosen to minimize their effect on our lives. Therefore, to achieve this we need to know the weather conditions beforehand, to make things work according to the changes in the environment. Here comes the role of prediction. To carry out prediction, accurate classification of data is required. The main objective of this project is to design a weather prediction model. Agriculture is the field that is most influenced by the weather. So, we can extend our scope to provide regional guidelines to farmers depending upon the classification done. This paper explores the details of this project.
CLOUD BURST FORECAST USING EXPERT SYSTEMS
IRJET, 2022
Rainfall prediction is the one of the necessary strategies to predict the climatic prerequisites in any country. This paper proposes a rainfall prediction mannequin the usage of Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) for Indian dataset. The enter statistics is having a couple of meteorological parameters and to predict the rainfall in extra precise. The Mean Square Error (MSE), accuracy, correlation are the parameters used to validate the proposed model. From the results, the proposed computing device mastering mannequin gives higher outcomes than the different algorithms in the literature.

Cloudbursts, characterized by sudden and intense rainfall, pose significant risks including flash floods, landslides, and extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture. The "Cloudburst Prediction System" project aims to develop a robust system to forecast these extreme weather events using advanced technologies such as machine learning and IoT. The system integrates environmental sensors and data analytics to provide real-time monitoring and early warnings, enhancing disaster preparedness and mitigating potential damages. Key components include data collection from meteorological sources, preprocessing, feature extraction, and the deployment of machine learning models such as Random Forest, Support Vector Machines, and Neural Networks. These models are fine-tuned and evaluated to ensure high accuracy in predicting cloudburst occurrences. The project also explores the challenges of data quality, environmental variability, and integration with external data sources. The ultimate goal is to improve early warning systems, reduce loss of life and property, and support effective disaster response and community resilience.
