Narco-Terrorism Threat Assessment and Policy Analysis (original) (raw)

The Narco Nexus of Terrorism

Starting with the last quarter of the 20th century we live awakens to some global illegal enterprises that produce kinds of global threats for the world. ‘Narcoterrorism’ is one of these illegal enterprises that produce a kind of global threat as this form of terrorism establish a political environment that is fruitful for their illegal activities. Although it is very difficult to determine whether people involve terrorism in order to make these kinds of trade or in order to commit terrorism they use these kinds of trade as a kind of financial source and it is obvious that eventually these kinds of activities feed and support both terrorism and narcotic trade. Thus, they provide a global threat for the whole world. In this sense, Narcoterrorism needs proper risk assessment and risk management studies. In this study, I tried to make risk assessment on Narco nexus of terrorism with limited data through using common methodology that is taught us in the Global Risk Assessment course by Prof. Leslie W. Kennedy. To me, narcoterrorism provides a long-running structure for some terrorist organization that makes them strong in terms of financial sources and eventually makes difficult to prevent and resolve terrorism and keeps global threats alive in the world. On the other hand ongoing drug trafficking by terrorist organizations also makes this transportation durable and threats all world population particularly world youth. From this point of view, I believe that awareness on Narcoterrorism might contribute in the context of preparedness to emerging threats of the world through below-mentioned two ways. First by creating a focus on data producing and data collecting process, and second by creating an atmosphere that may result a global governmental response to the problem by addressing a need for establishing an agency to cope with the Narco nexus of terrorism.

Narco-Terrorism: A Risk Assesment of Global Terrorist Linkages to the International Drug Trade

Forthcoming

Global security analysts have exhaustively examined the nexus between terrorist networks and the international trade in drugs. This article revisits global narco-terrorism and its theories and empirically used various narco-terror groups in different regions to provide a global risk assessment and linkages of these groups to the international drug trade. The results buttressed the notion that linkages and cooperation of terrorist and organized criminal groups facilitated effective operations that is continually inflicting havoc and confusion in an unrestricted evolutionary global framework, since these groups have made logistical inroads through exploitation of growing global inequalities, deepened poverty, deteriorating standards of living, and the debt challenges facing the developing world. Following a global risk assessment, the theoretical argument proposes the adoption of a macro-economic approach in the framework of a global risk management in the evaluation, monitoring and implementation of policy to effectively combat the challenges of global narco-terrorism.

Narcoterrorism in Mexico: A Strategic and Multidimensional Analysis of an Evolving Phenomenon

Narcoterrorism in Mexico: A Strategic and Multidimensional Analysis of an Evolving Phenomenon., 2024

Narcoterrorism in Mexico has become one of the most complex, persistent, and challenging issues for national security and social development. This phenomenon, which combines elements of drug trafficking with terrorist tactics, represents a threat that has evolved and adapted over the decades, challenging the government's ability to maintain order and stability in certain regions. It is characterized mainly by the systematic use of extreme violence, intimidation, kidnapping, murder, and large-scale corruption by drug cartels, who seek to secure their illicit operations, expand their territorial control, and create an atmosphere of fear that allows them to operate with relative impunity. These criminal organizations have built networks of power and influence that not only encompass the illegal drug trade but also arms trafficking, extortion, fuel theft, and money laundering, creating an environment favorable for the rise and strengthening of power structures parallel to the state.
